Africa_Intros_2019_UK.indd 2 07/06/2018 10:13 72 years in the making, we introduce you to Africa; trips that we’ve cra ed with firsthand knowledge, heritage, stories and secrets.

It’s the damp scent of acacia trees in the early morning sun, your eyes peeled for the sight of a leopard or lion.

It’s the taste of G&T sundowners with the hippos, on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River.

It’s your view of Umhlanga’s iconic lighthouse from the five-star Oyster Box Hotel; a place that is sprinkled with our own family stories.

It’s embracing endless freedom in the Maasai Mara, the Serengeti and the Kalahari Desert.

It’s coming face-to-face with a lion, visiting local tribes in Namibia and tasting fresh oysters in South Africa’s own Garden of Eden.

It’s realising how very small you are in this world; in this land of great contrasts and soul-stirring wonders.

And, for us, it’s being able to share with you our love of Africa – our iKhaya, or ‘home’. The photos are our own, and from a dear family friend, Mike Myers. The highlights and tips are ours, sprinkled with family memories.

Join us, discover the real thing and just live The Good Life.

Africa_Intros_2019_UK.indd 10 07/06/2018 10:16 MEET MIKE MYERS Travel photographer MIKE MYERS IS AN ICON OF THE BUSH; A GAME RANGER EXTRAORDINAIRE, HIS KNOWLEDGE IS UNPRECEDENTED. A CLOSE FRIEND OF TRAFALGAR AND THE TOLLMAN FAMILY, WE ARE PROUD TO SHARE HIS EXCLUSIVE PHOTOGRAPHS BOTH ON THE COVER AND THROUGHOUT THIS BROCHURE. EACH IMAGE IS MORE THAN JUST MOMENT OF TIME, EACH IS ACCOMPANIED BY A UNIQUE STORY OF A LAND CLOSE TO HIS HEART.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: “The opportunity of having access to some of Africa’s most spectacular wild areas inspired me to capture the landscape and its wildlife on film. I was able to spend every day in the bush and this equipped me with the most valuable tool a wildlife photographer can have – an in depth knowledge of wildlife behaviour.”

Mike shares with us one of his favourite story’s from the heart of Africa:

HYENA AND ZEBRA AT MOMBO “This moment happened pre-sunrise in overcast conditions at Mombo in the Okavango. Terribly poor light conditions, but definitely the kind of o -the-cu moment that challenges a wildlife photographer. It all happened so fast – we first saw the zebra running at full gallop pursued by the clan of hyena, over 10 of them. In the middle of the zebra was a young foal, the target of the hyena – and they are brilliant at this kind of hunting. We chased a er them as best we could and then suddenly they stopped, forming a protective ring around the foal, and in that moment, the hyena were defeated. A kick from a stallion can break a jaw and once they formed the protective ring with their hind legs to the hyena the battle of wills changed in their favour and stopped the hyena in their tracks. It was all over in five very exciting minutes and indelibly printed on my memory.”
