Meet and Greet by your local guide and drive to Windhoek. In the afternoon a short city tour with one overnight in the Elegant Bed and Breakfast or similar. Dinner in a nice restaurant in town – on clients own account. Day 2: After Breakfast we depart from Windhoek and drive via Rehoboth to Mariental and further to the Bagatelle Kalahari Game Reserve. 1 Night in the Bagatelle Game Reserve or similar on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast Basis with a Sundowner Drive in the afternoon. The landscape is characterized by red sand dunes which reach a height of about 15-30 metres and extend over hundreds of kilometres. Chains of dunes run parallel to one another, with considerable distances between them. Now and then pans can be found in the valleys. After good rains they fill up with water but rapidly dry up again. The red crests of the dunes contrast picturesquely with the blue sky above and the yellow grass in the wide dune valleys, while acacias add shades of dark green to the amazing symphony of colours. This magnificent scenery is inhabited by animals like gemsbok, springbok, jackal and bat-eared fox. And speaking of world records again: many camel thorn trees lend support to huge weaver bird nesting colonies - the largest nests on earth. In the dune valleys the heaviest flying bird, the Kori bustard, and the largest flightless bird, the ostrich, are found. Day 3: We depart early from the Bagatelle Game Reserve and drive via Keetmanshoop to the Canyon Lodge. 1 Night in the Canyon Lodge or similar on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast Basis with a Sundowner Drive in the late afternoon. With a length of 650 kilometres the Fish River is the longest river in Namibia. Its source lies in the eastern Naukluft Mountains. South-west of Ai-Ais it flows into the Oranje. The Fish River canyon, situated along the lower reaches of the Fish River, is one of the most impressive natural beauties in the southern part of Namibia. With a depth of up to 550 metres, the Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world. The enormous gorge meanders along a distance of approx. 160 kilometres through the fissured Koubis massif all the way down to Ai-Ais. The canyon starts near Seeheim. It is 161 kilometres long and ends at Ai-Ais. The Fish River Canyon probably formed about 500 million years ago during the pluvial times - a rainy climatic epoch - many millions of years ago. However, the gorge was not only created by water erosion, but also through the collapse of the valley bottom due to movements in the earth's crust. Because the Fish River is being dammed in Hardap near Mariental, it only contains a small amount of running water. In winter, during the dry season, the river bed is often completely dry or reduced to just some puddles here and there. However, after rainfalls in summer the river can become a raging torrent. Day 4: We depart from the Canyon Lodge and drive via Goageb and Aus to Luederitzbucht. Afternoon city tour with places of interest such as Diaz Point, Felsenkirche etc. 1 Night in the Zum Ankerplatz or similar on a Bed and Breakfast Basis. For Dinner the guide can take you to a nice restaurant in town. ( Dinner on clients own account ). The historic Lüderitz has its own special charm, completely different to other coastal towns in Namibia. The rough, diverse and rocky coast serves the town as wonderful scenery. Apart from tourism the most important economy in Lüderitz is still the fishing industry, as well as crayfishing, oysters and perlemon breeding, export of seaweed for the cosmetic industry and of course diamond mining at Elizabeth Bay and in the Atlantic Ocean. For visitors the natural lagoons and the Diaz Point are of special interest. On 25.07.1488 the Portuguese sailor Bartholomeu Diaz landed here, named the bay 'Angra Pequeña' and erected a stone cross (padrão). In 1883 the merchant Adolf Lüderitz from Bremen founded Lüderitz in Angra as first German settlement and the German colony South West Africa developed. In his honour the harbour in the rocky bay was called „Lüderitzbucht“ in 1886. When strolling through the town many, well maintained Jugenstil houses attract attention, like the Görcke House, the Woermann House and the “Felsenkirche” a church situated on the Diamond Hill and visible from far. The main attraction of the region is the former diamond town „Kolmanskop“. Kolmanskop is nowadays the most popular ghost town of Namibia and a highlight to every visit of Southern Namibia. Day 5: After Breakfast we depart to Kolmanskuppe for a guided Tour around this town. It was in 1908 when the first diamond was found. This caused a diamond rush and sparked life in the little town of Kolmanskop. Today this once vibrant town lies at the mercy of the Namib Desert, threatening to engulf the grand buildings. After the tour we drive via Aus to Helmeringhausen to one of the oldest Guest farms in the country. 1 Night in the Namtib Desert Lodge or similar on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast Basis. A Nature Drive on the property in the late afternoon. Day 6: After Breakfast we drive from the Namtib Lodge into the direction of Maltahöhe with a visit to the Duwisib Castle. A castle is the last thing you would expect to see when you drive through the vast farm lands and deserts of Namibia. Duwisib Castle sometimes spelled Duwisib or Duweseb is a grand pseudo- medieval looking fortress in the hills of the semi-arid Southern Namib region of Namibia. It was built by ‘Baron’ Captain Hans Heinrich von Wolf (born in Dresden in 1873), who was posted to the then German South-west Africa. Later von Wolf went home to Dresden and married the step daughter of the US consul, Miss Jayta Humphrey, on the 8th of April 1907. They decided to settle in the South- West Africa and bought 55 000 ha of farm land in total. Eminent architect Wilhelm Sander was commissioned to design a building and construction commenced in 1908. The stand stones used for construction were carried approximately 2 km from the castle. Furniture was imported from Germany and stone masons were hired from Italy, Sweden and Ireland. From the Duwisib Castle we drive further to the Moon Lodge or similar. The Moon Lodge is a Luxury Tented Lodge. 1 Night in the Moon Lodge on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast Basis. Afternoon for Leisure. Day 7: Early morning Departure to the Sossusvlei. Sossusvlei (sometimes written Sossus Vlei) is a salt pan surrounded by high red dunes, located in the southern part of the Namib Desert. The name "Sossusvlei" is often used in an extended meaning to refer to the surrounding area (including other neighbouring vleis such as Dead Vlei and other high dunes), which is one of the major Tourist Attractions of Namibia. The name "Sossusvlei" is of mixed origin and roughly means "dead-end marsh". For Lunch Time we are back at the Lodge. Afternoon at Leisure. 1 Night in the Moon Lodge or similar on a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast Basis. Day 8: After Breakfast we drive from Sossusvlei via Solitaire, the Kuiseb Canyon to Walvis Bay and to Swakopmund. Arrival in Swakopmund in the late afternoon. 1 Night in the Beach Hotel or similar on a Bed and Breakfast Basis. For Dinner the guide can take you to a nice restaurant in town. Dinner on the clients own account. Captain Curt von Francois founded Swakopmund in 1892 as the main harbour for the German colony—the deep sea harbour at Walvis Bay belonged to Britain. The founding date was on August 8 when the crew of gunboat Hyäne ("Hyena") erected two beacons on the shore. Swakopmund was chosen for its availability of fresh water. Swakopmund today is the popular holiday town in Namibia. The good restaurants and tourist attractions make Swakopmund a well known and sought after Holiday destination, not only with Namibians but also with the visitors from overseas. Day 9: At 08:30 in the morning you will be picked up for a Living Dunes Experience. Join us on an extraordinary exploration of the coastal dune belt just outside Swakopmund. To the untrained eye the dunes are just a pile of sand, however our skilled and experience guides will introduce you the a wealth of life. Track Palmato Gecko’s, Sanddiving Lizards, the famous fog- basking Tok-Tokkie beetle, Sidewinder snakes, Spiders, Scorpions and Chameleons. This 3 hour exploration will be rounded of with a short rollercoaster dune drive and a magnificent view overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The afternoon is for the clients own leisure. 1 Night in the Beach Hotel or similar on a Bed and Breakfast Basis. Dinner in a nice restaurant in town. Dinner on the clients own account.
