He had already won Acad- emy Awards and Emmys, and had hit radio commercials and three suc- cessful comedy albums (such as The 2000 Year Old Man). He was a veteran of the writing teams for two of the most cherished series of Amer- ican television’s golden age: Your Show of Shows and Caesar’s Hour. Brooks’s recent association with the highly successful sitcom Get Smart had enhanced his visibility with the public and given him additional industry credibility.COPYRIGHTED Although his movie TheMATERIAL Twelve Chairs (1970) had failed to make any tangible impact at the box office, The Producers (1968) was well on its way to becoming a cult favorite. Yet Brooks was now unable to get any new show business projects off the ground and into production. Tim Conway - The Good-Humor man Page 1 of 3 printed from AmericanProfile.com on 4/5/2008 Tim Conway - The Good-Humor man by Paulette Cohn The family room of one of America’s favorite funnymen is paneled in dark, mahogany- stained wood, a stark contrast to the sunny comedy for which the star of McHale’s Navy and The Carol Burnett Show is best known. Even more surprising is the news that Tim Conway bought the wood at the lumber mill, cut and installed the panels, then finished it all by himself. “I have all my fingers,” he quips, wiggling all 10 digits in his house in Encino, Calif. “It’s the sign of a good carpenter.” Conway, 73, traces his handiness with a hammer to high school shop class, one of his favorite subjects because childhood dyslexia made it difficult for him to read. “People thought that I was kidding when I would read out loud in school, so they started laughing,” he recalls. “For instance, the book They Were Expendable, I read as ‘They were expandable.’ People were going, ‘This guy is great! Expandable! What are you talking about, rubber people?’” Conway liked the response. “I thought, ‘I must be funny, so I might as well continue with this.’” Wholesome entertainment His ability to make people smile eventually led him out of Chagrin Falls, Ohio (pop. 4,024), to Hollywood and a successful career on television and in the movies. His early success on McHale’s Navy led to a string of other memorable roles, most notably alongside Carol Burnett; Conway became a vital cog in Burnett’s weekly comedy machine during the 1960s and ’70s. -

‘SURPRISED BY LOVE’ CAST BIOS HILARIE BURTON (Josie) – Growing up in the Theaters of Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia, Hilarie Burton knew early on in childhood that she was an odd bird and that her sanctuary was the stage. Her teen years brought awards and accolades, but it was the bright lights of NYC that became her fixation. Upon high school graduation, Burton promptly moved to the city and two weeks later started her career as one of MTV’s most popular VJ’s. Burton spent five years as a staple on the network, hosting a variety of productions, including MTV’s flagship show “Total Request Live” as well as numerous specials. She earned her footing as a producer when she was granted her own show, “MTV Hits.” From there, Burton got back in touch with her acting roots when she was cast as the lead, Peyton Sawyer, in the CW hit series “One Tree Hill,” which she starred in for six years. During her breaks from the series, Burton gained significant experience in the world of independent film, starring in “Our Very Own” alongside Allison Janney and Jason Ritter, “The List” with Malcolm McDowell, “Normal Adolescent Behavior” which was featured at the Tribeca Film Festival and “Solstice” directed by Dan Myrick of “Blair Witch Project” fame.
