This realignment saw BMW Motorsport shift its development of young drivers back to the GT and touring car sector. In Formula racing the concept bore fruit for many years in Formula BMW and the Formula BMW Talent Cup and kick-started the racing career of many successful drivers like Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg and Nico Hülkenberg. The focus is on GT and touring car drivers who already have some racing experience. Outings in the BMW M235i Racing are an integral part of the comprehensive training programme. As well as race starts and test drives, intensive theory courses dealing with fitness and PR are planned, as are mental and simulator training. The potential candidates for this year’s class were put to the test in a shootout in the BMW M235i Racing in Dijon on 10th/11th March. A decision as to which of the young drivers showed the most potential is made by a jury of experts, headed by BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. BMW works driver Dirk Adorf will act as a mentor for the junior programme. At the end of the year, the most successful BMW Motorsport Junior of the season will be given the opportunity to continue his training for a second year in a higher racing category.

With 24 entrants in the field it is more popular than ever and with a new push-to- pass system offers even more overtaking maneuvers than before. Among others, the driver line-up includes the Swiss Rahel Frey, the former Macau GP winner André Couto and young talents such as Aidan Wright from Australia and Matt Solomon from HongKong. The series features twelve rounds on six race weekends. The popular Cup again unites high-caliber protagonists this year, including the 2012 and 2013 overall winners Marchy Lee and Adderly Fong (both from HongKong), the Chinese motorsport talent ‘Franky’ Cheng Congfu and the former Formula 1 driver Alex Yoong from Malaysia. With premium quality in products and support Audi Sport’s customer racing department occupies an outstanding position in a tough competitive environment – in as many as four racing categories. In addition, Audi Sport customer racing in 2019 supports commitments in the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the FIA GT World Cup, in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup and at stand-alone events such as the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The four rings have been firmly established also in customer sport since 2009. Following Audi’s successes in rally racing, in touring car racing and in the sports prototype category, the brand started offering products specifically designed for customers a decade ago. During the first decade the company developed six different models. Everything began in GT3 racing with the Audi R8 LMS that was followed in 2015 by the second generation and is now starting to the 2019 season as an evolution. In 2011, the Audi TT RS that was particularly successful in endurance racing was the second model in the program. In 2015, the Audi TT cup car for one- make racing complemented the portfolio. For the 2017 season, a TCR race touring car – the Audi RS 3 LMS – was available for the first time.

    LE MANS 24H FAN GUIDE 2005 „Formula One is for kids, Sportscars for real men“ Michele Alboreto, Sebring 2000 Vorwort Nach dem grossen Erfolg 2004 möchten wir Euch auch in diesem Jahr wieder einen Appetithappen auf die legendären 24 Stunden von Le Mans geben. Die 2005er Auflage der 24 Stunden von Le Mans besitzt im Vorfeld alle Zutaten um als Klassiker in die Geschichte des seit 1923 ausgetragenen Rennens einzugehen. Im zweiten Jahr des Reglementwechsel von LMP900 / LMP675 auf LMP1 / LMP2 tritt in der grossen Prototypen- kategorie der fünfmalige Le Mans Sieger AUDI mit einem nicht mehr weiterentwickelten AUDI R8 an. Die Riege der kleineren Hersteller wie Courage, Dallara, Dome und Pescarolo nutzten die Chance ihre Fahrzeug dem Übergangsreglement anzupassen und konnten in dieser Saison die AUDI R8 bei den 1000km von Spa-Francorchamps aus eigener Kraft schlagen und setzten auch beim Testtag die Pace. In der LMP2 Kategorie kommt es in diesem Jahr dank dem Courage C65 und den Lola B05/40 zu einem ebenfalls sehr ausgeglichenen und zahlenmässig sehenswerten Starterfeld. Unser beson- deres Augenmerk gilt hier dem aus Köln stammenden Team Kruse Motorsport mit einem, für Ian Mitchell eingesetzten, Courage C65 JUDD. Die GT Kategorien sind wie in den vergangenen Jahren wieder sehr stark besetzt. In der GT1 Kategorie werden sich die Werksmannschaften von Aston Martin und Corvette mit den Ferrari F550 von CARE Racing Development auseinander setzten müssen. Die GT2 Kategorie dürfte eine leichte Beute der Porsche 996 GT3-RS(R) werden, jedoch keine leichte Beute für eines der Porsche Teams. Als Bereicherung treten hier Ferrari F360 GTC, TVR T400R und Spyker C8 an.
