Its output made available to all stations could include a website, Vice President Kyle Anderson a radio program, daily newscasts and a daily newsletter. Combined, the Secretary/Treasurer Mac Joseph three anchor stations have approximately 50 news staffers. Tan populars i abundants foren els integrants de la família dels Bach que desenvoluparen aquesta tasca, que així anomenaren a aquesta feina encara que no fos un Bach el que la realitzàs. La família de la qual provenia Johann Sebastian Bach 1685-1750, fou una saga de músics que va dominar l’art de la composició i la interpretació al barroc i part del classicisme. Podem contabilitzar uns 70 membres de la família dedicats a la música amb una més que raonable notorietat. For the first time ever, we bring the Festival to the centre of Manchester, with concerts taking place in Manchester Cathedral and St Ann’s Church, religious buildings akin to those in which Bach’s music itself would have first been heard. Bach’s The Art of Fugue, 90 minutes of exquisite music based on just one four-bar theme, is at the very heart of this year’s Festival. Its multiple fugues and canons appear throughout the weekend in new arrangements by RNCM composers, showcasing chamber music in all its forms, with striking combinations featuring strings, wind, brass, and chamber choir. We present all six Brandenburg Concertos in the daytime concerts, performed by RNCM students alongside guests from the Gould Piano Trio, the Talich Quartet, tutors from the RNCM and Chetham’s School of Music, and the RNCM Junior Fellows in Chamber Music, the Sitkovetsky Piano Trio. We feature music by Bach’s extended family of composers, and in particular, Johann Sebastian’s son, CPE Bach, in this his 300th anniversary year. The programme also includes two sacred choral works as part of services at Manchester Cathedral, featuring the Cathedral Choir alongside RNCM musicians. We also warmly welcome musicians from Chetham’s, St Mary’s Music School, the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and Junior RNCM.

Central to Goehr’s thesis was her assertion that J.S. Bach ‘did not compose works.’ However, a significant number of texts by seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Lutheran German musicians and theorists explicitly depict composition as an act of working. For example, in Bach’s defence against the criticisms of Johann Adolph Scheibe, the Leipzig rhetorician Johann Abraham Birnbaum described how ‘the more industriously and painstakingly [the composer] works at the improvement of Nature — the more brilliantly shines the beauty thus brought into being.’ And the reception of Bach’s music in our own time is still inextricably bound up with the notion of work.
