Pepper, dyna’r flwyddyn gwelwyd y grŵp roc cyntaf yn y Gymraeg.” “The year in which the Beatles released Sgt Pepper, was the same year we saw the first ever Welsh rock band.” Roedd hi’n 1967, a gyda cherddoriaeth roc yn ffynnu dros y ffin yn Lloegr a ledled y byd, roedd newid ar droed yma yng Nghymru. Daeth y band roc, Y Blew, ar y sin fel chwyldro, gan weddnewid tirwedd gerddorol Cymru fel y grŵp cyntaf oedd yn canu cerddoriaeth roc yn y Gymraeg. Denodd y band sylw cenedlaethol, gan ddechrau’r chwyldro sydd hyd heddiw yn cael ei alw yn y Sin Roc Gymraeg. A ninnau nawr yn 2019, dros 50 mlynedd yn ddiweddarach, mae’r sin yn byrlymu o’n cwmpas o hyd. Yn sin amrywiol, cyffrous, mae hi’n draddodiad sy’n mynnu sylw arbennig un o enwau cerddorol amlycaf Cymru, Prydain a thu hwnt. Yn Gymro o Gaerdydd, yn gyflwynydd, DJ a cherddor, Huw Stephens aeth ar bererindod gerddorol o Gymru i nodi hanner can mlynedd ers i glustiau’r byd glywed cerddoriaeth roc Gymraeg am y tro cyntaf. Cynhyrchiad ei bererindod ydi Anorac, ffilm sy’n peintio darlun o sin cerddorol Gymraeg ddoe a heddiw Cymru. Gyda’r ffilm, sydd wedi ei chynhyrchu gan Boom Cymru, eisoes wedi ei darlledu mewn sinemâu ledled Cymru, bydd cyfle i wylwyr S4C brofi’r gampwaith gyda darllediad arbennig o Anorac ar y sianel nos Iau, 4 Ebrill am 9.30. -

Ofcom is the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries, with responsibilities across broadcasting, telecommunications, postal services and the airwaves over which wireless devices operate. Ofcom operates under a number of Acts of Parliament and other legislation. These include the Communications Act 2003, the Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006, the Broadcasting Acts 1990 and 1996, the Digital Economy Act 2010 and the Postal Services Act 2011. The Communications Act states that Ofcom‟s general duties should be to further the interests of citizens and of consumers. Meeting these two duties is at the heart of everything we do. As a converged regulator, Ofcom publishes high quality data and evidence about the broadcasting and communications sectors in Wales, through, among others, its annual Communications Market Report, UK Infrastructure Report1 and Public Service Broadcasting Annual Report. The data in much of this submission is based on the latest iterations of these reports, published in 2013. Data for the 2014 reports is currently being collated. The Communications Sector In recent years, consumers in Wales have benefited from significant changes in the way communications services are delivered. As a result, consumer expectations have changed considerably. At the turn of the twentieth century, however, as Welsh became a minority language in Wales, there grew an increasing recognition that the school system was key to the safeguarding and revitalisation of the language. Welsh finally became a compulsory language up to GCSE (16+) level in all state schools in Wales in 1999. -

Oct. 2021 Style in the vernacular and on the radio: code-switching and mutation as stylistic and social markers in Welsh Myfyr Prys School of Linguistics and English language Bangor University PhD 2016 Abstract This thesis seeks to analyse two types of linguistic features of Welsh, code-switching and mutation, as sociolinguistic variables: features which encode social information about the speaker and/or stylistic meaning. Developing a study design that incorporates an analysis of code-switching and mutation in naturalistic speech has demanded a relatively novel methodological approach. The study combined a variationist analysis of the vernacular use of both variables in the 40-hour Siarad corpus (Deuchar 2014) with a technique that ranks radio programmes in order of formality through the use of channel cues and other criteria (Ball et al 1988).
