Connecting to the centre of

While Panuku has been impacted by the Council Emergency Budget we are still delivering on urban regeneration work this year throughout Tāmaki Makaurau.

This means we will continue to work in Manukau to deliver on projects to better link the Wiri community to the town centre, develop healthy neighborhoods, enhance connectivity within the community and create a vibrant heart for Manukau.

These projects include:

Karoro Court 1 The Karoro Court located at 16 Amersham Way will be upgraded including repairs, paving, planting and addressing safety concerns. The design process will include placemaking and ongoing events to help understand how people like to use the space. We would like to achieve: a safer place more people using Karoro Court a space that can be used for events a place that Manukau residents have had a say in creating.

Construction on Karoro Court will begin in August 2020 and be finalised in December 2020. Placemaking and events will be held following the end of construction. Barrowcliffe Bridge 2 Barrowcliffe Bridge will become the public pedestrian and cycleway of choice, to and from central Manukau and the train and bus stations. There will be vehicle access as well. This will improve the connection between Wiri and central Manukau, making it safer and easier to access. The bridge design will also celebrate the unique identity of the area and achieve the physical and cultural connection to the town centre. Construction on Barrowcliffe Bridge is planned to commence in November 2020 and be finalised in July 2021.

Barrowcliffe Pond pathway 3 As part of the Barrowcliffe Bridge and Barrowcliffe Place upgrades, a pathway along the pond at Kōtuitui Place will be created. This will create a safer walking and cycling route around this pond. Construction on the Barrowcliffe Pond Pathway are planned to commence in January 2021 and be finalised in June 2021.

Wiri Playground relocation and renewal 4 Panuku have engaged Wiri Central School, mana whenua and local community groups on creating a new playground to serve the community and families of Wiri in a fun and interactive way, layered with rich cultural elements to reflect the fabric of the local community. The playground design is based around māra hūpara play and draws on the Puhinui stream and natural environment for design themes. Construction on the Wiri Park Playground are planned to commence in January 2021 and be finalised in April 2021.
