The development of promising talented drivers enjoys a long tradition at BMW Motorsport. In 2014 a new multi-level GT junior concept had been introduced: the BMW Motorsport Junior Programme. This realignment saw BMW Motorsport shift its development of young drivers back to the GT and touring car sector. In Formula racing the concept bore fruit for many years in Formula BMW and the Formula BMW Talent Cup and kick-started the racing career of many successful drivers like Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg and Nico Hülkenberg. The focus is on GT and touring car drivers who already have some racing experience. Outings in the BMW M235i Racing are an integral part of the comprehensive training programme. As well as race starts and test drives, intensive theory courses dealing with fitness and PR are planned, as are mental and simulator training. The potential candidates for this year’s class were put to the test in a shootout in the BMW M235i Racing in Dijon on 10th/11th March. Ricky Collard and Nico Menzel proved to be the most promising talents. They are the 2016 BMW Motorsport Juniors. A decision as to which of the young drivers showed the most potential is made by a jury of experts, headed by BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. BMW works driver Dirk Adorf will act as a mentor for the junior programme. At the end of the year, the most successful BMW Motorsport Junior of the season will be given the opportunity to continue his training for a second year in a higher racing category.

    15. STREET PREPARED CATEGORY 15. Street Prepared Cars running in Street Prepared Category must have been series produced with normal road touring equipment, capable of being licensed for normal road use in the United States, and normally sold and delivered through the- manufacturer’s retail sales outlets in the United States. Cars not specifically listed in Street, Street Touring, or Street Prepared Category classes in Appen dix A must have been produced in quantities of at least 1000 in a 12-month period to be eligible for Street Prepared Category. - A vehicle may compete in Street Prepared Category if the preparation of the vehicle has not exceeded the allowable modifications of Street Category, ex cept as specified below. However, the distinction between different years/ models used in Street Category does not apply in Street Prepared Category. Example: Porsche 911 models that are listed on the same line are considered the same. - Cars listed as eligible in and prepared to the current Club Racing Improved- Touring (IT) rules are permitted to compete in their respective Street Pre pared classes. Neither Street Prepared nor Improved Touring cars are per mitted to interchange preparation rules. Improved Touring cars may use tires which are eligible under the current IT rules even if they are not eligible in Street Prepared. Cars listed as eligible in and prepared to the current Club Racing American- Sedan (AS) rules are permitted to compete in Street Prepared class B (BSP).- Neither Street Prepared nor American Sedan cars are permitted to inter change preparation rules. American Sedan cars may use tires which are eli gible under current AS rules even if they are not eligible in Street Prepared.

The collection first started when French race car driver and art aficionado Hervé Poulain, together with Jochen Neerpasch, then BMW Motorsport Director, asked his artist friend Alexander Calder to design an automobile. The result was a BMW 3.0 CSL which in 1975 competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it quickly became the crowd’s favourite: the birth of the BMW Art Car Collection.
