The senior pupils from Blairgowrie High School who are going to Malawi on a work experience trip, were thrilled with the wonderful support they received at their recent Coffee Morning in Airlie Street Hall, where the amazing sum of £1,255 was raised. They give their sincere thanks to all those who supported it in so many ways and made it such a success. Their Bingo Tea is in the Town Hall on Thursday 20th March, eyes down 7.30pm.

ALYTH PLAYGROUP CITIZEN OF THE YEAR PRESENTATIONS The Volunteers Party on Sunday 3rd February in Alyth Town Hall is organised A HUGE thank you to the people of Alyth for helping the Playgroup raise over £2000 during the time the charity shop was open. annually by Alyth Community Council and includes the Citizen of the Year Recently we also benefited by a further £66 by sending all presentations (see page 4 for the Chairman’s report). the remaining clothing to be recycled by the Rag Bag company. It L-R: Councillor Dennis Melloy, ACC Chairman Jim Adam, Irene Robertson enabled us to remain open for December and January. Once Citizen of the Year, Mr Gray Royal Bank of Manager, Kyle Macintyre again you have proved how generous and supportive the Young Citizen of the Year, Councillor Ian Miller Alyth community is. By remaining open during the past couple of months we, the committee, have been able to review our position as part of the newly formed North East Playgroup Association. You may remember that we joined forces with the Blairgowrie playgroup and the playgroup in Rattray to share the cost of a Manager to oversee operations. This was prompted by the Care Commission’s plans to introduce managers within the playgroup staff structure by 2008/9. However, this has been of no benefit to our playgroup and recently we voted to disband and remain Alyth Playgroup with the intent to support ourselves over the next couple of months until the PlayStart option is offered instead of a playgroup. PlayStart is a council run play option for pre-school children. Parents will pay an amount each session their child attends. The PlayStart team will deliver the sessions in the current playgroup room in the Alyth Primary School Community wing. Our current playgroup staff may still be involved. So no great changes. Even when it comes to fund raising, ‘Oh’, I hear you sigh. We will still need your support during our coffee mornings and any other local activities that take place. This will ensure that our children of pre-school age receive the best learning opportunities before starting nursery. We thank you all in advance and look forward to seeing all at the coffee mornings. If you have children who are 2+ yrs, please contact Karmen Tripney for an application form on 01828 632754 or Linda Mollison on 01828 633742 for general enquiries. Wendy Learmonth

2 GOLDEN WEDDING CONGRATULATIONS

BUICK / ALLAN (left) Graham and Isobel Buick of Denway enjoyed a week- end of celebrations to mark 50 Golden Years together. The couple were married on the 1st February 1958 at Alyth High Parish Church by the Rev. J. Sibbald Clark. They wish to thank everyone for the many cards, gifts and flowers. Also for the cards, visits and kind enquir- ies received during Graham's recent stay in hospital.

DUFFY / MOLLISON (right) Mike and Margaret were married by the Rev. J. Sibbald Clark on the 25th January 1958. They celebrated their anniversary with a family meal at the Strathmore Arms Hotel in Glamis, followed by a buffet and a blether with extended family including best man and bridesmaid the following week at home. In lieu of gifts, donations were gratefully received for the R.N.L.I. in fond memory of Dave, their grandchildren Russell and Jessica’s Dad. Mike's lifelong passion is still pottering about with his beloved motorcycles, and Margaret's is on the family tree trail! They have three children and five grandchildren.

Lounge available for meetings SCOUT REPORT FOOTBALL ‘LIVE’ YOU WOULD think that the TV would be such an influence on young people, but apparently not. Even with on Digital & Five the numerous cooking programmes and the healthy living propaganda, you would imagine that the younger

generation would be completely “au fait” with these trends. Not so in our local environment. To illustrate this point, I invite you to the recent Burns night in the Hut for the Cubs. The fair was traditional and the liquid Carpet Care refreshments were of the variety that was made “fae girders”. The haggis duly addressed and served up to the line of waiting Cubs. “Whits’ that?” What is what?” came the reply. Now at this point you may think that Carpet, Upholstery and Leather the individual’s suspicion was being directed at the haggis which to the eye does have a curious texture, not Cleaned and Protected so! “That yelli stuff” “That’s Neeps” ...Steady on you are way ahead of me “What’s neeps?” “Well you’re one for not knowing!!!” So much for Jamie Oliver and Mr Ramsay! I must also congratulate the Cub leaders for Neil Stewart providing such a feast, I hope the Cubs don’t get too used to these luxuries as they are not going to get such Call for a Free Quote: lavish treatment when they join Scouts! 01828 632771 or 01250 875216 The Scout Troop too have turned to culinary prowess. Last week Barry Tasker had done a session on safety with stoves and suggested that the following week we put this into practise by getting the Scouts to assemble the stoves and cook pancakes. Maybe I Denwell Driveways should buy some shares in Davidson’s – well their sales figures are bound to get a boost. On Pattern Imprinted Concrete Specialists one occasion we at Alyth had to host a meeting for the Leaders from our District and the Patrol Leaders thought it would be a good idea to give them fresh pancakes with their cup of tea. Pattern Imprinted Concrete combines colour Really it was such a simple error to mix up the salt instead of the sugar, but the consequences and texture with the durability associated with were disastrous, but in true Alyth Scout tradition they thought it was hilarious but decided that they couldn’t even feed them to the birds as they might get reported to the RSPCA!
