20 Summer Teaching Positions: English Communication Instructors to Teach at Huazhong Agricultural University in (July 11 - 29, 2016)

The Huazhong Agricultural University Summer English Communication Program (HZAUSECP) is looking for 20 instructors to teach English communication in culture for three weeks from July 11 to 29, 2016. The leadership team for this exciting new program worked on the Summer Intensive English Program and HZAUSECP for 11 years, training over 6000 students at Wuhan University and Huazhong Agricultural University and taking over 200 U.S. teachers to . University and Students: Located in Wuhan, the biggest city and transportation hub of Central China, Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) is a national key university of “” directly under the Ministry of Education. Founded in 1898, HZAU enjoys a history of 117 years. Its campus covers an area of 495 hectares, contains well-spaced teaching blocks and lab buildings and is surrounded on three sides by clear lakes and backed by green hills, making it an ideal place for teaching. The students of the summer program are selected undergraduates.

Objectives: To provide intensive English communication and American culture instruction for highly selected HZAU students with the following goals: 1) to improve students' proficiency to communicate with native speakers in the target cultural environment; 2) to implement quality education on American cultural topics; 3) to provide a meaningful, communicative, performance-based learning experience for students; 4) to assist the Chinese English teachers in their English education reform.

Qualifications: 1) Excellent proficiency in English; 2) Master’s degree or current enrollment in graduate program in TESOL or related discipline; 3) Classroom teaching experience required, preferably at the college level;

Dates: Teaching: Monday July 11th – Friday July 29, 2016 with the pre-program activities, the whole program will be from July 5th to July 30, 2016: July 5, departure for July 6, arrival in Beijing July 7-8, pre-program activities in Beijing July 9, arrival at HZAU July 11, class starts July 23, workshop or conference July 29, closing ceremony July 30, leave HZAU

There will be another summer program after the HZAUSECP, starting from August 1 to August 19, 2016. If you can teach both programs, please let us know in your cover letter.

Job Duties: 1) Teach intensive English courses five hours per day Mondays – Fridays for three weeks; 2) Organize and participate in extracurricular activities, such as movie nights, poetry group, drama club, dance nights, wiffleball games, etc. 3) Participate in a teacher training program before departure for China (time and venue TBA); 4) Contribute to and participate in the workshop or conference on July 23

Compensation: 1) International round-trip airfare and airport pick-up; 2) Two-day activities in Beijing provided by HZAU; 3) Campus accommodation and meals covered; 4) Stipend: from RMB 3,000 to 4,500 (roughly, US$500 to $700), depending on qualifications.

The cover letter should address your commitment to communicative interactive language teaching and the skills and attributes you can contribute to this program, especially any ideas you might have for classroom and extracurricular activities. For example, in previous years, teachers initiated many activities such as campfire, poetry group, drama club, dance nights, and twice weekly wiffleball games. There is considerable opportunity during the program for teachers to create extracurricular groups so please share your ideas in a detailed cover letter which will be viewed as a true expression of your interest in this program. Because there may be an opportunity to teach for three weeks at another university after this program, please let us know if you can teach two programs.
