JAMES, II AHEPA SUPREME PRESIDENT Successes Acknowledged am very pleased with the level of success that we recently achieved in I promoting several key initiatives which are a part of this year’s efforts to promote AHEPA’s Hellenic heritage. We assumed a leading role in promot- ing Greece as a visa-waiver nation. Our efforts were very well received by the United States Congress, the Administration, the community and many other key individuals on Capitol Hill. This effort elevated AHEPA’s image among key members in Washington, D.C. The admission of Greece as a visa-waiver nation would not only benefit Greece, but it would also greatly benefit the United States through this recognition of a staunch ally who supported our efforts worldwide throughout the years. The United States will be reaching out to the Gus J. James, II international community which has become an essential partner for United States’ efforts worldwide. AHEPA has taken monumental steps in a new direction in leading this effort on Capitol Hill. Recently the U.S. Congress honored AHEPA by passing Resolutions outlining AHEPA’s rich history and accomplishments. It was truly a proud moment for all of us to have our accomplishments enumer- ated in the Congressional Record as the Congress of the United States (both the House and Senate) voted on resolutions recognizing AHEPA’s historic accomplishments throughout its 85 year history. We should all be proud of what we and our forefathers have accomplished. Several weeks ago, I visited Cyprus, the Patriarchate and Greece as part of the President’s Spring Pilgrimage. Several AHEPA national officers, the Grand President and Grand Vice President of the Daughters of Penelope also traveled with me. We had a truly outstanding visit to Cyprus where we spent considerable time with President Papadopoulos and other government officials. It was a great pleasure to visit with the former Ambassador of Cyprus to the U. S. Evripides Evriviades during our trip. The AHEPA family is strong and growing in Cyprus. During our trip, we were honored by His All Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew who spent time with the delegation, including a dinner with the group at a local restaurant. I presented AHEPA’s traditional contribution to His All Holiness. During our meeting with him, we discussed ways in which we could assist him in his mission and with his constant struggles with Turkey.
