Body Shape Guide ‘Pear Shape’

CHARACTERISED BY:

• HIPS WIDER THAN SHOULDERS

Tops: Sparkly, patterned & brightly coloured /tops with different prints. The lengths of your tops and are either above or below the widest point of your hips and bottom. Types of necklines: strapless(tube) neckline, V-neck, sweetheart neckline, square neckline, boat neckline. : Fit & flare, waist definition and sleeves, -, empire-line. and : Boyfriend jeans, kickflare/bootcut and wide legged, skinny can work if high-waisted as it highlights your small waist. , (always with a fitted top) Overall high-rise is your friend, can sometimes wear mid-rise too. :Flared, A-line, Maxi Jackets: Fitted with waist definition Double breasted jackets Straight cut dresses () Body Con dresses Pencil skirts and mini skirts Cigarette pants Low Rise jeans or trousers 1 ‘Inverted Triangle Shape’

Tops: /blouses/cardigans, fitted with V- or U-neckline and a length that just below the hip bone. Jeans and trousers; Skinny, bootcut, straight, kickflare, culottes, tailored straight cuts. Jackets: Straight cut jackets that are fitted or nipped in at the waist. Belted styles are good as are peplum but that the shoulder pads are not too big. Dresses: Simple straight lines such as shift/tunic dresses and those with a / waist. Skirts: A-line or full skirts, pleated , tulip, trapeze, multilayered skirts. Skirt lengths can vary from very short and flared to long and flowing. Brights and metallics are good to draw attention to the bottom half. with an open neckline and waist detail. Wide legged styles are really good. Tops with large patterns or shoulder detail like epaulettes, also bandeau, bat sleeve styles – try to draw attention to bottom half. Tops with thin shoulder straps. Shirts and blouses with short and puffed sleeves.

Tops: , tops, and blouses that are mid-hip length with a deep scoop or V-neck. Statement sleeves are great such as balloon, fluted of frilled. Clothes with frills, layers, flounces, big collars. Jackets: Straight cuts, peplum and structured with waist definition all work. Belted are good too as that cut adds waist definition. Jeans and trousers: this shape can wear almost ANY kind of trouser. Jeans, skinny, bootcut, flared & wide legged. High waisted or mid-rise. Dresses: Empire-waist dresses, wrap dresses, puffed sleeves (most shapes work.) Asymmetric cuts work very well on this body shape. Skirts: Flared skirts are best to add shape but you can go straight in a too. Jumpsuits with waist detail. Try to always create a waist, use belts on dresses and trousers and tuck tops in. • USUALLY QUITE ROUNDED BUTT AND THIGHS BUT YOU CAN BE MORE OF A ‘NEAT’ HOURGLASS SHAPE TOO – THE PROPORTIONS OF THE BODY ARE THE SAME THOUGH

• CLEAR WAIST DEFINITION - IN AND OUT SHAPE Dresses: bodycon, dresses that are fitted on the top and flared on the bottom (fit and flare), wrap dresses, anything fitted with waist definition to highlight curves. Structure and tailoring usually looks great on this body type. Belts and waist ties Dresses or tops with ruching at the waist Skirts: high-waisted pencil, flared midi skirts, multilayered skirts, wrap skirts with the length below the knee. Trousers/jeans: Wide-legged/culottes, flared, skinny or straight cut with a medium or high rise, flat fronted trousers with side zip. Jackets: Single breasted with waist definition Baggy, shapeless or boxy clothes. Overly fussy or frilly tops adding bulk - more so if you are busty Ruffles, pockets & embellishments at the hips which can make you look bigger than you are Low-rise jeans or trousers

• SOMETIMES THE WAIST IS WIDER THAN THE HIPS

• GREAT LEGS

Vertical slimming lines Tops (blouses, shirts, cardigans) with a V-neck. The perfect length is just below your hip bone. A-symmetric tops or fluted sleeves draw attention away from the belly. Also empire line tops work well as they are fitted at a slim part of the body just under the bust. Tailored jackets and trapeze that fall below the waist to mid-thigh. Dresses: A-line dresses with high waistlines made from light and flowing fabrics. Empire line is great. Jeans and trousers: High-waisted bootcut, flared, skinny/narrow-leg jeans, cropped trousers, capris, palazzo pants all work. Skirts: Bias cut, A-line and circle shapes, pleated skirt or skirts with a split, wrap skirts. Jackets: You can wear like it’s your job. Tailored jackets and trapeze cuts that fall below the waist to mid-thigh. Long tunic styles. If wearing a shorter patterned (try a bomber) with a longer dark top underneath can be slimming.
