The senior pupils from Blairgowrie High School who are going to Malawi on a work experience trip, were thrilled with the wonderful support they received at their recent Coffee Morning in Airlie Street Hall, where the amazing sum of £1,255 was raised. They give their sincere thanks to all those who supported it in so many ways and made it such a success. Their Bingo Tea is in the Town Hall on Thursday 20th March, eyes down 7.30pm.
ALYTH PLAYGROUP CITIZEN OF THE YEAR PRESENTATIONS The Volunteers Party on Sunday 3rd February in Alyth Town Hall is organised A HUGE thank you to the people of Alyth for helping the Playgroup raise over £2000 during the time the charity shop was open. annually by Alyth Community Council and includes the Citizen of the Year Recently we also benefited by a further £66 by sending all presentations (see page 4 for the Chairman’s report). the remaining clothing to be recycled by the Rag Bag company. It L-R: Councillor Dennis Melloy, ACC Chairman Jim Adam, Irene Robertson enabled us to remain open for December and January. Once Citizen of the Year, Mr Gray Royal Bank of Scotland Manager, Kyle Macintyre again you have proved how generous and supportive the Young Citizen of the Year, Councillor Ian Miller Alyth community is. By remaining open during the past couple of months we, the committee, have been able to review our position as part of the newly formed North East Perthshire Playgroup Association. You may remember that we joined forces with the Blairgowrie playgroup and the playgroup in Rattray to share the cost of a Manager to oversee operations. This was prompted by the Care Commission’s plans to introduce managers within the playgroup staff structure by 2008/9. However, this has been of no benefit to our playgroup and recently we voted to disband and remain Alyth Playgroup with the intent to support ourselves over the next couple of months until the PlayStart option is offered instead of a playgroup. PlayStart is a council run play option for pre-school children. Parents will pay an amount each session their child attends. The PlayStart team will deliver the sessions in the current playgroup room in the Alyth Primary School Community wing. Our current playgroup staff may still be involved. So no great changes. Even when it comes to fund raising, ‘Oh’, I hear you sigh. We will still need your support during our coffee mornings and any other local activities that take place. This will ensure that our children of pre-school age receive the best learning opportunities before starting nursery. We thank you all in advance and look forward to seeing all at the coffee mornings. If you have children who are 2+ yrs, please contact Karmen Tripney for an application form on 01828 632754 or Linda Mollison on 01828 633742 for general enquiries. Wendy Learmonth

2 GOLDEN WEDDING CONGRATULATIONS
BUICK / ALLAN (left) Graham and Isobel Buick of Denway enjoyed a week- end of celebrations to mark 50 Golden Years together. The couple were married on the 1st February 1958 at Alyth High Parish Church by the Rev. J. Sibbald Clark. They wish to thank everyone for the many cards, gifts and flowers. Also for the cards, visits and kind enquir- ies received during Graham's recent stay in hospital.
DUFFY / MOLLISON (right) Mike and Margaret were married by the Rev. J. Sibbald Clark on the 25th January 1958. They celebrated their anniversary with a family meal at the Strathmore Arms Hotel in Glamis, followed by a buffet and a blether with extended family including best man and bridesmaid the following week at home. In lieu of gifts, donations were gratefully received for the R.N.L.I. in fond memory of Dave, their grandchildren Russell and Jessica’s Dad. Mike's lifelong passion is still pottering about with his beloved motorcycles, and Margaret's is on the family tree trail! They have three children and five grandchildren.
