Bösendorfer Marquetry Series of Grand Pianos Inspired By 18th Century Vienna ANAHEIM, Calif.— Yamaha will unveil the first design of Bösendorfer’s new Marquetry Series of Grand Pianos, the limited edition Model 200 SP “Hummingbirds”, in its premium piano room at the 2013 NAMM Show.

Marquetry is the use of many pieces of different types of wood veneer to create images and has long been viewed a symbol of wealth. Many fine examples of marquetry can be found in the Imperial Palaces of Vienna, including the Schoenbrunn Palace, the summer residence of The Austrian Habsburg Imperial Family. While many historical pianos have included marquetry designs, they have seldom been re-envisioned for the 21st Century.

The Austrian Habsburg Imperial Family was delighted by exotic images of nature, covering the walls of their intimate music room with wonderful jungle scenes. The Palace, outfitted with a suite of rooms featuring exotic garden panoramas commissioned by Maria Theresa and hand painted by the celebrated 18th Century Bohemian Ornamentalist painter Johan Wenzel Bergl, played host to six-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who performed for the Empress Maria Theresa at Schoenbrunn.

“Our Model 200 SP “Hummingbirds” pay tribute to 18th Century imperial grandeur,” said Ed Bezursik, Yamaha Acoustic Piano Marketing Manager/ Bösendorfer North American Marketing Manager. “This contemporary reinterpretation of traditional images of nature is combined with the finest sound and touch.”

2 Bösendorfer 200DE3 Performance Reproducing Piano Showcased in Yamaha Premium Piano Room at The 2013 NAMM Show -Exquisite Piano Offers New, High-End Performance Reproduction Capabilities-

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Yamaha is pleased to display the Bösendorfer 200DE3 at the 2013 NAMM Show in the Yamaha premium piano room at the Anaheim Marriott. The 200DE3 is the first non-Yamaha piano to feature the company's award-winning Disklavier performance reproducing technology, which is integrated inside the new model as part of its meticulous, handcrafted manufacturing process.

The Bösendorfer 200DE3 derives from the vaunted Bösendorfer 200, which has enjoyed enormous popularity with music schools and professional teachers at conservatories for over 50 years. Its compact size makes it equally at home in private spaces. The model features the famous, rich and moving Bösendorfer sound, along with superior quality workmanship and optimal use of materials to create lasting value and the best sound possible.

“This is the first time that we have extended the Disklavier system to another manufacturer's name, and in this case it enhances both brands," said Mark Anderson, Marketing Director, Yamaha Keyboard Division.

"Because consumers are confident in the reliability and performance capability of the Disklavier technology and in Yamaha pianos, they will perceive an enhanced value for the Bösendorfer 200DE3, which embodies Yamaha's commitment to upholding the Bösendorfer legacy while adding sophisticated technological enhancements offering many practical benefits," added Anderson.

By keeping Bösendorfer's brand integrity intact and adding an advantageous performance reproduction system that only Disklavier technology can bring, Yamaha has created the perfect

3 complement to Yamaha's high-end Disklavier piano line. Faculty and students at top colleges and music conservatories will appreciate the expanded capabilities that this reproducing technology provides, including the ability to conduct remote lessons and master classes on pianos networked over the internet, which virtually eliminates geographical boundaries between teacher and student.

A great piano like Bösendorfer is a logical place to expand Disklavier technology from its role of enhancing the capacity of quality Yamaha pianos. For almost a quarter century, the award- winning Disklavier performance reproducing piano systems have combined old-world craftsmanship with a range of 21st century features. Disklavier offers a sophisticated, whisper- soft playback system that turns any room into a concert hall. Special music CDs ship with the system, so it's possible to start enjoying content as soon as the Bösendorfer 200DE3 is delivered. The built-in Disklavier system further expands the Bösendorfer's capabilities by offering remote control operation along with USB recording and playback. The DisklavierRadio function offers uninterrupted streams of music over 11 different channels delivering classical, jazz, pop and other styles. The unit comes with ample storage space so users can document and share their own performances.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — of America, Keyboard Division, continues to expand features of its remarkable Arius line of digital pianos, with the new YDP-142 and YDP-162. These new Arius models, which will be unveiled at the 2013 NAMM Show, offer users a digital alternative to an acoustic upright piano for the home and are suitable for pianists ranging from beginner to intermediate, respectively.

“The USB HOST port brings these Arius models into a new level of connectivity,” said Dane Madsen, Yamaha Digital Piano Marketing Manager. “Yamaha apps like Piano Diary, NoteStar and Visual Performer make for a fun pairing with the optional iUX1 iPad cable. Now you can learn, record, share and see your music in ways that were unthinkable just a few years ago.”

The new Arius YDP-162 and YDP-142 digital pianos provide authentic piano touch and tone fit for pianists and aspiring pianists alike. The Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) action of the YDP- 142 builds proper fingering technique for an easy transition to playing on acoustic pianos, while PureCF sampling delivers expressive recordings of Yamaha’s CFIIIS 9-foot concert grand piano, a first for the Arius line.

5 Using a special design and position within the instrument, the Acoustic Optimizer physically adjusts the acoustical flow, which controls resonances and enriches the overall sound. Available in either rosewood or black walnut finishes, customers can choose between the Arius YDP-142’s 32” cabinet or the taller 33” cabinet of the more upright YDP-162. Additionally, both models feature Duo Mode, which splits the keyboard into two 44-note keyboards each with their own middle-C, perfect for side-by-side or group practice environments.

The GH action with Synthetic Ivory Keytops, available with the YDP-162, gives players that classical piano touch and provides a moisture-absorbing surface for sustainable comfort during extended playing sessions. .

Both the Arius YDP-142 and YDP-162 will debut at Winter NAMM 2013 and are available at an MSRP of $1,499.00 MSRP and $1,999.00 respectively.

6 Stylishly Affordable: Yamaha Launches Popular b Series Acoustic and ‘Silent’ Upright Pianos In the United States —Stunning Silent b2 and b3 Models Join Recently Launched b1 at The 2013 NAMM Show—

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Yamaha Corporation of America announces the United States debut of the b Series Upright Pianos, the most affordable instruments in Yamaha’s acoustic piano line. A favorite in Japanese and European households for years, the recently launched Continental style b1 is designed for maximum performance, incorporating exceptional craftsmanship, space- conscious design and high-quality sound at a wallet-friendly price.

According to Yamaha Acoustic Piano Marketing Manager Ed Bezursik, the U.S. market is primed for the b Series’ winning combination of looks, value and quality. “The market has demanded a good, affordable piano with an authentic touch that provides novices and experienced pianists the opportunity to grow," said Bezursik. "The new Yamaha b Series meets this demand with style, offering exceptional sound quality and superior materials.”

Available in both traditional acoustic and “Silent” models, the Series offers a sturdy contemporary design that features back posts for added strength, while the specially designed soundboard and high-grade hammers endow the b1 with an unrivalled richness and sound depth for a 43” piano. Yamaha’s renowned, pure, clear tone and easy to play, responsive keyboard touch make this upright perfect for beginning piano students.

Ideal for small spaces, the b1 Continental upright measures 43” high with a width and depth of 58 ¼ ” and 21 ¼,” respectively. At 45” high, the b2 offers a larger, more traditional case with the same width and depth of the b1. The b3 model is a full 48” high upright, with a width of 59 1/4" and a depth of 24 1/4".

7 Seasoned specifically for the U.S. market, the b Series features a laminated soundboard that minimizes soundboard cracking. Yamaha reinforces the crown of its soundboard to ensure that the tone quality will remain consistent for years.

Yamaha’s patented Extruded Aluminum Alloy Action Rail eliminates the common fluctuations in wood and metal encased rails that affect touch, thus allowing for a more stable, long-lasting action regulation. Yamaha only uses select Spruce for the keys on all models of pianos. Like all Yamaha pianos, the b Series offers Uniform Key Travel to ensure that regardless of size, type or model, Yamaha keyboards will always feel the same.

Finally, the b Series offers a Balanced Action. Each key of a Yamaha piano is individually weighted, allowing all keys to play uniformly, ensuring a lifetime of superior touch and control across the entire keyboard.

Additional products in the line – the b2 and b3 – will make their debut at the Winter NAMM 2013 trade show in Anaheim, California. Available in an elegant polished ebony finish, the b1 upright carries an MSRP of $4,499. The b2 and b3 models are priced at $5,999 and $7,499, respectively.

10 Yamaha Displays CX Series of Grand Pianos at the 2013 NAMM Show ANAHEIM, Calif. – In conjunction with its 125th Anniversary, Yamaha Corporation has launched the remarkable new CX Series acoustic grand pianos, which will be on display at the 2013 NAMM Show. Replacing its professional quality “C Series” pianos worldwide, the CX Series includes six models, ranging from the diminutive C1X to the C7X semi-concert grand. Characterized as “pianos that truly sing,” these exquisite instruments embody many features of the CFX Concert Grand Piano.

In October 2012, Yamaha marked the beginning of the 125th anniversary year of the Company’s operations, founded under the leadership of in 1887. This also marks the 110th year since Yamaha began to manufacture world-class grand pianos. Yamaha manufactures a broad selection of piano models ranging from the CFX full-sized concert grand piano intended for large concert halls and other venues to smaller-sized models more suited for the home.

At the Kakegawa piano factory, Yamaha combines traditional crafting skills with the latest technologies to manufacture the models in this new series. Yamaha also conducts continual research and development towards the goal of creating pianos that are not only mechanically perfect, but also superb, top-quality musical instruments.

The new CX Series improves on the very successful C Series, launched in 1967. Yamaha has drawn on the technology developed for creating the CFX, introduced in 2010, and these models incorporate Yamaha’s expertise in piano craftsmanship. The C3X and higher models in the series are equipped with soundboards based on the soundboard technology of the CFX, and to project a richer resonance, the dimensions and the design of the back posts have also* been changed. To create further expressiveness, the music wires and hammers have also* been improved. The

11 sleek, sophisticated external design of the CX Series was also influenced by the appearance of the CFX.

The CX Series builds on the legacy of “pianos that truly sing,” the concept Yamaha pursued when developing the CFX. Just as the sounds made by a great singer reverberate throughout his or her body, so do the rich resonances that are projected when the vibration of the strings is transmitted to the soundboard. Added to this is an unparalleled ability for changing musical nuances, which gives the CX Series pianos their outstanding expressiveness. The dimensions of the back frame of the piano, where the entire tensile force of the piano comes together, have been made more than 20 percent thicker than in previous models.

Music wires made in Europe, which have distinctive sustained overtones, have been* used in the CX Series, thus giving these instruments a wide, natural resonance with rich overtones. The CX Series also features a superior grade of hammer felts, similar to those used in the CFX.

Yamaha developed and launched its first C Series grand piano model in 1967 with the goal of offering a professional-quality grand piano for both the home and studio. The C Series embodied the highest quality and also incorporated all of Yamaha’s piano building expertise acquired during the development of high-level concert grand pianos. They were created by combining the best of manufacturing technology together with the skills of experienced artisans. Though there have been model changes and offshoots of new models in the C Series, these pianos have been* some of the most popular instruments ever made for much of their 45-year history.

In 2010, Yamaha unveiled their new flagship model full-sized concert grand piano, the CFX, which was created using new design methods. The deep resonance of its tone has been acclaimed around the world. That same year, the gold prize winner of the International Chopin Piano Competition and in 2011 the winner of the silver medal at the International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition both performed on the CFX.

16 Yamaha Celebrates Its Award-Winning Hybrid Piano Line at 2013 NAMM Show —Recent Musical Merchandise Review (MMR) ‘Product of the Year’ Award for AvantGrand Set Up Strong Start for 2013—

ANAHEIM, Calif.— At the 2013 NAMM Show, Yamaha Corporation of America, Keyboard Division, celebrates Yamaha Corporation’s 125th anniversary, the enthusiastic consumer and trade acceptance of its NU1 upright hybrid piano, as well as the company’s second straight Musical Merchandise Review (MMR) 2012 “Product of the Year” award for its AvantGrand line. The company sees these developments as a strong starting point for the new year.

In June, Yamaha began shipping its NU1 upright hybrid piano, the world’s first digital/acoustic hybrid piano to combine an authentic upright action with a remarkable Yamaha concert grand piano sound sample. The model leverages the industry’s most innovative digital technology to deliver the sound of a concert grand, and the feel of an exceptional upright, at a fraction of the size and cost.

“Our NU1, as well as our market-leading AvantGrand line of hybrid pianos, have played a key role in the establishment of the category, offering superior sound reproduction without the tuning, cost or footprint of a comparable stringed instrument,” said Jim Levesque, hybrid piano marketing manager. “The enthusiasm our products generated in the industry and among consumers in 2012 proves that hybrid models have become a ‘go to’ option for serious players who don’t want to settle for a lesser instrument just because they live in smaller spaces or have limited budgets.”

The NU1’s superb upright action – featured in Yamaha’s higher-end upright pianos – is inspired by the legacy of the immensely popular U1 acoustic upright piano, which has maintained its reputation for being a durable, reliable and professional upright for half a century. The NU1’s authentic action is perfectly complemented by its lush sound, sampled from Yamaha’s finest

17 hand-built concert grand piano, the CFX. In addition, the NU1 uses Yamaha’s acoustic technology to reproduce the characteristic resonance felt when playing an acoustic piano.

Housed in a refined, compact cabinet, the NU1 brings the renowned sound of Yamaha to a wide variety of home and institutional settings, including colleges and universities, which historically have favored purchasing the U1 in large quantities for practice facilities. These venues, in particular, can now benefit from NU1’s privacy setting, which enables pianists to practice “silently” using headphones, as well as the fact that the instrument requires no tuning.

The instrument features natural wood keys; five Voices, including a remarkable sound sampled directly from Yamaha’s highly-acclaimed CFX Concert Grand Piano; 50 preset songs; five demo songs; computer connectivity; and a USB Audio Recorder, for archiving performances.

The NU1 carries an MSRP of $5,499.

…And the Winner Is: AvantGrand (Again)

Yamaha’s 2012 MMR “Product of the Year” award for its AvantGrand line marks the company’s unprecedented 12th consecutive win in this category. (Before 2011, the company’s Disklavier line swept the category for the previous ten years.) In addition to the 2012 “Product of the Year” award, MMR also gave AvantGrand top honors in the “Pro Digital Piano Line of the Year.” MMR is a trade publication for the musical instrument and musical services industry.

AvantGrand pianos, which have earned raves from top concert artists such as Chick Corea and Alexander Kobrin, deliver the tone and touch of a nine-foot Yamaha CFIIIS concert grand piano in compact footprints that can easily fit in limited space environments.

18 Yamaha ignited a revolution in the approach to sampling – the recording and playback of the notes of the actual acoustic piano – with its introduction of the AvantGrand. Treating the soundboard not simply as a point source of sound, but as a plane, Yamaha took samples at four positions, adding optimum center and rear locations to the traditional left and right. The end result is that the AvantGrand models recreate the original sound of a Yamaha CFIIIS full concert grand piano almost to perfection.

In addition, the instrument’s speaker system has been designed to ensure that this sound is heard best at the playing position. A three-way system, featuring woofer, mid-range and tweeter speakers reproduce the rich, natural resonance of the soundboard accurately. What’s more, each of the low-, mid-, and high-frequency bands has been given its own amplifier to prevent interference between them. This innovative configuration allows the AvantGrand’s outstanding sound system to reproduce the nuances of each individual note.

21 effects or choosing Styles and perfect for the musician that wants to use the same settings as a specific artist. Users can also create and share their own registrations. Repertoire Finder will be available in February 2013 in the App Store for free download.

Moreover, the Linear Graded Hammer provides an authentic action in which the lower keys are heavy in touch and the higher keys are light, with all the natural gradations in between. All in all, this gives you the performance functions and expressive power found only in grand pianos, including having repeated plays of the same note perfectly articulated, even when playing at high speed or with partial key release.

“With the introduction of the F02, Yamaha’s designers continue to astonish us," states Jim Levesque, MODUS marketing manager, Yamaha Keyboard Division. "With its modern feel, the

24 F02's clean, simple design makes for a refreshing aesthetic. In addition, the updated functionality complements the line’s striking beauty.”

Additionally, the instrument features 50 built-in piano preset songs, including both classic pieces and jazz standards. The preset songs satisfy a variety of listening preferences. For an even wider song selection, simply connect a USB flash memory device to the instrument and your favorite MIDI formatted songs are ready to be played at random or in sequence. Audio files (.wav) saved to a USB flash memory can also be played back on the instrument or on portable music players, enabling the musician to record the MIDI file, easily convert it to Audio, and listen to their performance nearly everywhere.

46 Yamaha Live Custom Drum Set Muscles Through the Mix ⎯New Oak Kit Delivers Powerful Sound, Even on the Loudest Stages ⎯

ANAHEIM, Calif.— introduces the Live Custom drum set, the new generation of renowned Oak Custom kits, at the 2013 NAMM Show. Designed to deliver a massive sound that projects onstage, no matter how loud guitarists turn up their stacks, the Live Custom kit is the only drum set that features 100 percent Oak shells.

Live Custom is the first high-end drum set to come out of a brand new, state-of-the-art Yamaha owned and operated factory. As with all of its drum sets, Yamaha undertook extensive internal research and development, consulting with artists, dealers and consumers to develop this new offering to the Yamaha drum set lineup.

“Oak has always delivered a booming sound, but the slightly thicker Live Custom shell gives the drums even more depth, projection and clarity than the current Oak Custom kit,” said David Jewell, marketing manager, Yamaha Drums.

In addition to sounding great, the new Live Custom kit looks sharp, with black nickel-plated hardware and gorgeous lacquer finishes. The snare drum includes a redesigned throw-off and butt plate with stronger, smoother action. Yamaha considers every detail of every new kit and on the Live Custom, for example, the floor tom leg bracket features a stronger vertical bolt and the bridge design has no adverse effect on the tone. Moreover, the sturdy, lightweight bass drum pipe-clamp mount takes up a lower profile than the previous model.

Several Yamaha Drum Artists got a chance to play and evaluate prototype Live Custom drum sets and raved over the tone and design. “Yamaha’s Live Custom line is the most impressive yet!” said Xavier Muriel, drummer for hard rockers Buckcherry. “This set has looks, exceptional sound and durability beyond compare.”

47 Dafnis Prieto, recipient of a MacArthur Fellow award in 2011, said that the Live Custom oak shells “have a powerful sound” and session ace Oscar Seaton said likened the sound to a “big fat punch.”

Live Custom drum sets (Estimated Street Price: $1,399.99 to $1,799.99) are scheduled to ship February 2013.

ANAHEIM, Calif.—Yamaha Guitars got its start making handcrafted nylon string models in conjunction with some of the top builders in the world and with over 40 years of tradition and innovation, Yamaha became the top-selling classical guitar around the globe. Once again, Yamaha has set its sights on excellence and the result of this dedication and determination culminates in the new GC Series of top-of-the-line classical guitars, which will be introduced at the 2013 NAMM Show.

Expanding to over 10 models, with an estimated retail price of around $700 up to $18,000, these redesigned Grand Concert guitars provide enhanced sound characteristics with a thinner soundboard, new bracing pattern and a thinner finish. The new lineup, which offers handcrafted quality at affordable prices, includes solid Spruce tops for a clear, rich tone and solid Cedar tops, for a darker, warmer sound.

“The new GC line embodies Yamaha’s tradition of innovation, quality and handcrafted perfection in every aspect,” said Dennis Webster, marketing manager, Yamaha Guitars. “From wood selection to build specifications, from start to finish, the new GC Series of classical guitars are our best yet.”
