THE WORLD PREMIERE CONCERT FILM of F*CK7THGRADE BEGINS STREAMING on JANUARY 25Th Singer/Songwriter Jill Sobule Shares Her Rock & Roll Life Story on Screen
CONTACT: Nikki Battestilli Marketing Director [email protected] CityTheatreCompany.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THE WORLD PREMIERE CONCERT FILM OF F*CK7THGRADE BEGINS STREAMING ON JANUARY 25th Singer/Songwriter Jill Sobule Shares Her Rock & Roll Life Story On Screen Performers: Jill Sobule, Kristen Henderson, Sarah Siplak, and Julie Wolf Pittsburgh, PA (January 10, 2021): As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to prevent a safe return to indoor performances, City Theatre is excited to announce the world premiere concert film of F*ck7thGrade. F*ck7thGrade began its journey at City Theatre three years ago when Associate Artistic Director and dramaturg Clare Drobot met singer/songwriter Jill Sobule in New York. City Theatre paired Ms. Sobule with playwright Liza Birkenmeier, who wrote the book for the show, and workshopped and presented what would become F*ck7thGrade in the theater’s 2018 Momentum Festival of New Plays. After adding OBIE Award-winning director Lisa Peterson and music director Julie Wolf to the creative team, the show was further developed at the Colorado New Play Festival in Steamboat Springs and at Actor’s Express in Atlanta, supported by the National New Play Network. The world premiere production was slated as the final show of City Theatre’s 2019/20 season when the Covid-19 pandemic stopped live performances across the country. The team at City Theatre created an outdoor, drive-in venue at Hazelwood Green and staged the concert version of the show over three nights in front of an invited audience. Videographers Mickey and Molly Miller of Human Habits captured the show live and served as editors, working closely with the directors, sound engineer Brad Peterson, and City Theatre’s artistic staff to create this theatrical, multi-camera concert film. -
Sugarland Sugarland
NOVEMBER 2010 ISSUE MMUSICMAG.COM ’80s pop culture like John Hughes’ fi lms and U2’s cinematic sound during that era. “We were teenagers then, and a lot of the pop culture was about archetypes of what it was like to be that age,” Bush says. “And that’s what really inspired us to become musicians. A lot of the songs came from conversations about that.” While the powerful, anthemic sound of The Incredible Machine won’t surprise anyone who knows its origins, it might shock country fans used to more down-home sounds. But reinvention is almost as much part of Sugarland’s identity as any one genre. The group grew out of the Atlanta singer-songwriter scene but found immediate success in mainstream country music with its 2004 multiplatinum debut, Twice the Speed of Life. “We’ve turned over a whole lot of new leaves since starting this Stewart Volland band,” says Bush. The trio became a duo when founding member Kristen Hall abruptly Jennifer Nettles, Kristian Bush quit while Sugarland was still riding high on the first album’s success, and some wondered if the shift would upset the group’s unique chemistry.chemistry. But SUGARLANDSUGARLAND NeNettlesttles and Bush made the transitiontransition The country duo turns over another new leaf seamlessly,l l andd subsequent b albumslb haveh proved so successful that they’re now with its new album’s arena-rocking sound headlining arena tours—which comes with its own challenges. IF SUGARLAND’S NEW ALBUM, The result, “Wide Open,” appeared “Our touring and writing cycles have to The Incredible Machine, sounds grand on AT&T’s digitally released Team USA happen at the same time, and that changes and full of ambition, that’s because its Soundtrack, and served as the jumping-off the process a little,” Bush says. -

Golden Gate Grooves
THE GOLDEN GATE BLUES SOCIETY NEWSLETTER Issue 6, July 2010 GOLDEN GATE GROOVES FROM THE EDITOR Deb Lubin The period since the last newsletter was published was very busy, with planning for upcoming blues society events, going out to hear our favorite local blues bands, and our annual pilgrimage to Memphis in May for the Blues Music Awards. The BMAs are a wonderful event that all blues lovers should attend at least once. This year in Memphis, we got to see many of our favorite musicians from the Bay Area, among them Rick Estrin and the Nightcats, including Kid Andersen; the entire Tommy Castro Band, which took home several awards; Laura Chavez and Kennan Shaw from Candye Kane's band; Maria Muldaur, and others with Bay Area ties. I had so much fun reconnecting with old friends both on and off the stage. Meanwhile, the GGBS is rolling. We're getting ready for several big events that we're either sponsoring, partnering with, or supporting, including the 5th annual Redwood City Blues Festival in July, the first U.S. events of the European-based charity United by Music , the San Jose Jazz Festival in August, and events to select a member band to compete in the Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis in February 2011, among others. Please look for information about all of these events in this issue of the newsletter. In addition, East Bay musician/cat lover/pre-war blues specialist Joel Fritz reviews four CDs by local bands. SF-based singer Cathy Lemons reviews E.C. -

This Week the Beatles Anthology, Coming Soon to a TV Set Near You, Is Unlikely to Unleash a New Wave of Beatlemania
E IN RADIO OCTOBER 2 This Week The Beatles Anthology, coming soon to a TV set near you, is unlikely to unleash a new wave of Beatlemania. But for :hose of us old and lucky enough to have been caught up in that British Invasion of '64, it'll be a nice revisit to those times, espec ally with Capitol's release of the first two of six CDs of Beatles rari- ties. For those who missed out on the Beatles in their prime, this is their best shot at the full story. And for the companies involved in the production- Apple Corps, Inc., ABC-TV, and Capitol/EMI-it's a big -backs bonanza. They are taking no chances, how- ever. As we report inside, the total cost of the market- ing of Anthology will be around $20 million. Our package, put together by our managing editor, Ben Fong -Torres, gives you a head start on all the hype, and includes revisits with Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Yoko Ono; with Top 40 at the height of the craziness, and with Dave Rothstein, a Gavin staffer who's not ashamed that, at 40 -something, he's still a Beatlemaniac. In News, Danny Goldberg (top) takes the helm at Mercury Records. Pearl Jam tops a poll of music executives; Entertairment Weekly offers its own power poll, and music loses Blind Melon's Shannon Hoon (mid- dle). In Rap, we remember hip - `THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY' hop activist Funken-Klein. an the GO Chart, Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories, Melissa Etheridge (bot- BRINGS THE FAB FOUR BACK..
