RECOMMENDATIONS:

A. That the City Council designate the unnumbered location situated one sidewalk square southerly of and between numbered locations 291 and 30j as shown on Sheet 18 of Plan D-13788 for the Hollywood Walk ofFame for the installation ofthe name of Alan Menken at 6834 Hollywood Boulevard.

B. Inform the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce ofthe Council's action on this matter.

C. That this report be adopted prior to the date of the ceremony on November 10,2010.

FISCAL IMPACT STATEMENT:

No General Fund Impact. All cost paid by permittee.

DISCUSSION:

The Walk ofFame Committee of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has submitted a request for insertion into the Hollywood Walk of Fame the name of Alan Menken. The ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 11:30 a.m.

The communicant's request is in accordance with City Council action of October 18, 1978, under Council File No. 78-3949. Following the Council's action of approval, and upon proper application and payment of the required fee, an installation permit can be secured at 201 N. Figueroa Street, 11 3rd Floor, Counter 23 •

ALAN MENKEN - (Category -MOTION PICTURES) Requested star location to be 6834 Hollywood Blvd., south side of the street next to the El Capitan Theatre. The star for ALAN MENKEN will be located in the second row. The stars nearest to Menken's in the original row are George Gobel (29J) to the East and Buddy Hackett (30j) to the West. According to sheet #18 plan 13788, ALAN MENKEN'S star has no designated number. The ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, November 10,2010 at 11:30 a.m.

ALAN MENKEN (Composer) has composed the musical scores for the following stage productions: "God Bless You Mr. Rosewater," "Atina: Evil Queen of the Galaxy," "Little Shop of Horrors," "The Dream on Royal Street," "Kicks: The Showgirl Musical," "The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz," "Beauty and the Beast," "A Christmas Carol," "Weird Romance," "King David," "Der Glockner von Notre Dame" and "The Little Mermaid." He composed both music and lyrics for "Real Life Funnies" and "Patch Patch Patch." Musical revues he has contributed songs to include "Personals, Diamonds" and "It's Better with a Band." Walk of Fame: Chairman John Pavlik recommended the follmving stars for inclusion into the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
