MENTORS: Mike Quaranta President, State Chamber of Commerce

Mike Quaranta joined the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce as its president in 2018. Mike brings a depth of experience in both government and the private sector. He has been a principal at a leading government and public relations firm in Washington, D.C. since 2010. Past positions include serving as the Chief of Staff (2003 – 2010) to U.S. Representative Michael N. Castle (R-DE); Vice President, Federal and State Government Affairs, Experian Information Solutions, N.A.; Director, Federal Government Affairs, TRW, Inc.; and Legislative Assistant to former U.S. Senator David F. Durenberger (R-MN). Mike lives in New Castle, Delaware and is active in the local community. He presently serves as the mayor for the City of New Castle.

Senator Nicole Poore President, Jobs for Delaware Graduates, Inc.

Senator Nicole Poore is currently the president of Jobs for Delaware Graduates, a nonprofit that helps students connect with sustainable, skills-based career opportunities. As a member of the Delaware General Assembly, she represents the 12th Senate District, which includes most of New Castle and Bear, all of Delaware City and communities south of the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal, including Whitehall, Bayberry and others.

Poore’s interest in government policy began after the birth of her oldest son Nicholas, who was diagnosed cerebral palsy. Her activism in the special needs community led to a successful 2012 bid for state Senate over an incumbent. Following her unchallenged bid for reelection in 2016, Poore was selected to serve as Senate Majority Whip by her peers. The Senate Democratic Caucus then chose her to become Senate Majority Leader in 2019.

Rick Deadwyler Government & Industry Affairs, Corteva Agriscience

Rick M. Deadwyler, Jr., recently rejoined DuPont as the U.S. Mid-Atlantic & Northeast Region Leader for Government & Industry Affairs in the Agriculture Division of DowDuPont after previously serving almost 13 years with the company. Prior to his return to the company now known as DowDuPont, Rick served as the Assistant Vice President for Government & Community Relations at the for four years. For one year, he served as the Vice President of Community Engagement for the Delaware Community Foundation, where utilized his extensive network and long-standing relationships with Delaware business and community leaders to convene organizations and direct funding resources to identify and address Delaware’s priority community challenges. Rick was born and raised in the City of Wilmington, Delaware and he graduated as the only African-American in his class from The Tatnall School, a small private school in North Wilmington. He later attended the University of Delaware where he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in 1993. At both institutions, Rick displayed a distinguished level academic achievement, as well as, an athletic prowess, and he was recognized as “Mr. Delaware Basketball” and IAABO’s Player of the Year and was named to the Converse All-American Team. In June of 2008, Rick was recognized by the Network Journal, a national publication focused on the black business community as one of their “Top 40 Under 40” black professionals. In May of 2009, he was acknowledged as one of Delaware’s “Most Influential People Under 40” by Delaware Today Magazine.

Scott Malfitano Vice President, CSC

Scott Malfitano is Vice President at CSC. In addition to his responsibilities at CSC, he chairs the Pete du Pont Freedom Foundation, which hosts the annual Reinventing Delaware competition which helps launch unique innovative ideas to Delaware. Some of the winning ideas have been Zip Code Wilmington, Intern Delaware, NerdIt Now and Second Chances Farm. Scott serves on the executive committee and is Co-Chair for the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce. Through his role at CSC, Malfitano and his team continued the company’s business expansion creating a Delaware office campus. CSC’s latest addition is CSC Station, a co-working and innovation hub slated to open this October.

Jason Gonzalez Senior Manager, DuPont Government Affairs

Jason leads state government affairs activities in the United States. Gonzalez is responsible for leading advocacy, public policy, economic development and business collaboration activities as well as corporate government affairs in the company’s headquarters community of Delaware. Gonzalez has represented DuPont in leadership capacities with various organizations such as the American Chemistry Council, CropLife America, the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, the New Jersey Organization for a Better State (NEW JOBS), the New York State Chemistry Council, the Ohio Manufacturers Association and the Pennsylvania Chemical Industry Council.

Douglas Kook Managing Partner, Bumpers & Company Douglas Kook, CPA, CVA has been with Bumpers & Company since 1999. Doug is currently a member of the AICPA, NACVA, serves as the President of the Delaware State Chapter of the NACVA and is heavily involved in a variety of organizations including the Wilmington West Rotary Club, Wilmington West Rotary Foundation and the Wilmington Delaware Area Rotary Clubs Community Fund (Can do Playground), to name a few. He is a tax and business valuation expert and has extensive experience in small business and medical practice accounting and consulting fields. Doug is a true sports enthusiast. He has both played on and managed teams in adult baseball leagues, and participated in Bike to the Bay, Philadelphia Rock N Roll Half Marathon and the NCC Flag Football league.

Grace M. Stockley Vice President of Marketing & Business Development, FideliTrade Incorporated

Grace attended Wesley College and obtained her bachelor’s degree in business Administration. In 1996 she started her career in precious metals with Wilmington Trust then continued at FideliTrade. Over the years Grace has held various positions with FideliTrade and now serves on the depository’s board. She serves on the DE State Chamber’s Board of Governors, co-chair of the Small Business Alliance and is also the Board Treasurer for the Police Athletic League of Wilmington.

Grace has two daughters. One is a graduate of Temple University and the other is enrolled at Del State University. Grace served as co-chair of the Education Committee for the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League Young Professionals, tutored at William Hicks Anderson Community Center and was a mentor with Good Will. She is a native of New Jersey but has lived and worked in Delaware for over 20 years.

Larry Swafford Vice President Group Manager, Fulton Financial Cooperation In addition to cultivating his team at Fulton, Larry also serves as the Vice President of the Bellevue Community Center Board of Directors, The mission of BCC is to improve the quality of life for individuals and families in the Eastern Brandywine Hundred area by providing a range of affordable and accessible educational, recreational, self- enrichment, and family support services. Larry has also served in the roles of Associate Advisory Board Member and Leadership Mentor for WSFS Bank; and for six years served as the Treasure for Boy Scouts of America Pack 527. He is a die-hard Washington Nationals Baseball fan and his love of baseball provided him the opportunity to try out for the NY Mets Organization in his younger years. He loves golfing with his son every weekend, participating in Ronald McDonald House and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation annual events.
