Your partners in protection June 26-30, 2018 Dear Friends: I am pleased to extend my warmest greetings to everyone attending the 29th International Congress of Applied Psychology 2018. This event brings together industry professionals from over 50 countries to share their knowledge, ideas and experiences. This year’s theme, “Psychology: Connecting Science to Solutions,” speaks to the important relationship between research and practice in the field. I would like to thank the Canadian Psychological Association and the International Association of Applied Psychology for putting together an informative and stimulating program. I am certain that delegates will be inspired by the guest speakers and will benefit from the opportunity to network with stakeholders from around the world. On behalf of the Government of Canada, please accept my best wishes for a productive and enjoyable congress. Sincerely, The Rt. Hon. Justin P.J. Trudeau, P.C., M.P. Philippe Couillard Scientic research contributes greatly to the advancement of our societies, enhancing our quality of life through increasingly advanced and high-performance innovations. Indeed, its role is becoming increasingly crucial in the eld of health, particularly owing to the advancement of medical knowledge and technologies. This is also the case in mental health and psychology, areas in which research has a major role to play, since it contributes to the development of promising treatments and to improving the care and services available to the population. In this regard, I am convinced of the importance of fostering discussion between specialists, both on the research side and on the clinical side, so as to enable the community to benet from the most recent breakthroughs in the eld. This is why I am very proud that the International Congress of Applied Psychology, which is holding its 29th edition, and which Québec is hosting for the rst time since 1974, is taking place in Montréal this year. This event will enable collective reection on the most promising approaches and methods to enhance the well-being of individuals, groups and society, owing to the participation of many internationally renowned specialists. In conclusion, I wish to congratulate the team of the Canadian Psychological Association and MCI Canada for organizing this congress, as well as the International Association of Applied Psychology. Hoping that this international gathering will be an opportunity for very fruitful meetings and collaborations, I wish you all an excellent congress! La Mairesse de Montréal I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the participants of the 29th International Congress of Applied Psychology. I wish to congratulate the International Association of Applied Psychology, as well as the host and organizer of the event, the Canadian Psychological Association in conjunction with MCI Canada, for holding this major congress that will bring together numerous delegates from over 50 countries. This congress is an opportunity for our city to reaffirm its status as a city of knowledge, thanks to all the students, researchers and professionals who will be sharing their expertise, best practices and state-of-the-art developments. I wish you a fruitful alliance between scientists and practitioners, for the advancement of research and for the wellbeing of all those who need help. Creativity is part of Montrealers’ DNA. By sharing their knowledge with one another, participants will seize stimulating opportunities for innovation. I would like to thank you for choosing our open and cosmopolitan city as a hub for research and diversity. On a different note, Montréal is known as a city of festivals. I would like to invite you to take in its cultural bustle, more specifically, at this time, by attending the Montréal International Jazz Festival, one of the greatest of its kind in the world. I wish you a successful Congress and a wonderful stay with us! Valérie Plante Mayor of Montréal Dear Colleagues and Friends, As Co-Presidents of the 29th International Congress of Applied Psychology, we are pleased to welcome you to the Congress. The Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment 2 “Education, academia and research are key issues for Germany’s future. Everyone has the right to a good education. Education policy has the task of creating the conditions for equality of opportunity, parity between different educational path- ways, and access to education at any age and in any circumstances. The research carried out at higher education institutions and research institutes creates knowledge for the future and contributes to economic growth and prosperity. It grapples with the major challenges of tomor- row’s world and seeks answers to urgent questions in close collabora- tion with European and interna- tional partners.” Dr Ernst Dieter Rossmann, SPD Chairman of the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment 3 The German Bundestag’s decisions are prepared by its committees, which are estab- lished at the start of each elec- toral term. Four of them are stipulated by the Basic Law, the German constitution: the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Defence Committee, the Committee on the Affairs of the European Union and the Petitions Committee. The Budget Committee and the Committee for the Rules of Procedure are also required by law. The spheres of respon- sibility of the committees essentially reflect the Federal Government’s distribution of ministerial portfolios. This enables Parliament to scruti- nise the government’s work effectively. The Bundestag committees The German Bundestag sets political priorities of its own by establishing additional committees for specific sub- jects, such as sport, cultural affairs or tourism. In addition, special bodies such as parlia- mentary advisory councils, The committees discuss and committees of inquiry or deliberate on items referred study commissions can also to them by the plenary.
