Crampton Gapshelter on Appalachian trail Harpers Ferry KOA Swains Lock on C&O canal Camp Tuckahoe Ft. Frederick Assateaque C&O canal, around Antietam Washington Monument Gettysburg Area Westmoreland State Park Any state park is great Camp Sinoquipe (summer camp) Rocky Gap Camp Oest/Spencer Camp Rodney Troop 9 is blessed to have its own campsite off Wesley Road — Mattaponi. Patrol and Troop camping several times a year Shawnee State Park in PA — Lake canoeing, day hike and stop at the near-by 9/11 Shanksville, PA memorial for history learning. Cabin camping in Gettysburg is an annual tradition. 2. Do you have any good troops/packs biking trips you would recommend? Bixing on the C&O is a lot of fun. There are some great trails up in the state park close to PAW PAW tunnel. Green, something or other. Another good trail is the one by hunt walley that runs up to York PA. There are also several trails up im PA too. We did a bike hike on the C&O Canal near Washington, DC. Camped at the Marsden Tract Campsite near GreatFalls. Biked into DC approximately 10 miles.. into Georgetown and then Arlington, Capitol Visitor Center with stops at monuments along the Mall. Biked that national monuments in DC with a park ranger. The airport loop at BWI. Wedid part of it and included the park where you cansit, eat, and watch the planes land. Boys loved it. 3. Do you have any good troops/packs backpacking trips you would recommend? Every November we backpack 8-10 miles on the AT either in MD or PA. We vary the trip year by year; starting either in Boonesboro, MD at the Original Washington Monumentto Annapolis Rocks and camping at Pogo Campsite. Or in PA using Pine Grove Furnace State Park as a stepping off or arrival point depending on what direction we hike. Pine Grove offers chance for non-backpackers to meet up for day hikes and meals due to easy access. Either dinner competition or a snack competition. We recently did a cub father/son campout where we covered several things in athe Webelos requirements. Mtn Man breakfast (some kids come just for that) Son of Gun Stew Chicken Cord on Bleu Taco in a bag Foil dinner Tacos Stroganoff 7. Do you have any good camping/hiking/backpacking tips or tricks you could share? Not really.. Just stay safe, prepare a good plan.
