Situation Update

Nol 1 EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SUMMARY As of 8th November 2020, a total of 1,094 confirmed cases have been recorded including 63 deaths, 14 active cases and 1,020 recoveries in the three states.

BORNO • 1 confirmed case was reported for week 45 and there was no death recorded. 1 patient was discharged.

• 460 samples were collected in week 45 as against 347 in the preceding week.

ADAMAWA • No confirmed case was reported for week 45.

• 54 samples were collected within the week. Total samples pending for testing is 236.

YOBE

• 3 new confirmed cases were reported in week 45. • No COVID-19 related mortality was recorded for 24 consecutive weeks. • 230 samples were collected in week 45, out of which 192 samples tested negative while 35 results are pending.

Coordination • Daily Coordination meetings are held across BAY states. • In Adamawa State, Laboratory Scientists have been paid outstanding allowances, and the strike has been resolved. • WHO, UNICEF and other partners are supporting the Response Teams.

Surveillance • In , 1 confirmed case was reported for week 45, total confirmed cases stand at 748. • 7 contacts are presently being monitored in Borno State, and intra/inter country border screening is still ongoing. • In , the positivity rate for week 45 is 2.0%. 12 additional contacts were line-listed by the contact tracing team. • In Adamawa State, 261 out of 2,419 samples tested are positive, giving a positivity rate of 10.8%. Also, 44% of confirmed cases are known contacts of previously confirmed cases. • 12.6% of confirmed cases in Adamawa State are health workers. • Community case search is ongoing in all locations reporting cases in Borno State, in all high-burden LGAs in Yobe State as well as in Adamawa State.

Laboratory • Cumulative Positivity rate is 6% in Borno State. • A total of 12,391 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Borno State, initial test stands at 12,398 while follow up test Stands at 328. In Adamawa State, 2,656 samples have been tested, 261 are positive and 236 results are pending. • In week 45 in Yobe State, 230 samples were collected for testing.

Case Management • 1 case is presently on admission at UMTH isolation centre in Borno State. 1 patient was discharged at the end of Week 45. • In Yobe State, all the 6 active COVID-19 cases are in stable condition. • In Adamawa State, an assessment team from the Federal Ministry of Health were in the State to assess case management of COVID-19. • 2/19 (12%) deaths occurred in the community with 1 death of a health worker reported. CFR = 7.3%

Point of Entry • 25,184 individuals were screened at 26 PoE locations in Borno State. • In Yobe State, 6,351 passengers were screened at the Points of Entries (PoEs). • 807 persons were screened in Yola International Airport. None was suspected for COVID-19

Infection Prevention and Control • In Borno State, public enlightenment on the use of face mask and hand washing in schools and public places is ongoing. • In Yobe State, the surveillance team, in collaboration with the risk communication team, conducted mass sensitization on COVID-19 prevention in Damaturu central market and motor park

Risk Communication and Social Mobilization • Sensitization of over 54,000 caregivers on COVID-19 continues by UNICEF/WHO in 20 LGAs. Messages focused on voluntary sample testing, timely reporting of cases, de-stigmatization, hand washing, and use of face mask. • In Yobe State, Yobe SMOH teams, in collaboration with WHO HTR teams and AVADAR informants, UNICEF VCMs, and CGPP volunteers conducted mass community sensitization reaching 18,296 people with COVID-19 prevention messages in high-burden LGAs • Motorized Community Sensitization and daily Radio and TV broadcast of jingles are ongoing across different media platforms in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.
