2 The people who walked in The Ransomed Shall Return darkness 35 The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad; have seen a great light; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the crocus; those who dwelt in a land of deep 2 it shall blossom abundantly darkness, and rejoice with joy and singing. on them has light shone. The glory of shall be given to it, 3 You have multiplied the nation; the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. you have increased its joy; They shall see the glory of the LORD, they rejoice before you the majesty of our God. as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they 3 Strengthen the weak hands, divide the spoil. 4 and make firm the feeble knees. For the yoke of his burden, 4 Say to those who have an anxious heart, and the staff for his shoulder, “Be strong; fear not! the rod of his oppressor, Behold, your God you have broken as on the day will come with vengeance, of Midian. 5 with the recompense of God. For every boot of the tramping He will come and save you.” warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in 5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, blood and the ears of the deaf unstopped; will be burned as fuel for the 6 then shall the lame man leap like a deer, fire. and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. 6 For to us a child is born, For waters break forth in the wilderness, to us a son is given; and streams in the desert; and the government shall be upon 7 the burning sand shall become a pool, his shoulder, and the thirsty ground springs of water; and his name shall be called in the haunt of jackals, where they lie down, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty the grass shall become reeds and rushes. God, Everlasting Father, Prince of 8 And a highway shall be there, Peace. and it shall be called the Way of Holiness; 7 Of the increase of his government the unclean shall not pass over it. and of peace It shall belong to those who walk on the way; there will be no end, even if they are fools, they shall not go astray. on the throne of and over 9 No lion shall be there, his kingdom, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it; to establish it and to uphold it they shall not be found there, with justice and with but the redeemed shall walk there. righteousness 10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return from this time forth and and come to with singing; forevermore. everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; The zeal of the LORD of hosts will they shall obtain gladness and joy, do this. and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. 1
