Lower Göksu Archaeological Salvage Survey Project, the Second Season
Anatolica XLI, 2015 LOWER GÖKSU ARCHAEOLOGICAL SALVAGE SURVEY PROJECT, THE SECOND SEASON Tevfik Emre Şerifoğlu, Naoíse MacSweeney and Carlo Colantoni1 Abstract This article presents the results of the 2014 season of the Lower Göksu Archaeological Salvage Survey Project, in the Mersin Province of Southern Turkey. In 2014, the team continued the work begun in 2013, documenting as many archaeological sites and monuments in the Lower Göksu valley as possible before the scheduled construction of the Kayraktepe Dam. During the course of the two-week season, we were able to discover several new sites in the flood zone, as well as returning to several known sites to undertake more detailed work. This more detailed work included initial resistivity surveying and the documenting of illegal excavations. A short summary of the field season and a discussion about our methodology and the local settlement patterns are provided here. The 2014 season of this Bitlis Eren University project, which is conducted in collaboration with the University of Leicester, was funded by the Bitlis Eren University Scientific Research Projects Commission and the British Institute of Archaeology at Ankara. The survey project will continue for another season in 2015 and we will most probably start excavating one of the major sites in 2016 in collaboration with the Silifke Museum. Introduction The Lower Göksu Archaeological Salvage Survey Project (LGASSP) aims to docu- ment, as far as possible, the archaeological heritage of the Lower Göksu valley, which lies in the Mersin Province of Turkey (Şerifoğlu et al 2014). This section of the river valley is scheduled to be flooded with the construction of a hydroelectric dam at Kayraktepe in 2018, approximately 10km northwest of the town of Silifke (ancient Seleucia ad Calycadnum). -

The Bathing Complexes of Anazarbos and the Baths of Cilicia
ADALYA XVI, 2013 The Bathing Complexes of Anazarbos and the Baths of Cilicia Emanuele CASAGRANDE CICCI* Historical Background The city of Anazarbos is located 60 km. northeast of modern Adana, close to a hill that rises more than 220 m. above the Çukurova plain1. Below the plain there used to stand a Roman city covering an area of 101 hectares. If we agree with Gough2, we can recognize the an- cient settlement of Kyinda as Anazarbos, a site that was occupied since the 7th century B.C.3. Only very traces of the city from the pre-Roman times are preserved, but in recent years the site investigations have increased our knowledge about the Hellenistic development of Anazarbos4. The first certain archaeological elements related to the existence of the city are the autonomous bronze coins of the 1st century B.C. with the legend ANAZAPBEΩN5. In 19 B.C. Anazarbos was renamed Caesarea or Caesarea Anazarbus by the Romans due to the res- toration of Tarcondimotus II6, whose client kingdom included Anazarbos. The king provided control of the eastern Cilician hinterland of the Roman Empire from the end of the 1st century B.C. until the third-quarter of the 1st century A.D.7. The province of Cilicia, ruled by a legatus Augusti pro praetore, was definitely constituted by Vespasian in 72 A.D. Although the capital city became Tarsos, the emperor encouraged urbanization in many other urban centers, among which Anazarbos profited by expanding sensibly. During the 3rd century A.D. the status of the city was changed by Septimius Severus who gave it the title of metropolis, so joining Tarsus and Mopsuestia8. -

Irregular flow in the sprayer nozzles causes deterioration of the spray pattern and the volumetric distribution uniformity. Production errors in the orifice geometry of the hydraulic nozzle used in sprayers, wear due to long-term use, tearing or cracking of the nozzle body over time, faulty nozzle connections and sealing problems can be listed as structural factors disrupting spray angle and pattern. The aim of this research is to develop a measurement system and software that controls nozzle spray angle in real time in addition to the measurement and control systems currently used to perform flow controls in sprayer nozzles. The measurement system consists of light apparatus and camera. -
