Situation Update

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SUMMARY Nol 1 th As of 6 December 2020, a total of 1,154 confirmed cases have been recorded including 63 deaths, 55 active cases and 1,036 recoveries in the three states. BORNO • Two (2) new cases were confirmed in week 49. No patient was discharged, and cumulative positivity rate is 6%. • 81 samples were collected in week 49, as against 261 samples in the preceding week.

ADAMAWA

• Nine (9) new confirmed cases were reported for week 49. • 12 Pending laboratory results came back positive. • 536 samples were collected within the week as against 487 samples collected in the preceding week.

YOBE • Eight (8) new confirmed cases were reported in week 49.

• Two (2) COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from isolation facilities. • 465 samples were collected in week 49, out of which 344 samples tested negative while 113 results are pending. Coordination • Weekly Coordination meetings are held across BAY states. • WHO, UNICEF and other partners are supporting the Response Teams in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe.

Surveillance • In , 2 new confirmed cases were reported for week 49, total confirmed cases stand at 760. • 38 contacts are presently being monitored in Borno State, and 4,677 persons sensitized in 1,010 households. • In , 15 LGAs of the 17 LGAs (88.2%) have reported at least one confirmed case. • Positivity rate for week 49 in Yobe State is 2.3%. • In Adamawa State, 286 out of 3,495 samples tested are positive, giving a positivity rate of 8.2%. • In Adamawa State, supportive supervision was conducted in NYSC camp to monitor the testing of prospective corps members. • Community case search is ongoing in all locations reporting cases in Borno State, in all high-burden LGAs in Yobe State as well as in Adamawa State.

Laboratory • Cumulative Positivity rate is 6% in Borno State. • A total of 13,594 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in Borno State, initial test stands at 13,327. • In Adamawa State, 938 samples were released from those pending in the laboratory in the preceding week. 9 were positive while 929 were negative. • 154 corps members and 131 staff were screened using rapid test kits at the NYSC Orientation Camp. Of these, 2 staff and 16 corps members tested positive and have been moved to isolation centre and for confirmatory test by PCR. • In week 49 in Yobe State, 465 samples were collected for testing.

Case Management • 6 cases are presently on admission at UMTH isolation centre in Borno State, 6 are in self-isolation. • In Yobe State, 8 confirmed cases have been reported, and 2 patients have recovered in week 49. • In Adamawa State, 13 persons of interest who tested positive using the rapid test kits are in isolation. • 2/19 (12%) deaths occurred in the community with 1 death of a health worker reported. CFR = 7.3%

Point of Entry • 1,577 persons were screened in Yola International Airport as against 1,618 persons screened in the preceding week. None was suspected for COVID-19

Infection Prevention and Control • In Borno State, public enlightenment on the use of face mask and hand washing in schools and public places is ongoing. • In Yobe State, the SMOH and lafiya project, in collaboration with WHO and partners, conducted 2-day capacity building training for 68 LGA health promotion officers on COVID-19 IPC.

Risk Communication and Social Mobilization • COVID-19 prevention messages continued across Borno state. • In Yobe State, Yobe SMOH teams, in collaboration with WHO HTR teams and AVADAR informants, UNICEF VCMs, and CGPP volunteers conducted mass community sensitization reaching 13,711 people with COVID-19 prevention messages in high-burden LGAs. • Motorized Community Sensitization and daily Radio and TV broadcast of jingles are ongoing across different media platforms in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.
