    Keeping It Alive: Mapping Bangkok’s Diverse Living Culture Bussakorn Binson+ Pattara Komkam++ Pornprapit Phaosavadi+++ and Kumkom Pornprasit++++ (Thailand) Abstract This research project maps Bangkok’s living local culture sites while exploring, compiling and analyzing the relevant data from all 50 districts. This is an overview article of the 2011 qualitative !eld research by the Urban Research Plaza and the Thai Music and Culture Research Unit of Chulalongkorn University to be published in book form under the title Living Local Cultural Sites of Bangkok in 2012. The complete data set will be transformed into a website fortifying Bangkok’s cultural tourism to remedy its reputation as a destination for sex tourism. The !ve areas of cultural activity include the performing arts, rites, sports and recreation, craftsmanship, and the domestic arts. It was discovered that these living local cultural sites mirror the heterogeneity of its residents with their diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. There are local culture clusters of Laotians, Khmers, Mon, Chinese, Islam, Brahman-Hinduism, and Sikhs as well as Westerners. It was also found that the respective culture owners are devoted to preserve their multi-generational heritage. The natural beauty of these cultural sites remains clearly evident and vibrant, even though there remain dif!culties hampering their retention. The mapping of these sites are discussed as well as the issues surrounding those cultural sites that are in danger of extinction due to the absence of successors and other supportive factors necessary for their sustainability. Abstract This dissertation offers an ethnography of motorcycle taxi drivers: Bangkok’s most important and informal network of everyday mobility. Drawing on over eight years of experience in the region, six months of archival research, and 24 months of fieldwork, I analyze how the drivers, mostly male rural migrants, negotiate their presence in the city through spatial expertise, bodily practices, and social relations. Their physical mobility through traffic, I argue, shapes their ability to find unexplored routes in the social, economic, and political landscapes of the city and to create paths for action where other urban dwellers see a traffic jam or a political gridlock.

International Journal of Agricultural Technology 14(7): 1921-1930. Abstract The behavior using of chemicals in rice fields farmers of Ban Nongtokpan, Nongtokpan sub-district, Yang Talat district, Kalasin province, was investigated to develop a manual for organic farming for Ban Nongtokpan farmers, and compared knowledge, attitude and skill of doing organic farming for farmers of Ban Nongtokpan. The sample used as the chemical use behavior of farmers were 55 peoples from 25% farmers of Ban Nongtokpan, and the sample used in organic farming training were 35 farmers of Ban Nongtokpan, Nongtokpan sub-district, Yang Talat district, Kalasin province by volunteery. The research found that farmers had understood and knew how to apply agricultural inputsin rice fields at low level / 81.85. The farmers who use the training manual had advanced to learn for 63.86%. The farmers attending training gained knowledge and attitude after training rather than pre- training, then the farmers got a good skill in organic farming. The Nong Saeng Natural Gas Power Project (the ‘Project’) entails the construction of a 1,600- megawatt combined cycle power plant in Nong Saeng district, Saraburi Province, 100 km north of Bangkok. The Project’s power station components are located in Nong Saeng District in Saraburi Province while the water reservoir area is located in Pha Chee District, Ayuthaya Province. The Project will be developed and implemented under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Electricity Generation Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and a 25-year gas supply agreement (GSA) with PTT Public Company Limited (PTT). Project construction and operation costs and fuel costs are passed through to EGAT under the PPA. The Project is a public-private partnership (PPP) under the Independent Power Producers (IPP) program that utilizes commercial energy from power plants with capacities greater than 90 MW. An interconnecting pipeline from the plant will connect to PTT’s existing Wangnoi-Kaengkoi transmission pipeline 20 kilometers away. A new transmission line will also be constructed to connect to EGAT’s system 1.5 kilometers away. The Project is owned by Gulf JP NS Company Limited (the ‘Company’). 2. The Mission visited the Project site including the point of connection of water and gas pipelines, drove along the alignment of the water and gas pipelines, and interviewed affected people.
