Ihsahn to Premiere New Show at Inferno 2020 IHSAHN TO PREMIERE NEW SHOW AT INFERNO 2020 We can reveal that Ihsahn is currently in the studio putting the final touches on brand new material to be released via Candlelight Records. For Inferno 2020, Ihsahn will be perform this new material live for the first time, premiering a specialized set rooted in the blackest corners of his musical palette: "The music I’m working on distills the most basic, black metal aesthetics of my music. Keeping to rather traditional arrangements and expressed with Norwegian lyrics, I explore the core elements of my musical background. These new songs will form the basis for some conceptualized shows, which I shall debut at Inferno in 2020." At only seventeen he recorded and performed “In the Nightside Eclipse”, which has many times been voted as one of the top metal albums of all time. After Emperor released their last album, “Prometheus - The Discipline of Fire & Demise” in 2001, Ihsahn has focused on is solo work and has by now released seven albums under the name Ihsahn. Now Ihsahn will return to Inferno Metal Festival for a special premiere of his new show.     Band: Ihsahn (N) Genre: Progressive Black Metal Label: Candlelight Album Titel: Arktis. Spielzeit: 57:31 VÖ: 08.04.2016 Über den Frontmann der legendären Band Emperor, Ihsahn, muss man nicht mehr viel sagen. Mit "Arktis." veröffentlicht der norwegische Multiinstrumentalist sein mittlerweile sechstes Soloalbum und hat sich dafür einige Gäste ins Boot geholt. So geben sich unter anderem Einar Solberg (Leprous), Matt Heafy (Trivium), Jørgen Munkeby (Shining) und der norwegische Autor Hans Herbjornsrud die Ehre, was in mir sehr hohe Erwartungen weckt. "Disassembled" steigt direkt mit einem sehr eingängigen Riff ein, während die zweite Gitarre im Hintergrund einige atmosphärische Akzente setzt. Außerdem besticht das Stück (wie einige andere auch) mit grandiosen Klargesangspassagen, welche über die sphärische Musik nahezu dahingleiten. Doch auch die düstere und rohe Seite von Ihsahn hat weiterhin seinen Anteil an den Songs und bildet so einen beeindruckenden Kontrast. Im Verlauf des Albums zeigt sich immer wieder Ihsahns experimentelle Ader, zum Beispiel in den sehr elektronischen "South Winds" und "Frail", die wirken, als hätte man gnadenlos den progressiven Gedanken von Mayhem während ihrer "Grand Declaration of War"-Zeit auf die Spitze getrieben. Doch keine Angst, "Arktis." ist kein Album, dass vor Elektronik fast platzt. Im kompletten Gegensatz dazu stehen Songs wie "Until I Too Dissolve", welches viele Hard Rock-Anleihen vorweisen kann, das vom Saxophon (gespielt von Jørgen Munkeby) durchzogene "Crooked Red Line" oder der beeindruckende 9-minütige Übersong "Til Tor Ulven", über den ich noch nicht zu viel verraten möchte. Fazit: Ihsahn schafft es ein weiteres Mal, ein abwechslungsreiches und dauerhaft fesselndes Album vorzulegen, welches durch seine experimentelle Art sicher nicht nur innerhalb der Metalszene seine Befürworter finden wird.

And they are damned heavy. Musically they are thrash with the occasional blast thrown in for good measure, but vocally there are coarse and guttural growls that are as low as the detuned bass guitar and then slightly higher pitched growls in the range of the guitar. Originally recorded for another label in 2006, but only after severing those ties and whatnot, did it get released now. Opener and title track "No Guts No Glory" is a statement that these guys are willing to put everything on the line to make this as heavy as possible and then they proceed to do so. A simple guitar riff over pounded drums starts "Courage Will Find You" 'til the guitars kick in with full force and step everything up a notch. A funky slap bass intro takes us to "Scorch" where the guitars assist on the tune, and dual vocals of growls and deeper growls bounce along to the staccato beat. Plodding along like a mammoth, "Anger Personified" carries itself in a way that the better Bolt Thrower tracks do, with long drawn out growls and smashed snares. Slow and melodic from the outset "The Heartbreaker" pounds into "Demise Of The Prophecy" which keeps a similar pace at first and then steps things up to a great headbanging beat.

    Late 1960's - Early 1970's The birth of heavy metal. Groups like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple were the first heavy metal bands. Late 1970's The rise of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest become very popular. 1978 Van Halen released their debut album. This began the Los Angeles/Sunset Strip scene, and many bands would come out of this era, including Motley Crue and Quiet Riot. The so called "hair bands" like Poison, Warrant and Ratt came from that scene as well. The Who's Keith Moon died. Bands formed this year: Dokken, Ratt, Whitesnake A sample of heavy metal albums released in 1978: Black Sabbath - Never Say Die Judas Priest - Stained Class UFO - Obsession 1979 The German band Accept releases their self-titled debut album. They are considered to be the first European power metal band. Ozzy Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath and replaced by Ronnie James Dio.
