Broadway the BROAD Way”
MEDIA CONTACT: Fred Tracey Marketing/PR Director 760.643.5217 [email protected] Bets Malone Makes Cabaret Debut at ClubM at the Moonlight Amphitheatre on Jan. 13 with One-Woman Show “Broadway the BROAD Way” Download Art Here Vista, CA (January 4, 2018) – Moonlight Amphitheatre’s ClubM opens its 2018 series of cabaret concerts at its intimate indoor venue on Sat., Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. with Bets Malone: Broadway the BROAD Way. Making her cabaret debut, Malone will salute 14 of her favorite Broadway actresses who have been an influence on her during her musical theatre career. The audience will hear selections made famous by Fanny Brice, Carol Burnett, Betty Buckley, Carol Channing, Judy Holliday, Angela Lansbury, Patti LuPone, Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, Liza Minnelli, Bernadette Peters, Barbra Streisand, Elaine Stritch, and Nancy Walker. On making her cabaret debut: “The idea of putting together an original cabaret act where you’re standing on stage for ninety minutes straight has always sounded daunting to me,” Malone said. “I’ve had the idea for this particular cabaret format for a few years. I felt the time was right to challenge myself, and I couldn’t be more proud to debut this cabaret on the very stage that offered me my first musical theatre experience as a nine-year-old in the Moonlight’s very first musical Oliver! directed by Kathy Brombacher.” Malone can relate to the fact that the leading ladies she has chosen to celebrate are all attached to iconic comedic roles. “I learned at a very young age that getting laughs is golden,” she said. -
The Offbeat Off Year
OFFBEAT OFF YEAR BY DOTTY LYNCH, SENIOR POLITICAL EDITOR, CBS NEWS Aunt Gertrude, my 97-year-old aunt in Marlboro, Massachusetts who usually doesn’t skip a beat, looked surprised when I said I was really busy this year on the election. “Oh no, that’s not coming up already, is it,” she asked. At first I thought she was starting to slip. Then I realized that I felt the same way. It seems like we were just counting chads in Florida yesterday. And then September 11 happened and our gyroscopes went out of whack. Campaign 2002 is being fought under the old rules in a world that is very different from the one where those rules made some sense. Democratic campaign consultants say, for the most part, that September 11 hasn’t affected their strategies - and they point to their victories in the 2001 gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey as shining examples of why September 11 shouldn’t matter this year when it didn’t affect races in November 2001. Republican consultants say much the same thing about their campaigns on a micro- level, but the White House has believed for the past year that the national unity which followed the terrorist attacks would work in their favor and give George Bush and the Republicans incredible political capital to spend on the mid-term elections, especially on recapturing the Senate. Karl Rove, the Bush White House political sage, got roundly criticized last winter for suggesting what every political operative knows to be true, that in the aftermath of September 11, the war on terrorism would be a great political asset for the GOP. -
BAHAMAS: the Love Boat's New Chocolate Voyage 02/12/2016

Lauderdale, The Bahamas All aboard for the sweet life with Princess Cruises’ new cocoa temptations. Regal Princess Hurricane season aside, the balmy Caribbean is always enticing, especially during the throes of a chilly USA winter. But Princess Cruises really knocked my thermal socks off when I boarded their newest ship, the huge 3,600passenger Regal Princess, to embark on the maiden voyage of the dramatically expanded “Chocolate Journeys” program. Yep, it’s all about chocolate, 24/7, and it’s the most expansive gourmet desserts program on the ocean. Impressively, the endeavor is spearheaded by one of the world’s top master chocolatiers, Norman Love, the former Godiva specialty chocolatier whose Norman Love Confections team now produces 55,000 handpainted, gourmet chocolate candies on a daily basis. (Love on the Love Boat. It’s a match made in sweet heaven.) To celebrate Princess Cruise’s 50th anniversary, Norman Love worked with the cruise line to create a new onboard experience that includes premium chocolate offerings for desserts, cocktails, candy making demos, chocolate/wine tastings, turndown service pillow treats, and even spa treatments at the ship’s Lotus Spa. By the end of 2016, it’ll be available throughout the 18ship fleet. http://www.holidaygoddess.guide/destinations/bahamastheloveboatsailstochocolateparadise/ 1/5 2/12/2016 BAHAMAS: The Love Boat’s New Chocolate Voyage : Holiday Goddess, Travel for Less Master Chocolatier Norman Love. -
Reprinted Here Is a Remarkable Tribute Written by Irishman Kevin Myers About Canada's Record of Quiet Valour in Wartime
Reprinted here is a remarkable tribute written by Irishman Kevin Myers about Canada's record of quiet valour in wartime. This article appeared in the April 21, 2002 edition of the Sunday Telegraph, one of Britain's largest circulation newspapers and in Canada's National Post on April 26, 2002. Salute to a brave and modest nation - Kevin Myers, 'The Sunday Telegraph', LONDON: Until the deaths of Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan , probably almost no one outside their home country had been aware that Canadian troops are deployed in the region. And as always, Canada will bury its dead, just as the rest of the world, as always will forget its sacrifice, just as it always forgets nearly everything Canada ever does.. It seems that Canada's historic mission is to come to the selfless aid both of its friends and of complete strangers, and then, once the crisis is over, to be well and truly ignored. Canada is the perpetual wallflower that stands on the edge of the hall, waiting for someone to come and ask her for a dance. A fire breaks out, she risks life and limb to rescue her fellow dance-goers, and suffers serious injuries. But when the hall is repaired and the dancing resumes, there is Canada, the wallflower still, while those she once helped glamorously cavort across the floor, blithely neglecting her yet again. That is the price Canada pays for sharing the North American continent with the United States, and for being a selfless friend of Britain in two global conflicts. For much of the 20th century, Canada was torn in two different directions: It seemed to be a part of the old world, yet had an address in the new one, and that divided identity ensured that it never fully got the gratitude it deserved. -

Survey: Both Democrats and GOP Love 'This Is Us,' 'Game of Thrones'
Survey: Both Democrats and GOP love 'This Is Us,' 'Game of Thrones' BY JUDY KURTZ - 03/03/20 © Courtesy of HBO The country may be more politically polarized than ever, but there are at least a couple things that both Democrats and Republicans agree on: They dig "This is Us" and "Game of Thrones." The NBC drama and former HBO fantasy series were some of the top picks on both sides of the aisle, according to a recent survey from E-Poll Market Research. Fifty-five percent of Democrats counted "This is Us" as their fave broadcast TV show, along with 68 percent of Republicans. Fifty-two percent of Democrats and 47 percent of Republicans surveyed also listed "Chicago Med" as one of their top TV picks. Other popular choices among Democrats included "Supernatural," Fox's "9-1-1" and "The Rookie," while Republicans said they delighted in "Grey's Anatomy," "Last Man Standing" and Chicago PD." The two parties had more than half of the top 20 TV shows in common, but there were a few notable differences among their boob tube choices. The results show that, of the Americans surveyed, Democrats prefer getting more laughs from their small screen fare, picking seven sitcoms as their favorites, compared to the GOP respondents' three comedy shows. A separate survey of top streaming and cable shows found that Democrats preferred Starz's "Power," with 63 percent of those surveyed naming it as their favored show, and "Game of Thrones," with 51 percent. Sixty-seven percent of Republicans named "Game of Thrones" — which ended its eight-season run last year — as their No. -

Children begin their consumer journey in infancy. And they certainly deserve consideration as consumers at that time. – James U. McNeal | Pioneering Youth Marketer [TITLE SCREEN] Consuming Kids: The Commercialization of Childhood NARRATOR: Not since the end of World War II, at the height of the baby boom, have there been so many kids in our midst. There are now more than 52 million kids under 12 in all in the United States – the biggest burst in the U.S. youth population in half a century. And for American business, these kids have come to represent the ultimate prize: an unprecedented, powerful and elusive new demographic to be cut up and captured at all costs. There is no doubt that marketers have their sights on kids because of their increasing buying power – the amount of money they now spend on everything from clothes to music to electronics, totaling some 40 billion dollars every year. But perhaps the bigger reason for marketers’ interest in kids may be the amount of adult spending that American kids under 12 now directly influence – an astronomical 700 billion dollars a year, roughly the equivalent of the combined economies of the world’s 115 poorest countries. DAVID WALSH: One economic impact of children is the money that they themselves spend – the money that they get from their parents or grandparents, the money that they get as allowance; when they get older, the money that they earn themselves. -
