Lucifer Over London
Tidligere publisert i Vagant 2/2016. Darken your room, shut the door, empty your mind. Yet you are still in great company. {PDF EPUB} Eyeball Compendium Sex & Horror. Art
Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Eyeball Compendium Sex & Horror. Art & Exploitation by Stephen Thrower Eyeball Compendium: Sex & Horror. Art & Exploitation by Stephen Thrower. Title: Eyeball Compendium. Author: Stephen Thrower. Publisher: FAB Press. Media: Book. Reviewer: James Marriott. Hot on the heels of the FAB Compendium, reviewed elsewhere on this site, comes this collection of high points from Eyeball magazine. Eyeball was probably my favourite film magazine during its erratic run: during a recent house move they were the only film magazines I took out of storage. Nowhere else would you be likely to find references to Foucault, Fellini and Fulci on the same page, the magazine marrying a love of exploitation and art cinema that probably alienated many readers. Not that editor Stephen Thrower - an ex-member of Coil, and currently half of Cyclobe - appeared to care: running three pieces on Andrzej Zulawski, director of the mind-reaming Possession , in three consecutive issues demonstrated that the magazine's obsessions weren't about to be compromised by issues of popularity or accessibility. The book contains pretty much all the material from the magazines, save for Fulci and Argento-related essays that have found their way into other FAB books, and also comes with a few new pieces, notably an interview with Gaspar Noe ( Seul Contre Tous , Irreversible ) and a handful of Stephen Thrower's reviews from Delirium magazine and Shock Xpress. The accent is on the European and fairly marginal - it's not that easy to see the films of Pupi Avati or Juraj Herz in the UK, after all - and the writing tends towards a more academic tone than you'd find in most other genre magazines, but if you expect more from fan writing than slavish drooling over some Italian gut-munching zombie epic, this will probably come as a welcome change. -
Re-Launching the Dream Weapon
RE-LAUNCHING THE DREAM WEAPON: CONSIDERING COIL Coil, “Constant Shallowness Leads to Evil” tour, 2001. From left to right: Ossian Brown, Thighpaulsandra, Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson, John Balance. Photo courtesy of Peter Christopherson. Thomas Bey William Bailey|2 INTRODUCTION: THAT OLE POST-INDUSTRIAL MAGIC The real art communicates before it is understood, it contains the knowledge that all men once had, a knowledge that today is unfortunately often ignored and forgotten. I believe that our life is magical in its essence. The working of magic is a series of actions bringing intention into focus. It's a conscious and active participation in transformation between cause and effect. We know that everything we've ever done and do is intentional, and every intentional act is a Magical act. Not understanding it means human life as a journey from nowhere to nowhere. -Zbigniew Karkowski1 The distinction between musician and nonmusician- which separates the group from the speech of the sorceror- undoubtedly represents one of the very first divisions of labor, one of the very first social differentiations in the history of humanity, even predating the social hierarchy. Shaman, doctor, musician. He is one of society’s first gazes upon itself, he is one of the first catalyzers of violence and myth. -Jacques Attali2 The Bard’s curse is supposed to be able to blight crops and bowl over crooked politicians. The Bard is not just another imagemonger: the Bard, the shaman-poet, wields power. When the Bard pays attention, even wild animals come ‘round -

Through a mixture of ideas drawn from artistic avant-garde movements as well as new social and religious movements, it examines the radical political and hedonist imaginaries of the experimental fringes of the UK Underground. Even though the theatres of operation have changed more than once since 1991 with the rise of the internet and a globalised finance economy, these imaginaries still raise questions that speak directly to the contemporary. -

My central inquiry examines the relations between collective practices with an explicit agenda of cultural revolution and discourses of direct revolutionary action, cultural guerrilla warfare and patchwork spirituality, all aiming to generate new forms of social life.
