Progressive extreme metal master Ihsahn, Norwegian black metal act Djevel and Belgium atmospheric black metal band Wiegedood is confirmed for Inferno Metal Festival 2018! His latest masterpiece is last years “Arktis.” that has been described as a great journey of diversity and emotion.     Band: Ihsahn (N) Genre: Progressive Black Metal Label: Candlelight Album Titel: Arktis. Spielzeit: 57:31 VÖ: 08.04.2016 Über den Frontmann der legendären Band Emperor, Ihsahn, muss man nicht mehr viel sagen. Mit "Arktis." veröffentlicht der norwegische Multiinstrumentalist sein mittlerweile sechstes Soloalbum und hat sich dafür einige Gäste ins Boot geholt. So geben sich unter anderem Einar Solberg (Leprous), Matt Heafy (Trivium), Jørgen Munkeby (Shining) und der norwegische Autor Hans Herbjornsrud die Ehre, was in mir sehr hohe Erwartungen weckt. "Disassembled" steigt direkt mit einem sehr eingängigen Riff ein, während die zweite Gitarre im Hintergrund einige atmosphärische Akzente setzt. Außerdem besticht das Stück (wie einige andere auch) mit grandiosen Klargesangspassagen, welche über die sphärische Musik nahezu dahingleiten. Doch auch die düstere und rohe Seite von Ihsahn hat weiterhin seinen Anteil an den Songs und bildet so einen beeindruckenden Kontrast. Im Verlauf des Albums zeigt sich immer wieder Ihsahns experimentelle Ader, zum Beispiel in den sehr elektronischen "South Winds" und "Frail", die wirken, als hätte man gnadenlos den progressiven Gedanken von Mayhem während ihrer "Grand Declaration of War"-Zeit auf die Spitze getrieben. Doch keine Angst, "Arktis." ist kein Album, dass vor Elektronik fast platzt. Im kompletten Gegensatz dazu stehen Songs wie "Until I Too Dissolve", welches viele Hard Rock-Anleihen vorweisen kann, das vom Saxophon (gespielt von Jørgen Munkeby) durchzogene "Crooked Red Line" oder der beeindruckende 9-minütige Übersong "Til Tor Ulven", über den ich noch nicht zu viel verraten möchte. Fazit: Ihsahn schafft es ein weiteres Mal, ein abwechslungsreiches und dauerhaft fesselndes Album vorzulegen, welches durch seine experimentelle Art sicher nicht nur innerhalb der Metalszene seine Befürworter finden wird.

    HOW BLACK IS BLACK METAL [JOURNALISMUS] nachrichten von heute Kevin Coogan - Lords of Chaos (LOC), a recent book-length examination of the “Satanic” black metal music scene, is less concerned with sound than fury. Authors Michael Moynihan and Didrik Sederlind zero in on Norway, where a tiny clique of black metal musicians torched some churches in 1992. The church burners’ own place of worship was a small Oslo record store called Helvete (Hell). Helvete was run by the godfather of Norwegian black metal, 0ystein Aarseth (“Euronymous”, or “Prince of Death”), who first brought black metal to Norway with his group Mayhem and his Deathlike Silence record label. One early member of the movement, “Frost” from the band Satyricon, recalled his first visit to Helvete: I felt like this was the place I had always dreamed about being in. It was a kick in the back. The black painted walls, the bizarre fitted out with inverted crosses, weapons, candelabra etc. And then just the downright evil atmosphere...it was just perfect. Frost was also impressed at how talented Euronymous was in “bringing forth the evil in people – and bringing the right people together” and then dominating them. “With a scene ruled by the firm hand of Euronymous,” Frost reminisced, “one could not avoid a certain herd-mentality. There were strict codes for what was accept- ed.” Euronymous may have honed his dictatorial skills while a member of Red Ungdom (Red Youth), the youth wing of the Marxist/Leninist Communist Workers Party, a Stalinist/Maoist outfit that idolized Pol Pot. All who wanted to be part of black metal’s inner core “had to please the leader in one way or the other.” Yet to Frost, Euronymous’s control over the scene was precisely “what made it so special and obscure, creating a center of dark, evil energies and inspiration.” Lords of Chaos, however, is far less interested in Euronymous than in the man who killed him, Varg Vikemes from the one-man group Burzum.

Of The Cave " rotzt Reign in Blood bzw. South Of Heaven "auf Speed" 09. Steel Meets Steel Anklänge en masse heraus. "Gargoyle" ist dann ein eher gebremster, feister Punk Metal-Song auf Rockkante genäht und mit einem wirklich wunderbaren Gitarrenpart im Mittelteil versehen. Überhaupt wird das Tempo öfter mal verschleppt. Mag ich bei Thrash LINEUP eigentlich nicht so gerne, wirkt hier aber echt wie ein Vorschlaghammer. Das Peter Michael Kolstad Vegem - Ganze bekommt dadurch viel mehr Druck, da der Klang doch stark verzerrt Vocals, Guitars ist und bei den schnellen Parts die Feinheiten, die es tatsächlich gibt, fast Kristoffer "Dor" Sørensen - Guitars komplett untergehen. Irgendwie erinnert mich das Ganze an "Serpent Carl Thomas Morales Janfalk - Bass Temptation" von Incubus.
