Start with a timetable. You will need to have a timetable for the schedule of the bus or train line you want to take. You can obtain timetables by accessing the websites or information numbers listed at the end of this brochure for the appropriate carrier. Or you can pick up timetables at major stations or information centers. Here is just a partial list: NJ TRANSIT - CAMDEN/WALTER RAND TRANSPORTATION CENTER, TRENTON STATION, ATLANTIC CITY BUS AND RAIL STATIONS PATCO - ALL STATIONS SEPTA - INFORMATION CENTER AT 1234 MARKET STREET, MARKET EAST STATION, SUBURBAN STATION, 30TH STREET STATION AMTRAK - 30TH STREET STATION You can also get NJ TRANSIT southern New Jersey bus timetables and maps, PATCO and Cape May Seashore Lines timetables and select NJ TRANSIT, SEPTA, and Amtrak rail timetables at many public locations and from the Regional Travel Information Center at: 2002D Lincoln Drive West • Marlton, NJ 08053-1530 PHONE (856) 596-8228 • FAX (856) 983-0388 WEB SITE www.transportationchoices.com E-MAIL [email protected] 1 Note: Information contained in this guide is subject to change. Always consult with the particular carrier. Reading a timetable–easy as 1-2-3! Choose your direction of travel and look at 1 the section of the schedule for either weekdays (Monday thru Friday) or weekends (Saturday, Sunday and holidays). Find the location you are starting from 2 on the timetable. On bus timetables, the “time points” listed represent the major stops. Buses also stop at locations along the route that are between the time points. On train timetables, every station is listed, but trains will only stop at a station when a time is listed. If the space is blank, that particular train will not make that station stop. Choose the start time of your trip. On NJ 3 TRANSIT bus, River LINESM and PATCO timetables, read down. On NJ TRANSIT, SEPTA and Amtrak train timetables, read across. Continue to your destination. The trip’s arrival time will be noted. Be sure to read any special symbols or footnotes! They give important information about your bus route or train line. Peak-hour trains are listed in the shaded areas of NJ TRANSIT and SEPTA timetables. Off-peak tickets are not valid on these trains. SAVE with TransitChek ® TransitChek® gives employees a discount on transportation fares by enabling employers to offer a non-taxable fringe benefit. Special TransitChek® vouchers can be used like cash towards fares on NJ TRANSIT, PATCO, SEPTA, and Amtrak, as well as other transportation modes including vanpools. For more information, call 1-800-355-5000, or visit www.gettransitchek.org. 2 Finding Transit Service in your community The following is a list of southern New Jersey communities along with available bus routes and/or rail service. Bus Driver Fatigue and Stress Issues Study Final Report November 18, 1999 I INTRODUCTION Arrowhead Space and Telecommunications, Inc. conducted a research project to identify unique aspects of operations within the motorcoach industry which may produce bus driver fatigue and stress. Funding for and oversight of the study was provided by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Office of Motor Carriers (OMC). The purpose of this study is to (1) identify from direct interaction with motorcoach owners, safety directors, operations managers, and drivers those fatigue-inducing stresses which they believe are unique to the motorcoach industry; (2) evaluate the relative influence of these stresses on bus driver fatigue; (3) provide relevant feedback to the FHWA/OMC for its use in future decisions which will affect the motorcoach industry; and (4) develop an outreach video to help motorcoach drivers understand the effects of fatigue, the stresses that induce it, and means to reduce it.
