While the power generation needs of utilities are unique and diverse, they are all faced with the double challenge of meeting growing electricity needs while

curbing CO2 emissions. To answer these diverse needs and help tackle this challenge, AREVA has developed several reactor models characterized by:

• Output level AREVA product range Depending on the baseload needs and the expected grid capacity, a mid-size or large-size reactor will be more appropriate.

• Boiling or pressurized water technology Some customers have developed operating experience and asset 1250 mWe 1100 mWe 1650 mWe management skills with one technology in particular and wish to capitalize on them when selecting a new reactor.

Developed with MHI Whatever the customer’s choice may be, our medium power output High power output reactors set the standard in terms of safety and each of them off ers an optimal balance of market launch 2010 Deployed proven and innovative features. They will achieve high operational performance and meet the most stringent safety requirements, off ering Boiling Water Pressurized Water Reactors Reactor licensing certainty in a world where safety standards are steadily rising.

3 EPRTM Reactor

Designed on the basis of the Konvoi (Germany) and N4 (France) reactors, the EPRTM reactor is an evolutionary model designed to achieve best-in-class safety and operational performance levels.

Taking into account the requirements of reference customers such as EDF and the German utilities, the EPR™ reactor is one of the world’s most powerful. The EPR™ design combines active and passive safety systems so as to increase safety and ensure that there will be no impact on the surrounding area whatever the situation. Compared with current plants, the EPR™ reactor will achieve a significant reduction in both consumption (more than 15%) and long-lived radioelements production (more than 10%).

Major power companies worldwide have already expressed their confidence in AREVA’s EPR™ Cut away of the technology. Today, four EPR™ units are under EPRTM reactor construction: one in Finland (Olkiluoto 3), one in France (Flamanville 3), and two in China (Taishan 1&2). Selected by some utilities in the United States, it is also being considered by High Power Output customers in the United Kingdom, India and other countries for the development of their nuclear fleet. 4 ATMEA1TM Reactor

The ATMEA1™ reactor is being jointly designed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and AREVA through , their common company. This reactor design benefits from the competencies and expertise of the two mother companies, which have commissioned close to 130 reactor units.

Thanks to technical features such as a diversified back-up safety train, the ATMEA1™ reactor can achieve high availability while its high-efficiency steam generators (coming from the French N4 reactor and used in the EPR™ design) help drive fuel costs down.

Additionally, Gen III+ safety level is achieved thanks to solutions adapted from the EPR™ reactor as well as features developed by MHI. The ATMEA1™ reactor has already gathered strong market interest worldwide and is supported by reference nuclear utilities.

5 KERENATM Reactor

Designed on the basis of the most recent German BWR reactors (Gundremmingen) the KERENA™ reactor relies on proven technology while also including innovative, yet thoroughly tested, features. The optimal combination of active and passive safety systems for a achieves a very low probability of severe accident.

Additionally, the KERENA™ development has been supported by a number of major international utilities — E.ON, RWE, EnBW (Germany), EDF (France), TVO (Finland) — who, beyond safety, have focused on high operational performance. For example, simplified components enable shorter outages for higher availablility than the currently operating BWRs. E.ON, major European utility, has already expressed a major interest in the KERENA™ model.

6 Innovative solutions adapted to each design

AREVA, with its unique engineering capabilities and sustained R&D efforts has developed unique technologies to enhance the performance and safety of its new generation of reactors.

High Business performance

• Heavy neutron reflector A solution adapted to PWRs and featured on the EPRTM TM and ATMEA1 designs: achieving ~3% fuel savings, • AtriumTM 12 fuel 60 - year reactor pressure vessel lifetime certainty. Optimized 12x12 fuel assembly for KERENA™ design. An innovative way to reduce the number of fuel assemblies in a BWR.

Outstanding Safety

• Emergency Condensers The emergency condensers serve to passively remove • Core catcher heat from the reactor upon an eventual drop in reactor This technical solution has been chosen for the EPR™ and pressure vessel (RPV) water level. This feature has been ATMEA1™ reactors. This is required for high-power density developed for the KERENA™ reactor. PWR cores to mitigate and manage a potential core melt.
