Although their ascendency points towards European ancestors, and although non-American heroes have been sharing their characteristics for a long time, among them Obelix, Diabolik and many manga characters, the cape and costume genre remains firmly grounded in the United States. It is thus unsurprising that, with a brief exception during the Second World War, super hero narratives should have taken place mostly in the United States (although Metropolis, Superman’s headquarter, was notoriously based on Toronto) or in outer space. -

Praktični dio bavi se analizom stripa „Deadly sins and four other things.“ i metodologijom njegove izrade. -

A Master’s Paper for the M.S. in L.S. degree. April, 2003. 64 pages. Advisor: Barbara B. Moran. This study examined popular American action/adventure comic books from the year 2002, comparing the portrayal of men and women. Four categories of action/adventure comics were defined and the five best-selling titles in each category were identified. Six issues of each title were analyzed for textual and visual stereotyping. Women continue to be in the minority. As a result, women are less likely to be main characters, the rescuer or the person in charge. Women are also objectified visually by depicting them with large breasts, tiny waists, revealing outfits and uncomfortable poses. Headings: Comic books, strips, etc. Comic books, strips, etc.—Women.
