through FILMS 70 years of European History through films is a product in Erasmus+ project „70 years of European History 1945-2015”. It was prepared by the teachers and students involved in the project – from: Greece, Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Turkey. It’ll be a teaching aid and the source of information about the recent European history. A DANGEROUS METHOD (2011) Director: David Cronenberg Writers: Christopher Hampton, Christopher Hampton Stars: Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley, Viggo Mortensen Country: UK | GE | Canada | CH Genres: Biography | Drama | Romance | Thriller Trailer In the early twentieth century, Zurich-based Carl Jung is a follower in the new theories of psychoanalysis of Vienna-based Sigmund Freud, who states that all psychological problems are rooted in sex. Jung uses those theories for the first time as part of his treatment of Sabina Spielrein, a young Russian woman bro- ught to his care. She is obviously troubled despite her assertions that she is not crazy. Jung is able to uncover the reasons for Sa- bina’s psychological problems, she who is an aspiring physician herself. In this latter role, Jung employs her to work in his own research, which often includes him and his wife Emma as test subjects. Jung is eventually able to meet Freud himself, they, ba- sed on their enthusiasm, who develop a friendship driven by the- ir lengthy philosophical discussions on psychoanalysis. Actions by Jung based on his discussions with another patient, a fellow psychoanalyst named Otto Gross, lead to fundamental chan- ges in Jung’s relationships with Freud, Sabina and Emma. -
Burning Bush
presents BURNING BUSH A Film by Agnieszka Holland 2013 / Czech Republic / in Czech with English subtitles / Color A Kino Lorber Release from Kino Lorber, Inc. 333 West 39 St., Suite 503 New York, NY 10018 (212) 629-6880 Publicity Contact: Rodrigo Brandão – [email protected] Matt Barry – [email protected] SHORT SYNOPSIS The three-part drama, directed by the Polish director Agnieszka Holland, is HBO Europe’s most ambitious, big-budget project to date. The film returns to a pivotal time in modern Czech history, ignored in Czech cinema until now. It begins with a reconstruction of the shocking act of a Czech university student, who in protest of the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia, set himself on fire in Prague’s Wenceslas Square on January 16, 1969, and died four days later. Through the story of the brave defense attorney Dagmar Burešová, who defended Palach’s legacy in a doomed lawsuit, the film examines the transformations taking place in Czechoslovak society after the invasion of the armies of the Warsaw Pact in August of 1968 and the installation of a hardline Communist government. It depicts the beginnings of Czech and Slovak resistance against the occupation, which reached its apex with the mass protests during Palach’s funeral. It also shows the nation’s gradual resignation under the pressure of fear and harsher persecution. LONG SYNOPSIS Part I On the 16th of January1969 on Wenceslas Square in Prague, a young student sets himself on fire in front of dozens of passers-by. Police Major Jireš (Ivan Trojan) investigates the circumstances of Palach’s actions. -

It was the most spectacular event of the “Autumn of Nations”. It was also a very fitting symbol – a metaphor – for the fall of communism’s totalitarian system and for the reunification of Europe. Yet, the bringing down of the Berlin Wall was merely the final stage of a process that had been initiated nearly ten years earlier at the Gdansk Shipyards. In August 1980, as the result of a weeks-long workers’ strike, the ruling Polish United Workers Party agreed to the legalization of Solidarity, the first independent labour union in that part of Europe controlled by the Soviet Union. Solidarity was the first step towards freedom in the 40 years since the Red Army installed communist regimes throughout the Central European countries it had “liberated” during the war. -
We've Been All Over out Here. Virgil Gets Hired to Settle Things Down in Towns That Need Settling, and I Go with Him.
We’ve been all over out here. Virgil gets hired to settle things down in towns that need settling, and I go with him. -- Everett Hitch Oscar nominee Viggo Mortensen (“Eastern Promises”), four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris (“Pollock”), Academy Award winner Renée Zellweger (“Cold Mountain”) and Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons (“Reversal of Fortune”) star in the Western “Appaloosa,” adapted from the Robert B. Parker novel. Set in 1882 in the Old West territory of New Mexico, “Appaloosa” revolves around city marshal Virgil Cole (Harris) and his deputy and partner Everett Hitch (Mortensen), who have made their reputation as peacekeepers in the lawless towns springing up in the untamed land. In the small mining community of Appaloosa, a ruthless, powerful rancher named Randall Bragg (Irons) has allowed his band of outlaws to run roughshod over the town. After the cold-blooded murder of Appaloosa’s city marshal, Cole and Hitch are hired to bring the murderer to justice. While establishing new authority with equal parts grit and guns, Cole and Hitch meet provocative newcomer Allison French (Zellweger), whose unconventional ways threaten to undermine their progress and to destroy the two lawmen’s decade-old partnership. New Line Cinema presents in association with Axon Films, a Groundswell Production of an Ed Harris film, “Appaloosa,” starring Viggo Mortensen, Ed Harris, Renée Zellweger, Jeremy Irons, Timothy Spall and Lance Henriksen. The film was directed by Ed Harris from a screenplay by Robert Knott & Ed Harris, based on the novel by Robert B. Parker. Harris, Knott and Ginger Sledge produced the film, with Michael London, Cotty Chubb, Toby Emmerich and Sam Brown serving as executive producers. -

The 15th International Student Film Festival Tel Aviv June 19th-24th 2013 Summary Report The 15th International Student Film Festival Tel Aviv The 15th International Student Film Festival took place on June 19th-24th 2013 in Tel Aviv Cinemateque. This year, the Festival was produced as an annual event for the first time (rather than being a biannual event). Still, as one of the biggest and most important in its field, the Festival set its goal to portray a vast portrait of current international student films, create a unique and free environment for cinematic discourse and to expose the students to new and classic films, technologies, creators and more. The biggest event of the festival was the "2013 CILECT Prize", featuring 100 short student films from all over the world. 80 international students arrived to Israel for the festival, as well as a dozen lecturers of film studies from major international film schools (all from CILECT institutes). Alongside the International Panorama (CILECT Prize), the Israeli Competition was held, the largest and most important in Israel, the Mediterranean and Arab Countries Competition. Also for the first time – we held an Israeli independent Short Films Competition (short films who weren't produced as part of an academic institute). The Festival collaborated with the Israeli Film & TV Academy, and initiated a new academy award for the best Israeli Short Film. The winning film will be chosen out of a shortlist created by the Festival's jury. We believe this will give the Israeli student films a greater exposure for the wide audience as well as for the film industry persons, members of the academy, thus giving young filmmakers new opportunities. -

ABOUT PAPUSZA Papusza is based on the true story of the Roma poet Papusza and the Polish poet Jerzy Ficowski, who discovered her great talent. Papusza was the first and only Roma woman who put her poems into writing and even published them. By doing so, she confronted the traditional female’s role in her community and as a result, she and her family were banished. It is a story of a gifted woman who wants to preserve her culture with words and has to pay a painful price for that decision. When a person is young, In heart and hope, The world opens easily With any kind of key. (Papusza) LOGLINE True story of Papusza - the first Roma woman who put her poems into writing and published them, and therefore confronted the traditional female image in the gypsy community. SYNOPSIS True story of Papusza - the first Roma woman who put her poems into writing and published them, and therefore confronted the traditional female image in the gypsy community. The film follows Papusza’s life from birth to old age: arranged marriage as a small girl, her life in a gypsy tabor before, during and after second world war, then forced settlement in communist Poland and urban life in poverty. Her meeting with the Polish poet Jerzy Ficowski, who discovered her great talent for poetry and published her works led to a tragic paradox: a famous poet was living in poverty, rejected by the Roma community, for betraying their secrets.
