In this sense, an educator is expected to be an example in terms of his behaviors as well as transferring his knowledge to the students. The best way to raise good students and form the desired behavior in them is the educators who personally touch the lives of their students being role models. In the Turkish academic world, M. Orhan Okay has a remarkable place not only with his scientific studies but also with his “human work” upbringing style. This study is carried out with document analysis which is one of the qualitative research methods. In this study, it is underlined that Okay is a role model/an ideal educator, further every aspect of his ideal educationalism, which complements his exemplary scientist identity, is emphasized. In this respect, besides being a well-equipped scientist, he showed his students and the whole academic environment how an example of an ideal / role model should be. -

Education and Science Vol 39 (2014) No 175 27-40 A Turkish Intellectual Between Marxist Politics and Durkheim’s Pedagogy: Sadrettin Celâl Antel and History Teaching * Bahri Ata 1 Abstract Key Words Sadrettin Celâl Antel is one of the important pedagogues of the Sadrettin Celâl Antel Turkish education history. He lived between 1890 and 1954. This Pedagogy study aimed to reveal the pedagogical mentality of Sadrettin Celâl History teaching Antel and his contributions to history teaching. Survey method and Productivity document analysis to analyze the data was employed in the study. In this context, the present study examined the undergraduate Article Info thesis entitled “Liselerde Tarih Randımanı (1949-1950) [Productivity of Received: 08.10.2014 History in High Schools]” prepared by Refref Çelebioğlu under the Accepted: 10.04.2014 advisement of Sadrettin Celâl Antel in Istanbul University Faculty of Letters Institute of Pedagogy. The research data were analyzed Online Published: 11.10.2014 through descriptive analysis. It was found out that Sadrettin Celâl, who had a progressive and polytechnic pedagogical mentality, closely followed the contemporary developments in pedagogy in Europe and the USA. It was also understood that while he adopted an approach supporting Durkheim in his works about the teaching of the history course in schools in accordance with the objectives of the national history, he partly employed the Marxist perspective in the creation of the content of the history course. It was determined that he not only developed an enjoyable game named “History Raffle” for the history course, but also made an important contribution to discussions about the productivity of history teaching in high schools in terms of the classical theory with the undergraduate thesis he supervised. -

Seicom in Turkey History of two important installations Izmir 2009 – Gaziantep 2012 The first major installation made by Seicom was Izmir in 2009 Aliağa is a major industrial district in Izmir, province within Aegean region of Turkey. The city is located about 50 km north from Smirne; economy is focused on a notable oil refinery and on tourism. The Turkish basketball Federation is really important and influential: Türkiye Basketbol Federasyonu (acronym TBF). The federation controls also the National Picture of Aliaga Arena Izmir, the first important installation made by Seicom in 2009 basketball Team. Headquarters is in Istanbul and the current president is Turgay Demirel. It’s been affiliated with FIBA since dal 1936 and organizes the Turkish basketball championship . Meşrutiyet döneminde kurulan paramiliter gençlik örgütleri, kuruldukları dönemin koşulları ve ihtiyaçları doğrultusunda, “millet-i müsellaha” yaratma amacı çerçevesinde, gençliğin savaş için fiziksel ve ruhsal açıdan hazırlanması ve seferber edilmesinin birer aracı olarak incelenmiştir. Bir yandan Avrupa’da görülen benzer uygulamalar incelenerek, bir karşılaştırma yapma ve bu örgütlerin özgül örnekler olmaktan çıkarılıp, daha geniş bir tarihsel ve mekansal düzlemde anlaşılmaları sağlanmaya, diğer yandan da ortaya çıktıkları dönemin koşul ve ihtiyaçlarına odaklanılarak, bu örgütlerin savaşlarla ve savaşın ihtiyaçları ile olan bağlantısı gösterilmeye çalışılmıştır. Paramiliter gençlik örgütlerinin amaç, örgüt yapısı ve faaliyetleri açısından ayrıntılı bir biçimde incelenmeye çalışıldığı bu tez, ikincil kaynaklardan da yararlanmakla birlikte büyük ölçüde arşiv belgeleri, örgütlerin resmi mevzuatları, yayınları ve dönem gazete ve dergileri gibi birincil kaynaklara dayandırılmaya çalışılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda sözkonusu örgütlerin Balkan Savaşı’nda alınan yenilgilerin ertesinde, gençleri fiziksel ve ruhsal açıdan askere hazırlamak için kuruldukları görülmüştür. Gelvin, Chair This dissertation examines the making of modernity in the late Ottoman Empire by tracing the connections between sports, the body, male subject formation, nation building, and communal and imperial identity. It focuses on the development of a shared Ottoman physical culture amongst upper and middle-class Muslim, Christian, and Jewish men of Istanbul from the 1870s until World War I. My research draws from a diverse array of archives and primary sources written in Ottoman-Turkish, Armenian, Armeno- Turkish, French, English, German, and Greek, such as government reports and documents, school and association records, private correspondence, periodicals, books, and pamphlets, as well as vernacular photographs, in order to present an alternative understanding of cultural transformations and the historical linkages between different ethno-religious communities of the late Ottoman Empire. The central argument of this ii dissertation is that Muslims, Christians, and Jews of Istanbul engaged sports as a shared civic activity that offered benefits for the individual, community, and empire. This study investigates how Ottoman physical culture was underpinned by novel understandings of the body and implicated in larger debates and processes concerning the self, gender, ethno-religious communal identity, and the nation by pursuing three principle areas of inquiry.
