A recent research, done by Centro Studi Turistici (Tourism Studies Centre) of Florence, has shown that over 7000 Destination Weddings have taken place in Italy in 2015 alone and the upward trend is continuing. Let’s then try and picture an underwater wedding taking place under the sea in front of Locri, an ancient town in Calabria once part of the “Magna Grecia”: the emotion of promising each other eternal love immersed in a dreamlike scenery with a marine backdrop. The couple who wishes to enshrine their union in a more spiritual fashion will have the possibility to get married under the imposing underwater statue of Padre Pio, off the coast of Capraia. The more traditionalist couples, who value traditions like rice throwing, won’t have to set aside their dreams either.
