Together, Writing Stories of Success Engineering Solutions

You’ve heard a lot of stories over the years — some are epic tales of heroism, others are short stories with simple resolutions. The best stories — the type of stories we’d like to write with you — have common elements we can all relate to.

Many stories start the same way — with listening. By listening, we work to strengthen the trust you have placed in our people and technologies over the years. By listening and working together, we achieve the ultimate goal — safe and competitive generation worldwide.

Often the cast of characters is familiar — in this case, it’s our engineering experts. Our combination of Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) engineering and Specialty engineering expertise allows to deliver a total-plant perspective. Plus, we maintain analysis-of-record for approximately one-third of the North American operating plants. So our engineers bring a wide experience base to use in performing analysis for utilities, regardless of the OEM.

There's a common theme to the stories too — great teamwork. Our engineering teams are integrated across all of Framatome’s service offerings. From major projects to component replacements, our engineers deliver project excellence from beginning to end. And our experts have experience collaborating with site teams to meet your plant’s specifi c needs and deliver with operational excellence. We’re listening and writing new stories of success, together.

Our Objective

To provide the best engineering to deliver safe, world-class project performance, total cost certainty, and a partner committed to excellence. We strive for operational excellence by focusing on safety, quality, performance and delivery of innovative products and reliable solutions.

1 Our Engineering Story

The heritage of Framatome engineering traces back to many mergers and acquisitions that strengthened the engineering capabilities of the Framatome brand. Today, the knowledge and skills from the company growth is apparent in the diverse offerings of our engineering organization. Our organization is divided into two areas to support ongoing plant operations, NSSS Engineering and Specialty Engineering. Whether you require engineering support for a design change package or complex nuclear analysis for a fuel transition, Framatome has the experience and staff to understand your issue and translate it into an engineering analysis that provides value to your plant operation.

You probably already have experience with the Framatome engineering workforce. Our engineers not only support other Framatome services such as outages, component repair & replacement, inspection and testing, and fuels, but also perform turnkey engineering in support of our I&C and product businesses. Framatome engineers also support the SGT business activities and provide engineering for the recently acquired ’s Nuclear I&C business. Our engineers are embedded into the value of the Framatome brand.

In the following pages, we present a snapshot of our engineering capabilities while highlighting solutions provided to our customers. We look forward to working with you.

3 NSSS Engineering

The story First-of-a-kind solution

Utility Challenge A utility needed baffl e bolt replacements. Due to component aging, the baffl e plates had shifted and a new bolt-by-bolt inspection would cause the plant to miss a license renewal deadline.

Framatome Solution Framatome was stumped on this one. No existing approach would solve the issue. So the team came up with a fi rst-of-a- kind solution — a simplifi ed structural model, paired with a sophisticated statistical analysis that could reliably predict the entire bolt population’s future behavior. In the span of two weeks, Framatome’s team met the challenge and went beyond, working 24-hour Framatome is a full-service provider shifts to develop the solutions, including of NSSS engineering services in the the redesign of a probe, fabricating pressurized water reactor (PWR) and new transducers, upgrading the UT (BWR) markets, instruments, qualifying and deploying the including: new technique and doing inspections in tandem with engineering analysis. • Reload fuel analysis • Safety analysis The Result • Evaluations and analysis of NSSS The team was able to run millions of components and ancillary systems simulations to quickly develop a high level of confi dence to demonstrate the • Design change packages for NSSS structural integrity of the plant’s internals modifi cations and meet the deadline. • Evaluations of plant design bases and accident analysis The Benefi t Best in class at solving emergent issues
