It concerns an impoverished young ne'er-do-well named Aladdin, in a Chinese city, who is recruited by a sorcerer from the Maghreb who passes himself off as the brother of Aladdin's late father to retrieve a wonderful oil lamp from a booby-trapped magic cave. After the sorcerer attempts to double-cross him, Aladdin finds himself trapped in the cave. Fortunately, Aladdin retains a magic ring lent to him by the sorcerer. When he rubs his hands in despair, he inadvertently rubs the ring, and a djinni appears, who takes him home to Aladdin and the Lamp mother. Aladdin is still carrying the Aladdin and the Lamp, and when his mother Aladdin and the Lamp to clean it, a second, far more powerful djinni appears, who is bound to do the bidding of the person holding the lamp. With the aid of the djinni of the lamp, Aladdin becomes rich and powerful and marries princess Badroulbadour, the Emperor's daughter. The djinni builds Aladdin a wonderful palace - far more magnificent than that of the Emperor himself. The sorcerer returns and is able to get his hands on the lamp by tricking Aladdin's wife, who is unaware of the lamp's importance, by offering to exchange "new lamps for old". He orders the djinni of the lamp to take the palace to his home in the Maghreb. Fortunately, Aladdin retains the magic ring and is able to summon the lesser djinni. Although the djinni of the ring cannot directly undo any of the magic of the djinni of the lamp, he is able to transport Aladdin to Maghreb, and help him recover his wife and the lamp and defeat the sorcerer. Title: Aladdin and the Magic Lamp This is the classic story of the young boy Aladdin who is tricked by and evil wizard to go inside the cave that holds a great treasure and there is an old lamp that he needs to bring to him. He meets the slave of the lamp and his and becomes the most famous kid in town and marries the princess Madral. Written by MuffinChan. I just revisited the old worn-out VHS copy I watched over 20 years ago as a kid, and it was watching that very tape as a kid that something hit me. When Alladin escapes from the cave he has a monologue about what a waste of his life it would have been if he'd have died in the cave. It wasn't long after that I put the pieces together and figured out that I was was some day going to die too. Even though no characters are actually killed on screen in this cartoon, there is a lot of Aladdin and the Lamp about death, dying, and being dead However, that said, the animation is good for Anime of the time, about on the Aladdin and the Lamp level as Voltron or Robotech The voice acting is so-so, but the real star of the show is the music. The opening number over the beginning credits though in Japanese is really exciting and I guarantee it'll be stuck in your head for years. The story is a lot simpler and moves faster than the Disney version, and manages to cram in a lot more in terms of interesting villains and monsters. Such monsters include reanimated stone snakes, a giant vulture, and some golems. It's all actually quite imaginative and well-realized, but I wish more attention was paid to Alladin and Badral's relationship Also, not once does anybody ever ask Alladin, until recently a penniless thief, HOW he built a palace in one night and where he got that dowry parade from. One last quibble - Alladin's friends are held hostage by the caliph when the princess is kidnapped, but are never seen or mentioned again afterward. Did too much time go by and they got executed? As much as the movie scarred my life and as imperfect as it is, it will always hold a place in my heart. Looking for something to watch? Aladdin's Lamp - Storynory A long time ago, in Persia, a poor boy called Aladdin was playing with his friends in the streets of his city. A stranger came up to him and asked him if he was the son of Mustapha the Tailor. The next day, the uncle led Aladdin out far beyond the city gates. They journeyed onwards until late afternoon, but Aladdin did not feel tired because his uncle told him so many interesting stories. Eventually they reached the foot of a mountain. The magician lit a fire and threw some powder on it while saying some magical words. The earth trembled a little and a large boulder rolled to one side. Aladdin saw a flight of steps leading down into a dark cave. The opening was just large enough for a boy to pass through, but plainly the magician, who was rather fat, would not have managed to enter the cave himself. Pass through them without touching anything, or you will die instantly. These halls lead into a garden of fine fruit trees. Walk on until you come to a table upon which stands a lighted lamp. Pour out the oil it contains, and bring it to me. Aladdin was afraid to disobey the magician, and went down the stairs into the cave. He did not die. Then he passed through the garden where he picked fruit from the trees. Later on, he found the lamp, just as the magician had said, and he Aladdin and the Lamp back up the stairs to the mouth of the cave. For two days Aladdin remained trapped inside the cave. At Aladdin and the Lamp he clasped his hands in prayer, and in so doing rubbed the ring that he had picked off the ground. I am the slave of the ring, and will obey thee in all things.
