WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH March 2014 KQED Public Television Programming Highlights

In March, KQED proudly celebrates the diversity of our community with a special programming lineup on KQED 9 and KQED Plus (+).

KQED 9 is available over the air on DT9.1, 54.2 and 25.1 and via most cable systems on Channel 9. It is on XFINITY cable from Comcast (Channel 9, SD, and Channel 709, HD) and on DIRECTV and DISH satellite systems (Channel 9, SD and HD).

KQED Plus is available over the air on Channel 54, DT54.1, 9.2 and 25.2 and via many cable and satellite systems on either channel 10 or 54. It is on XFINITY cable from Comcast (Channel 10, SD, and Channel 710, HD) and on DIRECTV (Channel 54, SD and HD) and DISH (Channel 54, SD only) satellite systems.

This schedule also lists programs airing on KQED Life (Comcast 189, Channel 54.3); and KQED World (Comcast 190, Channel 9.3). Some programs repeat additional times on these two channels. Visit kqed.org/dtv for the complete digital program schedule.

Thursday 13 7am World FRONTLINE Outlawed in Pakistan is a powerful profile of Pakistani teenager Kainat Soomro, who accused four men of gang rape in a society where rape victims and their families are often considered dishonorable and subjected to humiliation, poverty and mortal danger. | R (World) 3/13 1pm

11am World Women, War and Peace Peace Unveiled. When the U.S. troop surge was announced in late 2009, women in Afghanistan knew that the ground was being laid for peace talks with the Taliban. noon World Wings for Maggie Ray pays tribute to the remarkable life and legacy of Margaret "Maggie" Ringenberg (1921-2008), a U.S. Army Air Force WASP (Women's Air Service Pilot) and renowned long-distance aviation racer.

Two Afro- Colombian women fight to stay on their gold-rich lands in Colombia's Pacific southwest. noon World No Job for a Woman: The Women Who Fought to Report World War II When the United States entered the war, American women reporters did not want to miss covering the biggest story of the century so they fought for and won access.

1pm World Women in Chemistry: Life Lessons from the Laboratory profiles eight remarkable women who have made important contributions to the field of chemistry.

Monday 17 8:30am World Best Friends: The Power of Sisterhood celebrates the uniquely powerful bond between women friends.

1pm World POV The World Before Her is a tale of two Indias. In one, Ruhi Singh is a small-town girl competing in Bombay to win the Miss India pageant.
