Position Title: for Mission Advocacy, Racial Justice, and Reconciliation

Institutional and Missiological Summary:

The Episcopal of Connecticut, known as the Episcopal in Connecticut (ECCT) is a non- profit Christian religious organization devoted to participating in God’s mission. ECCT provides oversight and administrative support for over 150 Episcopal parishes on behalf of the close to 60,000 Episcopalians living in the state. ECCT is one of over 110 that collectively form The Episcopal Church, a U.S.-based member church of the world-wide Anglican Communion.

The Episcopal Church in Connecticut affirms that the mission of God is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ (Book of Common Prayer, page 855). Left to our own desires and devices, humanity will seek our own will instead of the will of God, thus distorting our relationship with God, with other people and with all creation. (Book of Common Prayer, page 850). God in , however, embodies another way: the way of love that leads to justice, wholeness and right-relationship with God, with other people, and with the goodness of creation. Through baptism we become followers of Jesus (disciples) and are sent as apostles to participate in God’s mission of restoration and reconciliation in the world. Because we believe that each and every person is created in the image of God and equally deserving of God’s abundant love, the Episcopal Church in Connecticut is committed to dismantling systemic racism, white supremacy and anti-Black bias as participation in God’s mission. Relatedly we are called to: care for the goodness of God’s creation; overcome income inequality in Connecticut and its injurious effects on education, housing, and access to health care; to prevent gun violence; to limit the expansion of casino gambling in Connecticut, and to welcome refugees and immigrants in our communities.
