The Power of Color Try this experiment: Visit your local hardware store and leaf through the paint chip cards. Do the blue shades calm you down? Are you warmed and energized by reds? Do you gravitate toward greens? We are incredibly sensitive to color. In fact, the human eye can detect seven million unique variations, according to a 2014 study published in SAGE Journal, and we’re also sensitive to the mood and feelings that colors can create. Psychologist Ayben Ertem, who researches the effects of color on human behavior, says pink has been shown to be soothing and relaxing. To encourage deeper conversations, she suggests using orange in the dining room. Want to fall asleep more easily? Paint your bedroom pink or purple because those colors have a relaxing effect. Tip: Try adding chopped walnuts, sliced almonds or pine nuts and dried currants, golden raisins or chopped dried apricots. This dish is great at room temperature or chilled.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Brush a baking sheet with olive oil and sprinkle with turmeric. Quarter the cauliflower and leave the core, removing only brown spots and wilted leaves. Grate the cauliflower using a food processor fitted with a grater blade or a box grater. Toss with salt and pepper and spread on the oiled baking sheet and toss to coat with the turmeric and olive oil. Roast the cauliflower for 30–40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes. When the cauliflower is lightly browned and tender, remove from the oven and cool. Meanwhile, chop the parsley and add to a large mixing bowl with the pumpkins seeds and cranberries. Toss with the cooled, roasted cauliflower and serve warm or chilled. Store in the refrigerator. Serves 4. Brush any dirt from mushroom caps and rinse lightly. Whisk the marinade ingredients together in a shallow bowl and brush over mushroom caps. Allow the marinade to soak into the mushrooms while you heat the grill or grill pan. To prepare the sauce, add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth, adjusting seasonings according to your taste. Grill the mushroom caps to sear on each side, and grill until the mushroom is cooked through and softened, about 8–10 minutes. Slice mushroom “steak” and serve with roasted pepper sauce.
