Early Guiders adapted the official suggested to local needs, creating a variety of uniforms in the early years.

The Scheme for Girl Guides (1909) outlined the following for Officers: • Ordinary country walking • Dark Blue () • White Shoulder Knot • White Lanyard with whistle • Walking Stick

Alternatives were added in 1910 and 1911: • Navy Blue ankle -length walking dress (1910) • , Navy Blue, with plume of cock’s feathers (1910) • Gloves, Brown leather, Gauntlet (1910) • , Navy Blue (1911) • , Navy, with stand -up collar (1911) • , Navy Blue, ankle -length (1911)

The first Handbook, How Girls Can Help to Build Up the Empire (1912) stated “Officers' dress should be plain, nothing conspicuous” , and suggested the following: • Ordinary walking dress • Hat, Navy Blue, with plume of cock’s feathers • Gloves, Brown leather, Gauntlet • White Lanyard with Bos’n’s Whistle • Walking Stick

The Canadian Uniform appears to have been predominantly white form 1915 to 1920: • Navy Blue Hat, broad -brimmed • Shirtwaist or Middy, White • White walking skirt, ankle length • White Neck Tie • Coloured Lanyard with whistle, colour as for Position

By 1920, Guiders were once again wearing a navy uniform. This is described in the September 29, 1920 issue of The Globe & Mail as “new Guide uniform of navy blue broadcloth,  dark blue felt hat” it also indicates “the very smart navy blue uniform of the English Guides, with its brown leather , a regulation dress that found instant favour with the Canadian Guides when ... Lady Baden - Powell, appeared in it here last year” -

The adult uniform became navy again and was fairly standardized from 1920 onwards. Some items could only be worn by Guiders, not Commissioners. Stylistic changes were made to the uniform 1941. Sea Ranger Guiders wore the same uniform as other Guiders, however, they had different options for Summer and Boating activities.

A new uniform for Adults was introduced in 2004. Changes were made to the Adult Uniform in 2009, removing many of the options.
