ACTA UNIVERSITATIS DANUBIUS Vol. 10, no. 2/2017 Miscellaneous Historical Development of Turkish Sports and Turkish Basketball Okşay Oğuz1, Ahmet Gürsel Oğuz2 Abstract: Sports is a biological, pedagogical, and social phenomenon that improves the physiological and psychological well-being of the individuals, regulates their social behavior, and brings them to a certain level of mental and motoric. In addition, the participation in sports or any physical activity allows the person to discover different identities and roles, offers the opportunity to change self- perception, and stimulates group emotion. In this study, the researches, articles and theses related to sports history, history of Turkish sports and history of Turkish basketball were summarized and compiled and contributed to the researchers who will work in this field. In Turkey, the scientific researches and the scanning methods of resources have been used in this field. As a result, more resources should be searched to reveal the historical development of sports and basketball and to make some determinations. The compilation may also be useful in the lightening, the detection of information that is lacking in this area. Keywords: sport history; Turkish sports history; Turkish basketball history Introduction The thought that the human body is trained for certain purposes is as old as the existence of mankind on earth. In geological periods, each of which lasts for millions of years, humankind has struggled to survive with a strong natural and animal realm. Especially men have had to struggle with their own forces and use their bodies for jobs such as war and hunting. Even the weapons and tools they used for these jobs were based on the use of human power.

Seicom in Turkey History of two important installations Izmir 2009 – Gaziantep 2012 The first major installation made by Seicom was Izmir in 2009 Aliağa is a major industrial district in Izmir, province within Aegean region of Turkey. The city is located about 50 km north from Smirne; economy is focused on a notable oil refinery and on tourism. The Turkish basketball Federation is really important and influential: Türkiye Basketbol Federasyonu (acronym TBF). The federation controls also the National Picture of Aliaga Arena Izmir, the first important installation made by Seicom in 2009 basketball Team. Headquarters is in Istanbul and the current president is Turgay Demirel. It’s been affiliated with FIBA since dal 1936 and organizes the Turkish basketball championship . Several national teams play in the major European tournaments . http://www.seicom-italy.com/dettaglio_installazione.asp?codice=14 S e i c o m - i t a l y . c o m T u r k e y Page 1 Aliaga Arena Izmir (installation 2009) Make a parquet for professional play: this is Seicom’s goal. Protection of ligaments and players’ health through parquet certified according EN 14904 provisions and FIBA approved. The constant communication with local operators, taking care of each step of the installation in Italy and abroad: this is a must for Seicom. The good result of an installation starts from attention and care of all details, constant control over installation conditions and inspections; that’s the only way we can grant the perfect result. • Helping the Game to Grow Day One of the FIBA World Congress Saw an Amended Version of FIBA’S Statutes Approved Unanimously

One of the key changes to the statutes is the new mid-term Congress. While terms of office will remain the same – a four-year cycle – this mid-term Congress is similar to the regular one in every other way. Fiba secretary General and international Olympic Committee (iOC) member patrick baumann explained the thinking behind the new Congress cycle. “We took a decision some years back to strive for more efficient and better organised member federations. it started with giving them a manual outlining the key aspects for successful governance of their institutions,” he said. “the will and the work were there, but we realised that things were not moving as fast as they could. the contact with the federations and the interaction between them were still insufficient.” baumann points out that basketball is now progressing much faster than in the past. “things happen very rapidly so you need to be there to act and take decisions. With the past system if you missed one Congress, you were out for eight years. it made it virtually impossible to acquire and exchange the tools and “We took a decision know-how that is so crucial.” the idea is that with a some years back shorter period between Congresses, members will be to strive for more more aware of what is being discussed, will participate efficient and better in the debate and return organised member home to share the acquired knowledge.

It is a pleasure to host you in Istanbul and Ankara for what promises to be an unforgettable 10 days of basketball. The 16 best teams in the world are here with us, and I have no doubt that they will inspire basketball lovers in Turkey and around the world. For the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF), which is currently celebrating the 55th anniversary of its founding, this is a poignant opportunity to reflect on the history of our game and our vision for the future. With this world championship Turkey has become the first country to host FIBA World and continental championships in both men’s and women’s basketball in the last 15 years. This year, for the first time ever, our men’s and women’s national teams will have competed in FIBA’s flagship tournaments. Earlier this summer our U18 and U20 Men’s National Teams were crowned European Champions. At TBF our goal is increasing the impact of basketball, and that means making a difference in the community. This year we inaugurated our new social responsibility project, PASS IT ON, the centrepiece of which was Camp PASS IT ON.
