AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Daniel S. Petre-Miller for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education presented on April 8, 1991. Title: The Content Analysis of Low-Functioning Sex Offenders' Dreams Signature redacted for privacy. Abstract approved: arol Sisson The problem discussed in this research concerns the content of the dreams of low-functioning sex offenders and clinical applications of those dreams in the treatment of these offenders. The subjects of the research are five low-finctioning sex offenders in the Social Skills Program (SSP) of the Oregon Forensic Psychiatric Center (OFPC) at the Oregon State Hospital. A group of five high-functioning sex offenders from the Sex Offenders Program (SOP) at OFPC is used as a comparison. In the study, a low-functioning sex offender is defined as having a full scale intelligence quotient (FSIQ) of between 65 and 84. The high-functioning sex offender comparison group is defined by an FSIQ of 85 or above. The experimental method used is a case study design using qualitative methods. The subjects submitted dreams to the researcher to be analyzed using the content analysis of dreams method developed by Hall and Van de Castle (1966). The statistical analysis used is the Mann-Whitney U test for comparison between the groups: experimental (SSP), comparison (SOP), and the norms. The Kruskal-Wallis one-way ANOVA is used to compare the findings within the groups. The statistical findings indicate there are no significant differences at the .05 level between the groups on all the subscales except in the case of "Good Fortune." The "Good Fortune" subscale shows a significant difference between the experimental group (SSP) and the comparison group (SOP).

  • Bdsm, Kink, and Consent: What the Law Can Learn from Consent-Driven Communities
BDSM, KINK, AND CONSENT: WHAT THE LAW CAN LEARN FROM CONSENT-DRIVEN COMMUNITIES Mika Galilee-Belfer* Millions of Americans participate in consensual, mutually agreed-upon activities such as bondage, dominance, and submission—collectively referred to as BDSM or kink—yet the relationship between individual consent to such participation and consent as legally understood and defined is imperfect at best. Because the law has not proven adept at adjudicating disputes that arise in BDSM situations, communities that practice BDSM have adopted self-policing mechanisms (formal and informal) aimed at replicating and even advancing the goals and protections of conventional law enforcement. This self-policing is particularly important because many jurisdictions hold there can be no consent to the kind of experiences often associated with BDSM; this is true in practice irrespective of the existence of statutory language regarding consent. In this Note, I compare legal communities and BDSM communities across three variables: how consent is defined, how violations are comparably adjudicated, and the types of remedies available by domain. In the process, I examine what norm-setting and rule adjudication look like when alternative communities choose to define, and then operate within, norms and controls that must be extra-legal by both necessity and design. ISSN 2029-8587 PROBLEMS OF PSYCHOLOGY IN THE 21st CENTURY Vol. 9, No. 2, 2015 85 THE “JŪDŌ SUKEBEI” PHENOMENON: WHEN CROSSING THE LINE MERITS MORE THAN SHIDŌ [MINOR INFRINGEMENT] ― SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR IN JŪDŌ COACHES AND INSTRUCTORS Carl De Crée University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, Rome, Italy Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium International Association of Judo Researchers, United Kingdom E-mail: [email protected] Abstract The sport of jūdō was intended as an activity “for all”. Since in 1996 a major sex abuse scandal broke out that involved a Dutch top jūdō coach and several female elite athletes, international media have identified many more abuses. To date no scholarly studies exist that have examined the nature, extent, and consequences of these anomalies. We intend in this paper to review and analyze sexual abuses in jūdō. To do so we offer a descriptive jurisprudence overview of relevant court and disciplinary cases, followed by a qualitative-analytical approach looking at the potential factors that prompt jūdō-related bullying and sexual harassment. Sex offenders may be attracted to jūdō because of: 1. the extensive bodily contact during grappling, 2. the easy access to voyeuristic opportunities during contest weigh-ins and showering, 3. Jūdō’s authoritarian and hierarchical structure as basis for ‘grooming’, 4. lack of integration of jūdō’s core moral component in contemporary jūdō coach and instructor education, and 5. its increasing eroti- cization by elite jūdō athletes posing for nude calendars and media and by specialized pornographic jūdō manga and movies. Cultural conceptions and jurisprudence are factors that affect how people perceive the seriousness and how these offences are dealt with.

  • Rope Bondage 101
Rope Bondage 101 Overview Bondage and restraint is a common fantasy for many people. Some prefer the struggle and potential for escape, others enjoy feeling of capturing and holding another person in captivity. Rope bondage can be used as a utilitarian restraint used for further play, or as an end unto itself with complex patterns and forms, designed to beautifully captivate a willing participant. This workshop covers safety concerns surrounding rope bondage, rope materials & selection, basic knots, and simple restraint ties. What follows from this base is a comparison between Western and Eastern rope styles along with an example of a Japanese tie. The workshop winds down with some tips and tricks for improving your bondage skills and an overview of resources available in print and on the internet. This guide is written as instruction to the person applying the bondage, the term partner is used to indicate the person on whom the bondage is being applied. Bio I’m a fun‐loving rope geek and sex educator who has found a home in the Midwest United States kink community. • For Each Kink Indicate with an 'X' Whether You Have Or Haven't Tried the Kink, and Where It Falls in Your Limits
Instructions: For each Kink indicate with an 'x' whether you have or haven't tried the Kink, and where it falls in your limits. Green being a Kink that you are whole heartedly okay with participating in, Soft being a Kink that you are curious about, but would only want to try under the right circumstances, and Hard being a Kink that you are wholeheartedly NOT okay with participating in. If you are unsure of what a Kink is either ask your partner or go online (or wherever) and research it. If there are any notes that you would like to make on any of the Kinks (ex. Experience you had etc.) there is a notes page at the end. Once both you and your partner have completed your lists use this as a tool to start the an indepth conversation of the Kinks that you and your partner are going to be participating in once you start playing. It is okay if you and your partner disagree on certain Kinks, not everyone is going to like the same things in life and that especially goes for peoples Kinks. There are numerous Kinks out there, and while I would like to include everyone of them, almost anything can be turned into a kink so this list does not contain every single kink out there. • Submitting to the Discipline of Sexual Intimacy? Online Constructions of BDSM Encounters
Submitting to the discipline of sexual intimacy? Online constructions of BDSM encounters by Saskia Wolfaardt A mini‐dissertation submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree MA Clinical Psychology in the Department of Psychology at the UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA FACULTY OF HUMANITIES SUPERVISOR: Prof T Bakker January 2014 © University of Pretoria i Acknowledgements Thank you to my participants for trusting me with your intimate journeys and for letting me share it with others. Thank you to my academic supervisor, Prof Terri Bakker, for questions rather than answers, for your sincere interest and curiosity and for all your patience. Thank you to Ingrid Lynch, for your unwavering support, encouragement, endurance and patience. Thank you for the read, reread and re‐reread. Thank you for trusting that I would finish… eventually. Thank you to my parents and brother for your continuous love, support, motivation and faith in me throughout my academic career and for always communicating how proud you are of me in whichever impossible decision I make. © University of Pretoria ii Abstract BDSM (bondage, discipline/dominance, submission/sadism and masochism) has recently gained greater visibility in dominant discourses around sexuality. However, these depictions are often constructed in rigid ways to typically exclude experiences of sexual intimacy. Despite this apparent exclusion, constructions of subspace (an altered mental state induced through BDSM encounters) on online blogs intrigued me to consider it as an alternative to widely accepted notions of sexual intimacy. Using a poststructuralist theoretical framework, I conducted an online ethnographic study in which I explored the varied ways in which self‐ identified South African BDSM individuals construct meaning around sexual intimacy.

  • Sadomasochist Role-Playing As Live- Action Role-Playing: a Trait-Descriptive Analysis
International Journal of Role-Playing - Issue 2 Sadomasochist Role-Playing as Live- Action Role-Playing: A Trait-Descriptive Analysis Popular Abstract - This article describes sadomasochist role-playing which is physically performed by its participants. All sadomasochist activities have a role-playing component to them. It is a form of role-playing where people consensually take on dominant and submissive roles, for the purpose of inflicting things such as pain and humiliation, in order to create pleasure for all participants. In some cases, participants agree to emphasize those roles, or make them fetishistically attractive, by adding complexity and definitions to them, and then act them out in semi-scripted fantasy scenes. This paper examines that activity, commonly called “sadomasochistic role-play”, as opposed to the more generic “sadomasochism” of which it is only one facet. Furthermore, the article compares this form of play with live-action role-playing (larp). Its main emphasis is on the question of how closely related the two activities are. To determine this, the article examines sadomasochist role-playing as being potentially a game, the question of its goal-orientation and the issue of whether or not it contains a character in the sense of a live-action role-playing character. Based on this process, it comes to the conclusion that sadomasochist role-playing is not a separate type of role-playing, but rather one kind of live-action role-playing. As its theoretical framework, this text utilizes studies done on both live-action role-playing games and on sadomasochist role-playing. Reliable material on the latter being quite limited, descriptions have been gathered from both academic works and practical manuals.

I do not take any responsibility in any practice inspi- red by this manual. This is not a training guide, reference manual or compen- dium. Any of those below mentioned practices can lead to serious injuries, or death. I truly believe you will find this book informative regarding some of the most deadly BDSM practices, and this can help you, or your community, see the dangers in those activities. Word from the Author: Who I am, and why I wrote this book Firstly, I am not a doctor, not a black belt martial practitioner and not, in any- way, a professional at breathplay. Do not take any of this knowledge for the truth; also conduct your own research. I am someone who has lost many friends due to breathplay-related activities. I want to share my knowledge with the goal of saving lives. I did lots of research before giving breathplay classes to provide awareness on the dangers of this practice. I am also someone who has been doing BDSM for a long time; I saw many things as I was travelling, through conventions across Ca- nada and the United States; I learned from many people and through classes on many topics related to this domain. Has an ex military personnel and martial arts enthusiast, I leaned about things that are not that common, and therefore are great to share.

  • Yes, No, Maybe Chart Instructions
Yes, No, Maybe Chart Instructions Instructions If Using With A Partner or Partners: 1. Print It: Print out one chart for each person who will be participating, plus one extra as a master list. (Feel free to add any sex acts I missed, or take out sex acts that don’t apply to your body.) 2. Fill It Out: Have each person fill out the chart (preferably alone) based upon their personal preferences. Check “Yes” if you would do this activity. Check “No” if you would not engage in the activity. Check “Maybe” if you would consider doing the activity, need more information about the activity, or are not completely opposed to the activity. BE HONEST. The whole point of this is to help express desires, and if you’re not honest, this exercise won’t be completely effective. 3. Make A Master List: Once forms are filled out, use the extra chart you printed out to compile a master list. Compare your charts and when your yes columns match up, put a mark in the “YES” column. When your no columns match up, put a mark in the “NO” column. When your maybe columns match up OR when your marks don’t match up, put a mark in pencil in the “MAYBE” column. 4. Negotiate: Discuss the acts in the “MAYBE” column. If you can come to an agreement in either direction, erase your mark in the “MAYBE” column, and place one in either the “YES” or “NO” column based on your decision. If an agreement can’t be reached, or if you’re still unsure, keep the mark in the “MAYBE” column.
