Hello Since 1994, Media UK - www.mediauk.com - has contained a full media directory. We now contain media news from over 50 sources, RAJAR and playlist information, the industry's widest selection of radio jobs, and much more - and it's all free. From our directory, we're proud to be able to produce a new edition of the Radio Pocket Book. We've based this on the Radio Authority version that was available when we launched 17 years ago. We hope you find it useful. Enjoy this return of an old favourite: and set mediauk.com on your browser favourites list. The year before I had listened with excitement to the launch of our local commercial station, Liverpool's Radio City, and wanted to find out what other stations I might be able to pick up. In those days the Guide covered TV as well as radio, which could only manage to fill two pages – but then there were only 19 “ILR” stations. Nevertheless from then on I was hooked and carried my copy around with me, especially when we went on holiday. I would drive my parents mad as I fiddled with the radio every few miles to see what other distant stations I could pick up – a habit that persists and still annoys anyone I travel with. Over the years the Guide grew, as did its BBC counterpart, first with new stations such as Radio Aire or the doomed Centre Radio in Leicester, then a doubling of choice with the end of AM/FM simulcasting and then a whole range of smaller stations. The Guide reflected the growth of a vibrant industry spreading into every part of the UK. Today we are in the middle of a further explosion of both listener choice and ways to listen, as community radio and digital-only stations launch on a variety of new platforms: on DAB, on the internet and via TV, as well as traditional FM. Most of us can now choose from hundreds of UK stations as well as thousands from overseas. The days when I could only choose between four BBC networks, one BBC local station and one ILR station are a very distant memory. It’s great to have the Guide back to help us through this wealth of choice. Peter Davies Director of Radio, Ofcom September 2011 Some questions answered How this pocket book was compiled Media UK is a user-generated directory, and has hundreds of updates a week from readers at mediauk.com. If you spot anything wrong, visit mediauk.com/fixerrors - it’ll take less than two minutes. We’ve spent time with the major groups ensuring that our data for them is as correct as it can be. The people we list We only list personnel for radio stations who have approved their proof for the pocket book, and we list them in alphabetical order. Contact [email protected] if your station hasn't got anyone listed. There's plenty more people at mediauk.com Websites and email addresses are on mediauk.com If you want online information, we bet you’ll be online anyway, and therefore our lovely website is right for you. You’ll find it at mediauk.com - it’s very good, it’s searchable, and it’s free. Stations that just say “DAB” on them: what multiplex are they? FM frequencies don’t have coverage areas in the Pocket Book, so we don’t list the multiplex areas for DAB either. You’ll find a full list on mediauk.com - along with Freeview, Freesat, Sky and cable details, and links to listen. But we own more stations than this! We list radio stations like listeners do - by programming, not by historical or legal franchise, nor by advertising area. Some stations that share programming are treated as one station by us, just like your audience do. How can I get more copies? Unlike previous editions of the Pocket Book, we can't afford to give these away for free. That said, because this is produced automatically from Media UK data, we can produce any number of copies of this pocketbook for you, in any print style: including updated and filtered data, however you want it. We can even print it on a jigsaw. (A very big one). Contact [email protected] with your requirements. RadioCentre RadioCentre is the industry body for UK commercial radio. It exists to maintain and build a strong and successful commercial radio industry, and to help promote the value and diversity of commercial radio. Founded in 2006 after the merger of the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) and the Commercial Radio Companies Association (CRCA), RadioCentre represents radio groups and stations from rural, small scale ventures, to household names serving major metropolitan areas. Working with a range of stakeholders, RadioCentre works for the greater benefit of commercial radio, from lobbying on the industry’s behalf with government, Ofcom and policy makers, to raising the profile of commercial radio with advertisers and their agencies, and of course, working with radio stations themselves, helping them maximise the potential of their businesses. www.radiocentre.org [email protected] The Directory Our directory is in alphabetical order.
