Edutravel in Mirror EduTravel in Mirror Italia România Proiectul are ca țintă promovarea schimburilor interculturale și lingvistice prin vizitarea anumitor obiective culturale, istorice, arhitec- turale și geografice proprii fiecărui participant. Informațiile recent dobândite în cadrul proiectului vor fi incluse în filme documentare și broșuri legate de obiectivele reprezentative vizitate în comunitățile școlilor partenere, în spiritul sloganului ”Travelling and learning in the mirror”(în oglindă). Aceste materiale vor prezenta bogățiile fiecărui partener în parte, bazându-se pe percepțiile și înțelegerea culturală a fiecăruia. Pe parcursul proiectului se vor desfășura câteva activități de pregătire a elevilor, unde vor învăța elementele TIC solicitate în activitățile de proiect; elevii își vor forma noi abilități TIC pentru a-și îmbunătăți tehnica de editare a unui film. În plus, fiecare grup de elevi va dedica 30 de ore studiului limbii partenerului înainte de a organiza fiecare întâlnire de proiect. Înainte de aceste întâlniri elevii fiecărei școli gazdă vor crea un orar ce constă în stabilirea obiectivelor-cheie ce vor fi studiate în timpul vizitei și vor efectua anumite studii-documentar folosind internetul sau alte resurse. Toate informațiile adunate în această perioadă pregătitoare (date, poze, hărți, etc.) vor reprezenta bază creării unei broșuri în fiecare școală. Mai departe, în timpul întâlnirilor aceste broșuri locale vor fi transformate de fiecare grup de elevi inr-o broșură comună (numită ”EduTravel în mirror”) ce va fi prezentată în 3 limbi: Engleză, Italiană și Română. După completarea fiecărei întâlniri, elevii școlii vizitate vor face un film documentar și un album foto care va fi postat atât pe site-ul proiectului cât și pe contul de Facebook. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The project aims at promoting intercultural and linguistic exchanges through visits of some particular cultural, historical, architectural and geographical landmarks of the local community of each partner such as documentary movies and brochures related to the key-objectives that have been visited in the school community partner, according to the formula "Traveling and learning in the mirror”- these products will show each partner's heritage through the eyes of the other, based on each one’s perceptions and cultural understanding. During the project there will be several students' training activities to learn those elements of ICT required in the project activities; students will acquire ICT skills for video film producing. Besides, each group of students will devote 30 hours to the study of the partner's langua- ge before organizing every project meeting. Moreover, before these meetings the students of each host school will produce a visiting-plan consisting in establishing the key- sights which will be studied during the visit and carrying out some particular documentary studies on them by using the Internet or other sources. All the information gathered during this period of preparatory activities (data, photos, maps, etc.) will represent the basis for producing a brochure in each school. These brochures will further be transformed by the team-work of the students during the project meetings into a common brochure ( called "EduTravel in mirror“ brochure ) in three-language-format: English, Italian and Romanian. After completion of each project meeting, the students of the visiting school will produce a documentary film and a photo album which will be posted on the project’ site as well as on Facebook account of the project. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Il progetto mira a promuovere scambi interculturali e linguistici attraverso le visite di alcuni particolari siti d’interesse culturale, storico, architettonico e naturalistico della comunità locale di ogni partner e la produzione di documentari e brochure sugli obiettivi chiave che sono stati visitati nella comunità scolastica del partner, in base alla formula “Viaggiare e imparare allo specchio” - questi elaborati mostreranno il patrimo- nio di ogni partner attraverso gli occhi degli altri, sulla base delle loro percezioni e del loro bagaglio culturale. Nel corso del progetto ci saranno molte attività di formazione degli studenti per imparare quegli elementi d’informatica necessari per lo svolgimento delle varie attività del progetto; gli studenti acquisiranno le competenze per la produzione del video. Inoltre, ogni gruppo di stu- denti dedicherà 30 ore allo studio della lingua del partner prima di organizzare ogni incontro di progetto. Inoltre, prima di questi incontri gli studenti di ciascuna scuola ospitante svolgeranno attività propedeutiche quali la selezione dei luoghi -chiave che saranno studiati durante le mobilità e lavori di ricerca e documentazione su questi luoghi usando Internet o altre risorse. Tutte le informazioni raccolte durante questo periodo di attività preparatorie (informazioni, foto, mappe, ecc.) rappresenteranno le basi per creare una brochure in ciascuna scuola. Queste brochure saranno anche tradotte dal gruppo di lavoro degli studenti durante gli incontri di progetto e assemblate in un'unica brochure (chiamata “EduTravel in Mirror” brochure) in tre lingue differenti: Inglese, Italiano e Rumeno. Dopo il completamento di ciascun incontro, gli studenti della scuola in visita produrranno un video ducumentario e un album di foto che saranno postate sul sito del progetto e sul gruppo Facebook. În proiect vor fi selectați și pregătiți 30 de elevi coordonați de profesori de Engleză, IT, Științe și Geografie. În perioadele anterioare celor două întâlniri pentru proiect elevii, asistați de profesorii lor, vor întemeia planurile de vizită după care vor și împărțiți în 5 grupe, fiecare grupă ocupându-se de activitățile documentare legate de unul din cele 5 obiective-cheie selectate. Aceste activități pregătitoare se vor finaliza cu creare- a celor două broșuri locale care vor da forma finală a broșurii EduTravel în mirror”. Pe parcursul acestei perioade se va întreține un proces conti- nuu de comunicare pentru a asigura paralelismul planurilor de vizită și al activităților desfășurate. În fiecare școală va exista un orar de pregătire lingvistică Română/Italiană și pregătirea TIC pe lângă orele de studiu obișnuite, iar profesorii din ambele școli vor pune la punct o programă reci- procă de pregătire. După terminarea întâlnirii de proiect, elevii implicați în mobilități vor face un film documentar și un album foto. La sfârșitul proiectului, forma finală a broșurii trilingve și albumele foto

Project Overview: The Significance of the Database and the Historical Material it Covers We now experience buildings of the medieval past through the filter of repairs, restoration, and reconstruction. This may be particularly true for the monuments of the historic Kingdom of Sicily, which have been subjected to damage from earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and the aerial bombardments of World War II. In addition, South Italian monuments, like those everywhere in Italy, were usually once covered by Baroque decoration in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth centuries, much of which was later removed during a period of “remedievalization” after the unification of Italy. Urban growth, especial- ly after the middle of the twentieth century, has transformed the visual and symbolic role of these representational monuments, their relation to the urban and natural landscape, and their importance for the visual cultures of Europe and the Mediterranean. So what do we actually see when we look at a medieval monument? Whose “Middle Ages” are we actually experiencing? Are there ways to come closer to the appearance of a site prior to all the changes and modifications described above? The Kingdom of Sicily Image Database (Fig. 1) (http://kos.aahvs.duke. edu/), freely accessible online since October 2016, is an attempt to respond to this question by collecting visual documents (drawings, paintings, pho- tographs, prints…) that illustrate the appearance of, and changes to, the medieval monuments of South Italy (roughly 10th-15th centuries) (Bruzelius 2016; Bruzelius, Vitolo 2016; Vitolo 2017a, 20107b).

Saint Jude Tadeo?, Saint Matías ? or Saint Thomas ? AN APOSTLE BY LUIS TRISTÁN: RELATIONSHIP WITH EL GRECO, RIBERA, VELAZQUEZ AND THE NEW ITALIAN NATURALISTIC CURRENTS. The work we are studying represents an apostle in all his splendour and monumentality, whose iconographic identification is doubtful since the only attribute appearing is the halberd which is common to various apostles. Saint Matthews, creator of the first Gospel and Saint Jude Tadeo, also represented by El Greco with a halberd, are the most probable; San Matías is less probable due to having been martirized with an axe; and Saint Thomas, although the attribute does not correspond, since he died pierced by a lance, also could be the apostle represented due to his close relationship to the composition with the Saint Thomas of the Apostles by El Greco (El Greco Museum, Toledo) and the Saint Thomas by Velazquez (Orleans Museum). The painter certainly did not wish to centre his attention on an individualized identification of the saint, but rather on his general symbology as apostle: the halberd or lance with regard to his martyrdom as a form of death, the heavy tunic, with imposing folds, referring to his mighty task of spreading the Gospel continuously for the Church and the strong expression on his face in allusion to his tenacious character and indomitable conviction needed to accomplish his mission. The work can be attributed to the best work of Luis Tristán, and due to its quality may be considered a masterpiece carried out just on his return from his journey to Italy, in about 1613 when his spirit was still teeming excitedly with the ideas gathered in El Greco’s workshop and his contact with the modern Roman naturalistic currents shared with the young José Ribera.

Tortorici Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra, Università di Catania, Italy Abstract The geology of the Catania urban area (Eastern Sicily) is the result of three combined processes related to the Late Quaternary sea-level changes, the volcanic and tectonic processes and finally to human activity. The backbone of the urban area is represented by a flight of marine terraces carved on a sedimentary substratum. This is made up of a Lower-Middle Pleistocene succession of marly clays, up to 600 m thick, upwardly evolving to some tens of metres of coastal sands and fluvial-deltaic conglomerates, referred to as the Middle Pleistocene. The unconformably overlying terraced deposits, of both coastal alluvial and marine origin, are characterized by several metres of thick sands, conglomerates and silty clays. They rest on abrasion platforms distributed at different elevations dating to the sea level high-stands between 200 and 40 kyr. These indicate a strong uplift of the area which can be explained as the effect of the deformation at the footwall of the NNW-SSE trending active normal fault system located at the south-eastern lower slope of Mt. Etna that extends offshore into the Ionian sea. The sedimentary substratum is dissected by deeply entrenched valleys filled with thick lava flows, which represent most of the rocks cropping out in the city. Era il 30 luglio del 1858 e s'inaugurava l’Orto botanico dell’Università voluto da Tornabene Roccaforte, benedettino docente di botanica dell’Università di Catania e ampliato due anni dopo con un’area destinata alla coltivazione delle specie spontanee, grazie ad una donazione del catanese Mario Coltraro. Poi la città raggiunse così rapidamente l’impianto che non fu possibile alcun’altra espansione. L’edificio porticato in stile neoclassico opera dell’architetto Distefano occupa il centro dell’area. L’Orto Generale di tredici piccole serre, una delle quali contiene le piante grasse della collezione del dr Gasperini; una serra caldo-umida per la riproduzione delle palme, una cinquantina di specie, e per la coltura di piante esotiche; tre vasche circolari per la coltivazione di piante acquatiche. Vi era anche una grande serra, detta Tepidario che fu demolita in seguito ai danni subiti durante l’ultimo conflitto mondiale. L’Orto Siculo di mq. 3.000 realizzato verso il 1887, ha esemplari provenienti da tutta l’Isola e specie esotiche da lungo tempo coltivate in Sicilia.
