Moths of Poole Harbour is a project of Birds of Poole Harbour Moths of Poole Harbour Species List Birds of Poole Harbour & Moths of Poole Harbour recording area The Moths of Poole Harbour Project The ‘Moths of Poole Harbour’ project (MoPH) was established in 2017 to gain knowledge of moth species occurring in Poole Harbour, Dorset, their distribution, abundance and to some extent, their habitat requirements. The study area uses the same boundaries as the Birds of Poole Harbour (BoPH) project. Abigail Gibbs and Chris Thain, previous Wardens on Brownsea Island for Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT), were invited by BoPH to undertake a study of moths in the Poole Harbour recording area. This is an area of some 175 square kilometres stretching from Corfe Castle in the south to Canford Heath in the north of the conurbation and west as far as Wareham. 4 moth traps were purchased for the project; 3 Mercury Vapour (MV) Robinson traps with 50m extension cables and one Actinic, Ultra-violet (UV) portable Heath trap running from a rechargeable battery. This was the capability that was deployed on most of the ensuing 327 nights of trapping. Locations were selected using a number of criteria: Habitat, accessibility, existing knowledge (previously well-recorded sites were generally not included), potential for repeat visits, site security and potential for public engagement. Field work commenced from late July 2017 and continued until October. Generally, in the years 2018 – 2020 trapping field work began in March/ April and ran on until late October or early November, stopping at the first frost. -

Attraktive und bunte Schmetterlingsarten sind selbst in den Tropen besser erforscht als die mitteleuropäischen Blütenspanner. Unscheinbare Nachtschmetterlinge hingegen, wurden sicherlich auch früher wegen der Determinationsprobleme nicht von allen Entomologen rich tig und vollständig erfasst. Bei den Blütenspannern kommt noch erschwerend hinzu, dass selbst soeben geschlüpfte Ima gines oft schwer zu determinieren sind, von stark abgeflogenen ganz zu schweigen. Sie be reiten auch erfahrenen Spezialisten so manches Problem. Vielfach hilft dann nur noch die Ge nitalanalyse. So werden auch heute noch beim Beobachten von Nachtschmetterlingen die Blüter spanner meist vernachlässigt. In vielen Fundortkarteien und Faunenverzeichnissen feh len dann die Arten, die nicht sicher angesprochen wurden. Oder, was viel schlimmer ist, Da ten von Fehlbestimmungen wandern in die Kartei und verbleiben dort. Oftmals fehlt der dazu gehörige Falter in der Sammlung, weil er für diese nicht schön genug war. Wer will dann später beurteilen können, ob dieser Fund echt war? Bei manchem Beobachter ist es nicht Stand der Arbeitstechnik, Genitaldiagnosen durchzuführen. Auch fehlen häufig Daten von Imagines, weil bestimmte Arten nur selten oder gar nicht am Licht erscheinen, obwohl sie Vorkommen. -

A Magyar Természettudományi Múzeum Kárpát-medencei Eupitheciini-gyűjteményét újra rendeztük. A régebbi törzsgyűjteményből és a beosztatlan anyagból összesen 81 faj 16571 példá- nya került elő, melyek mindegyikét meghatároztuk vagy határozását ellenőriztük, egyedi katalógus- számmal láttuk el, és adataikat adatbázisban rögzítettük. Külön felsoroljuk a példányok gyűjtőit. A tételes lelőhelyadatokat közöljük, továbbá minden faj lelőhelyeit ponttérképeken is ábrázoljuk. Rövid, határozást segítő diagnózist adunk mindegyik fajhoz, továbbá hivatkozunk a főbb magyar nyelvű ösz- szefoglaló faunisztikai művekben, illetve határozókönyvekben történő említésükre. Áttekintjük a mú- zeum gyűjteményében őrzött típuspéldányokat (13 taxon 54 példánya). Therefore, it appears as a wise bet-hedging strategy to manage reserves in diverse and patchy manners. Using portable light traps, we surveyed the effects of two contrasting management options, mowing and temporary abandonment, applied in a humid grassland reserve in a submountain area of the Czech Republic. Besides of Macrolepidoptera, we also surveyed Microlepidoptera, small moths rarely considered in community studies. Numbers of individiuals and species were similar in the two treatments, but ordionation analyses showed that catches originating from these two treatments differed in species composition, management alone explaining ca 30 per cent of variation both for all moths and if split to Marcolepidoptera and Microlepidoptera. Whereas a majority of macrolepidopteran humid grassland specialists preferred unmown sections or displayed no association with management, microlepidopteran humid grassland specialists contained equal representation of species inclining towards mown and unmown sections. We thus revealed that even mown section may host valuable species; an observation which would not have been detected had we considered Macrolepidoptera only. -

Romagna, 49: 67-114 (giugno 2019) ISSN 1123-6787 Gabriele Fiumi & Guido Govi Contributo alla conoscenza e distribuzione della sottofamiglia Larentinae, tribù Eupitheciini, in Romagna (Insecta: Lepidoptera: Geometridae: Larentinae: Eupitheciini) Abstract [A contribution to the knowledge and distribution of the subfamily Larentinae, tribus Eupitheciini, in Romagna (Insecta: Lepidoptera: Geometridae: Larentinae: Eupitheciini)] In this paper the biogeographic knowledge for Romagna of the tribe Eupitheciini (Geometridae, Larentinae) is updated. 48 species are recorded from the area. For each of them distributional data, general remarks and faunistic observations are supplied. Eupithecia pyreneata Mabille 1871, E. unedonata Mabille, 1868 and E. satyrata (Hübner, 1813) are recorded for the first time from Romagna. Furthermore, the presence in Romagna of Pasiphila debiliata (Hübner, 1817) is confirmed: all previous records of the species from this area were due to misidentifications. Riassunto Il presente lavoro aggiorna le conoscenze biogeografiche sulla tribù Eupitheciini (Geometridae, Larentinae) che conta in Romagna 48 specie di cui si riportano i dati distribuzione, oltre a notizie generali ed a considerazioni faunistiche. Sono citate per la prima volta per la Romagna Eupithecia pyreneata Mabille 1871, E. unedonata Mabille, 1868, E. satyrata (Hübner, 1813). Viene inoltre confermata la presenza in Romagna di Pasiphila debiliata (Hübner, 1817), specie per la quale le precedenti citazioni per la Romagna erano dovute ad errore di determinazione. Introduzione Gli autori svolgono ricerche sulla Lepidotterofauna della Romagna geografica da oltre 40 anni. I risultati di questa lunga attività sono stati esposti in diversi contributi fra cui si segnalano fra i primi “I Macrolepidotteri.
