Established in 1948 by Sydney cope, the name Skopes is inextricably linked with Leeds, once a global powerhouse of menswear manufacturing throughout much of the 20th century.

From humble beginnings it was Sydney’s attention to Current M.D. Simon cope, at the helm for over 20 years detail that enabled his small factory on meanwood continues to uphold the family values of his father & road to thrive & prosper. 5 L eeds art gallery

- tailored masterpieces -

B ased in Leeds cultural quarter, Leeds art gallery holds collections of national importance & was opened on 3rd October 1888 paid for by public subscription in honour of queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887.

Grade 11 listed, a major renovation was completed in June 2007 including the magnificent Victorian tiled hall.

The gallery contains works from well known artists from our region such as Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth & Jacob Kramer as well as works by contemporary artists.

The gallery has bought many important sculptures in a collection that is second only to that of the Tate.

Filled with natural light, the gallery provided a superb environment to introduce our premium, 24 7 mode collection.

29 The Corn Exchange

- engineered fabrics -

B y 1851 Leeds booming textiles industry employed 34% of the workforce with only 1.3% in agriculture. the council agreed to build a new Corn Exchange & a competition was won by Cuthbert Broderick with his design based on the HalLe Au Blue in Paris & completed in 1864.

Just one of three remaining in the country it is one of the finest examples of Victorian commercial architecture with the great elliptical dome a masterpiece of engineering.

A great example of a structure able to adapt, the exchange is now an upmarket independent fashion outlet having previously been used to house alternative fashion & vintage shops.

It is often called the Covent Garden of the North & helped spark Leeds modern renaissance as a major capital for culture & shopping.

- revitalised style -

B uilt in 1843, located on the rivers Aire & Calder navigation, Leeds Dock was once a vast nerve centre that provided a vital cross Pennine link from Liverpool to the north sea. Busy offloading coal & goods from the barges that plied their trade across the Leeds-Liverpool canal with many a bale of cloth from the mills of West Yorkshire finding their way to the thousands of garment factories in Leeds.

The advent of rail & road saw the decline of Leeds Dock which eventually closed in 1990. Now known as new dock after a £250m redevelopment & home to the world class Royal Armouries Museum it is a vibrant mix of office, retail, art galleries, restaurants & cafes as well as a large residential population in waterside apartments.

The glass dome is the breathtaking centrepiece of trinity east containing 1902 glass panels & is large enough to fit Leeds Corn Exchange underneath!

Fronting Leeds Briggate where hundreds of merchants would once have gathered to sell cloth from trestle tables, the centre was formally a collection of streets & arcades that were once home to menswear manufacturing giants of Leeds, burtons (who employed over 10,000 in Leeds factories), Hepworth’s & John Collier who all had retail shops here.

The Equis Altus, a sculpture of a packhorse carrying a roll of cloth dominates the centre court & the statue, Briggate Minerva stands outside the centre entrance, both serving as reminders of the great history of Leeds as a wool & textile global centre.
