May is a great time of the year, especially for those of us who live here in Florida. Most of us were smart enough to move here from the cold country, while a few of us were lucky enough to be born here. I frequently receive Studebaker newsletters from Chapters in places like Syracuse, New York and Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I love getting their newsletters and frequently I get something that I think you folks will enjoy. For instance, the April Badger Bullet-N featured their Joke of the Month that I’m sure they won’t mind my sharing it with you. It goes like this---Fifty-one years ago, Herman James, a North Carolina mountain man, was drafted by the Army. On his first day in basic training, the Army issued him a comb. That afternoon the Army barber sheared off all his hair. On his second day, the Army issued Herman a toothbrush. That after- noon the Army dentist yanked seven of his teeth. On the third day, the Army issued him a jock strap. The Army has been looking for Herman for 51 years. After you finish laughing at that one, get on out there and work on your Studebaker, or find one of our fellow members who still has a Studebaker, or more, like several of our members who own multiple Studebakers.

    Introduction to R&C Database Compilation & Index I have a long history and fondness for Rod & Custom magazine. This is the first magazine I purchased at age 10, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I often refer back to my collection, but find it hard to quickly lay my hands on a given article. This is for fellow HAMB members who share a love for this little magazine. This Index covers Rod & Custom Magazine from May 1953 through May 1974. I stopped at 1974 since R&C went out of print then. R&C was restarted in December 1988 and lasted until October 2014. This index is created for general reference, technical reference, research, tracing automobile histories, and genealogy. I have attempted to use a consistent categorization or article grouping scheme across all 20+ years, even though editors or previous compilations may not have used this convention. This index contains the following specific information: Title of each article along with a descriptive supplement such as club affiliation, noted customizers, past owners, professions, etc. The author’s and/or photographer’s name where space allowed. Whether it be photos or stories, local contributions make this magazine so much more interesting for our members. Please keep your contributions coming; the whole membership is grateful for your efforts. I have finally got to the bottom all of my MGB gremlins. It’s been a tale of two steps forward and one back with the root cause being a failing ‘hot’ coil. The other poor running and wavering rev counter issues were caused because my “hot” electronic ignition, (when running with a standard coil) needed its positive feed to come from a ‘clean’ source and not the coil. It’s quite complicated but now resolved and if you have 8 hours to spare I’ll tell you about it someday. The MG passed its WoF during the week but the garage, who I’ve learned to trust, pointed out that the engine and gearbox rubber mounts are starting to break down. I’ll put the car up on our new ramp soon and have a good look myself, but having read some horror stories about these things, I think this might be a job for a specialist MG garage. Finally another plus for our National VCC Discussion Group. We now have around 1600 members in the group and the photographs and stories that are being published are just amazing.

    The Hillholder March 2012 - VOL. 37 ISSUE 3 THE HILLHOLDER The official newsletter of the North Georgia Chapter Studebaker Drivers Club STUDEBAKER SPOTLIGHT: THE 1955 COMMANDER REGAL Featured this month is the 1955 Studebaker Commander Regal owned by North Georgia member Richard Knoblock. The Commander is a model-name used by Studebaker for many years, starting in 1927 and continuing until 1964, with the model not used in 1936 and 1959-1963. Throughout the years, the “Commander” models occupied varying positions in the hierarchy of Studebaker models. It started out in the 1920's in the mid-range with the President being the top of the line. In the 1930’s, the Commander replaced Studebaker’s least expen- sive model, formerly known as the Dictator. By the end of the ‘30’s, the Commander model was again in the mid-range in value.
