UbreFN: said by the Katharinenstadt FSL to be fromUC Dommartin, Picardie, Frankreich with a Krefeld wife fromUC Kirchhalt. Pleve thought this might be spelled Uber. Gary Ubert says it is Ubert! Gary's and his brothers's DNA tests show that the family Y-Chromosome DNA belongs to the quite rare K2 Haplogroup. In France and in Moersch, Baden-Baden, perhaps as early as 1655, the name was spelled Houbre. The 1777 Katharinenstadt census says that a son had been born about 1761 in Niederburg Meyitz. One of the Dommartin Houbre men married a Poullet woman Ubrig{A.Eliesabetha}: married Ruepple{J.Jacob} in Buedingen 12 April 1766 (Mai&Marquardt#527 & KS152). On 8 Aug 1766 this Ruppel couple arrived in Russia, he said to be from Darmstadt (Kulberg4140). Not found in T. By 16 Aug 1767 this couple had settled at Mueller FSL #6, he said to be from Schwartz-bei-Alsfeld, Darmstadt. Ubrig{Joh.}: KS161 says he was from Rainrod near Alsafeld. No further information. UccleGL: see Ukkel. UchnitzGL, Stuhm Amt: is now Usnice, Poland, and was some 8.5 miles N of Stuhm town. Said by the Rosenort FSL to be homeUC to a Borm{Peter} family. Also spelled Uschnitz and Usnitz. UckersdorfGL, Nassau-Dillenburg: is some 3 miles SSW of Dillenburg town, and said by the Bangert FSL to homeUC to a Siebert family. UdeFN: said by the LauweFSL to be fromUC Anahlt-Bernburg (no locality mentioned). In 1798 the family name was given as Ute (Mai1798:Lw36). Uder, Thueringen: see Audra. UebeleFN: see Ibele. Ueberau-bei-ReinheimGL, [Hessen-Darmstadt Landgraviate?]: is 1 mile SE of Reinheim and was home to the Stukert who settled and died in Schwab (Gieg1). UeberlingenGL: is some 7 miles N of Konstanz, Switzerland, and said by the Mariental FSL to be homeUC to a Berger family. UeckermuendeGL, Preussisch Pommern: is some 89 miles NNE of Berlin, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and said by the Kratzke FSL to be homeUC to a Kratzke family. UelsFN: see Ils. Uelbesheim: see Ilvesheim. UendveisenGL, Hesse-Darmstadt: an unidentified place, said by the Walter FSL to be homeUC to a _eman family. The Walter Research Project suggested that this might be Unterweissenborn, Hessen, but that seems too far N and E to have been Hessen-Darmstadt … Uffhofen, Kurpfalz: is 7 km NW of Alzey city and was said by the Straub FSL to be homeUC to a Frieck family. Ufoborn?, Kurpfalz: an unidentified place said by the Straub FSL to be homeUC to a Zahn family. UhlFN: said by the Boregard FSL to be fromUC Hoegen. UhlFN{Friedrich}: said by the Warenburg FSL (#78) to be fromUC Pansenheim?, Wuerttemberg [Duchy]. For 1798 see Mai1798:Wr53 and 56. Uhl/Utz FN{Josef/Joseph}: FromUC Steinbach, Baden-Durlach Landgraviate arrived at Flensburg, Schleswig Royal Duchy in June 1762 (EEE p.627). KS161 has {Joseph}. In April 1763 Uhl married the widow Utz(p.629). Her name was {Christina Barbara} (p.627). Later that year they deserted Denmark (EEE pp. 627 & 629). By April 1765 they were settled at Dobrinka FSL #52 under the name of Utz{Joseph & Christina}; that FSL said he was from Schneimet(?), Schwaben. Uhl{Joseph}: KS:82 and 161 say this party of 3 fromUC Winterberg (which Stumpp noted was in Westfalen) in 1764 was sent on to the Saratov area as part of the group of colonists transported under the command of Captain Paykul and Cornet Rehbinder. I have not found them in any published FSL, unless they are the preceding entry. UhlFN: also see Ohl. Uhlemann{Johanna Christina}: in Rosslau 8 April 1766 married Gorioce{Samuel}. (Mai&Marquardt#915). KS161 by mistake has 1765. KS131 says he was 23and she was 24, and the year was 1765 (sic). I did not find them in any published FSL. Uhlermann{J.Gottfriedt}: married Lehmann{Johanna Sophia} 6 April 1766 in Rosslau (Mai&Marquardt#898). KS130 says the year was 1765. I did not find them in any published FSL or in Mai1798. Uhlebuell: is 38 km due W of Flensburg. UhlmanFN, see Uhlmann. Uhlmann/Uhlman(?)FN: said by the Preuss FSL to be fromUC Baerenbach, Kurmainz. Later may have been spelled Uhlman. UhlmannFN: said by the Preuss FSL to be fromUC Dernbach, Kurmainz. UhrFN: this family name was found recorded in Kirburg marriage records 1762-1767; see Flegel trip. UldenGS: an unidentified German state; see Muenster, Ulden. UldrenFN: said by the Rosenheim FSL to be the maiden name of frau Schmerbeck. UlfaGL, Nidda Amt, Hessen-Darmstadt [Landgraviate]: is 12 miles NNE of Buedingen and 3 miles N of Nidda, Hesse. Said by the Frank FSL, to be homeUC to a Luft family. Said by the Pleve and Kromm versions of the Jagodnaja Poljana FSL to be homeUC to a Kles family, although the Pleve version does not mention Nidda and indicates Ulfa was near Buedingen. Said by the Stumpp version of the Jagodnaja Poljana FSL to be homeUC to a Koch family. Ulff GL, [Hessen-Darmstadt Landgraviate]: now called Ulfa, is 5 km N of Nidda town and was said by the Buedingen ML to be homeUC to the Rohn woman who in 1766 married Schmidt{Christian} in Buedingen (Mai&Marquardt#542). They may have settled in Brabander. Ulitz?FN: said by the Neidermonjou FSL to be fromUC Berlin. I could not find this man in the 1798 censuses. Ullrich: filed amongst the Ulrich. UlmFN: see Ilig. UlmGL, Bavaria (after 1803), then Wuerttemberg (after 1810): the city is now in Baden-Wuerttemberg some 44 miles SE of Stuttgart Stuttgart at the junction of the Blau and Danube Rivers. According to Remmick: “Many uber schachtel [wood boats] carried German emigrants on the Danube to the frontiers of Austria-Hungary and later to Russia.... [including] the Pfaff family who migrated to Torschau / Batschka in Austria-Hungary and later to Worms, Odessa, S. Russia with Duc de Richelieu. ...” Ulm(?)GL, [Solms-]Braunfels [Principality] is some 6 miles NW of Braunfels city, and said by the Kukkus FSL to be homeUC to a Weber family. Ulm near Wetzlar: Christ{Peter} was said by KS124 to have left fromUC here. This must have been the same place as in the preceding entry. I could not find him in any published FSL or in Mai1798. Ulm [Imperial City?]: Said by the the Rohleder FSL to be homeUC to an Ertel family and to frau Frank. There is always the possiblity this was one of the other two Ulm countries. UlmGS (Schwaben): was the short name of three different countries in the Swabian area in the 1760’s: Ulm Barony, Ulm Imperial City, and the von Ulm Barony. I do not see any way to identify which is which in the FSL although most references are probably to the lands of the Imperial City. None of the following references mention any locality. Ulm BaronyGS: was a very small barony due W of Tuebingen city and due N of Rottenburg town with a tiny outpost on Lake Constance, half-way between Constance city and Schaffhausen city. Ulm Imperial CityGS: starting in 1155 it was the only large Ulm state with broad lands around the city proper stretching NE beyond Langenau and more than 20 miles NW to beyond Geislingen, encompassing many villages and towns. Mastakouri Department of Empirical Inference Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems Tübingen, Germany [email protected] Bernhard Schölkopf Department of Empirical Inference Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems Tübingen, Germany [email protected] Abstract In this work, we study the causal relations among German regions in terms of the spread of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, taking into account the restriction policies that were applied by the different federal states. We propose and prove a new theorem for a causal feature selection method for time series data, robust to latent confounders, which we subsequently apply on Covid-19 case numbers. We present findings about the spread of the virus in Germany and the causal impact of restriction measures, discussing the role of various policies in containing the spread. Since our results are based on rather limited target time series (only the numbers of reported cases), care should be exercised in interpreting them. However, it is encouraging that already such limited data seems to contain causal signals. University College, London 2001 * 1W ) 2 ABSTRACT This thesis examines the experiences of the labouring poor who were suffering from chronic physical illnesses in the early modern period. Despite the popularity of institutional history among medical historians, the experiences of the sick poor themselves have hitherto been sorely neglected. Research into the motivation of the sick poor to petition for a place in a hospital to date has stemmed from a reliance upon administrative or statistical sources, such as patient lists. An over-reliance upon such documentation omits an awareness of the 'voice of the poor', and of their experiences of the realities of living with a chronic ailment. Research focusing upon the early modern period has been largely silent with regards to the specific ways in which a prospective patient viewed a hospital, and to the point in a sick person's life in which they would apply for admission into such an institution. This thesis hopes to rectif,r such a bias. Research for this thesis has centred on surviving pauper petitions, written by and on behalf of the rural labouring poor who sought admission into two territorial hospitals in Hesse, Germany. This study will examine the establishment of these hospitals at the onset of the Reformation, and will chart their history throughout the early modern period. Bureaucratic and administrative documentation will be contrasted to the pauper petitions to gain a wider and more nuanced view of the place of these hospitals within society.

Februar 2011 | ste Integration als Aufgabe der Vereine Diskussion: Gesprächsfrühstück in Pfungstadt - „Wir werden älter und bunter“ PFUNGSTADT. Ist die Integration durch das Ehrenamt eine Herausforderung für die Vereine? Mit dieser Frage beschäftigte sich beim Gesprächsfrühstück in der Säulenhalle des Pfungstädter Rathauses eine Runde von Vereinsvertretern. Gastgeber waren die Landtagsabgeordnete Heike Hofmann (SPD) und der SPD-Unterbezirk Darmstadt-Dieburg. Geladen waren vor allem Vereinsvertreter aus dem Westteil des Landkreises. Angestoßen hatte diese Veranstaltung Erko Kalac, der Integrationsbeauftragte der Deutschen Olympischen Gesellschaft und Gründer des Kampfsportvereins Lotus Eppertshausen, einem Beispiel für geglückte Integration durch Sport. Im Hinblick auf die Tatsache, dass knapp 20 Prozent der Bevölkerung einen Migrationshintergrund haben, sei die Zahl von rund 2,6 Millionen engagierter Menschen aus diesem Kreis in Sportvereinen eher klein, merkte Hofmann am Rand der Veranstaltung an. Unter den Migranten engagierten sich nur wenige Frauen und ältere Menschen im Sport. Das sei ein Potenzial, das man ansprechen wolle. Moderator war Ralf-Rainer Klatt, Sportberater der Stadt Darmstadt und Vizepräsident des Landessportbundes. Seine Gesprächspartner waren Margit Becker-Hillemann, Vorsitzende der FTG Pfungstadt und Kommunalpolitikerin sowie Martina Vetter, Abteilungsleiterin Hapkido beim TuS Griesheim und Harald Bott, der Vorsitzende der HSG Weiterstadt/Büttelborn. Bevor sie bei Frühstücksatmosphäre ihre Erfahrungen und Ideen austauschten, gab Landrat Klaus Peter Schellhaas eine Skizze des Landkreises. Er führte vor Augen, dass mehr als 30 Prozent der Kreisbewohner einen Migrationshintergrund hätten und verwies auf die demografische Entwicklung. „Wir werden älter und bunter“, sagte er. Schellhaas verwies darauf, dass der Landkreis inzwischen eine Stabsstelle Integration eingerichtet habe, die den Vereinen als Ansprechpartner zur Verfügung stehe.

The scientific community often considers low flow as a consequence of drought. However, when observing low flow, catchment processes play an important role alongside precipitation shortages. Therefore, it is crucial to not neglect the role of catchment characteristics. This paper seeks to investigate low flow and drought in an integrative catchment approach by observing the historical development of low flows and drought in a typical German low mountain range basin in the federal state of Hesse for the period 1980 to 2018. A trend analysis of drought and low flow indices was conducted and the results were analyzed with respect to the characteristics of the Gersprenz catchment and its subbasin, the Fischbach. It was shown that catchments comprising characteristics that are likely to evoke low flow are probably more likely to experience short-term, seasonal low flow events, while catchments incorporating characteristics that are more robust towards fluctuations of water availability will show long-term sensitivities towards meteorological trends. This study emphasizes the importance of small-scale effects when dealing with low flow events.
