To all returning players, members and new comers welcome to the 2013 season and also our visitors.

This season has brought its challenges with coaches departing and the drought. To all involved in this process, I thank you all for the hours spent and the battles fought.

On the high side we have Hoani Edwards and Nathan Christie in charge of the premier team. We wish them the best and thank them for the effort they have put in with the late season appointment. Welcome back Adrian Stewart as manager of the team.

We welcome Central United to our ground today. They will know that they have been to Memorial Park. Enjoy the support our club has.

To control board, senior, youth and junior committees, thank you for your efforts to this point, well done.

To the people that enjoyed the Club Annual Breakfast, please pass on to others so next year can be bigger and better. See you all around the park and in the stand.

To the retiring President Alex Ogilvy, thank you very much for your many years of dedicated support.

To the Premier Team, good luck and enjoy today’s game.

Obituary

Before kick off today, we will be observing a minutes silence in memory of Jane Farrelly, beloved wife and mother of Ian, Ben and Nick. Jane was tragically taken from her family in a cycling accident in Taupo on 16 March.

Jane was an active member of our community serving on the James Cook High School Board of Trustees, Manukau Veterans Cycling Club just to name a few.

Ian, Ben and Nick have been active members of our club over the past several years.

Jane will be sadly missed by her family, friends and the wider community. Reserve Coaches Comments

Welcome to all new and existing club members for the 2013 season. This year is going to be an interesting challenge as Anja and myself progress into this new role into senior management after having spent 3 years looking after the under 19s. I would like to welcome Gordon Craig back into the club and jumping on board to give us a hand as we learn the ropes of coaching at this level. As we look to try to build a competitive squad for the season, we are also trying to blood some younger players into the reserves to give them the experience needed to compete at this level and to build some depth between the first team and the reserves to make us a really competitive club at this level. I wish everybody all the best for the new season and look forward to the challenges ahead.

This takes on a slightly new meaning this year as we bring in a new coaching staff of Hoani Edwards and myself, and no less than 15 new players to the club to fill spots vacated from last season. The goal however remains the same, retain Manurewa’s place in the Northern League Premier Division.

Thanks to all the Manurewa supporters, you are one helluva vocal bunch and we’re going to need everyone’s voice behind us this season. Thanks as well to our Sponsors Lotto for the support. Final big thanks to the club and the manager, Adrian, for all the time and effort put in behind the scenes to allow the squad to concentrate solely on the football and give us the best chance of success.

As opposed to previous years, the squad is really young this season. It is littered with proven premier league players and promising young players from the area. The mix of experience and youth bodes well for the season ahead as well as seasons to come.

Hoani has pushed the guys hard in preseason as he preaches his brand of fitness and football. Things have begun to come together with a high quality first team squad who has gone unbeaten in preseason against some tricky opposition, culminating in a good 3-1 win against Kevin Fallon’s Eastern Suburbs side last game time out.

Welcome to Central United today. They are always there or there abouts at the end of the season, and even without their full complement of summer league players back, will be a tough opposition for our boys. Three points today is crucial to kick-starting our season and breeding a winning cul- ture to take us through the rest of the season.

Here’s to a great season ahead.

Cheers, Nathan

Hoani Edwards in action Senior Report

Hi all

Welcome to the 2013 season. Hope everyone has had a nice summer and are getting ready for another footy season this year.

This year we welcome all the new players to the club. To H and the boys have a good season. To Gordon and Steve good luck this year with the reserves and Gordon welcome back.

Our Assyrian star side from last year have moved up a division into the AFF champion- ship league and speaking with Ash the boys and himself re looking forward to this year as the league they are playing is another big step up from last year. The league they are in contains club sides that are the 3rd side in the club. This week they are playing Central.

A new side this year but not new players as Duncan is taking our Division 3 side which contains some boys that were in our U19s from last year and some other senior players that are hoping to push for a spot into the reserves if they get a few injuries.

This years U19s side have a new coach as Steve as stepped up into the reserves with Gor- don. So Brian has stepped up this year with most of the U17s he coached last year and a couple that have come to the club. These players also should be looking at improving there game and in The future trying to push for the reserves or even the first team.

Our over 30s side are this year stepping up a league into the first division for the 30s as they won there league last year. They have lost a few players from last year but have gained a couple and the players know that this year will be a big step up in the quality of the opposition.

Not to be a Grinch but those players that haven't paid fees in full do so ASAP. Otherwise you can't be in the club draw.

Thanks and have a good season and if you have any questions come and ask me.

Cheers Gigsy Ladies Report

The ladies have had a strong start to the season with plenty of fresh new faces getting stuck into fitness and skills work. We've lost a couple of players this year and wish Brooke all the best with the up and coming arrival of a much awaited little girl. Nana we hope you recover quickly! We want you back, cheer leading each Sunday is expected! Christina get those wedding plans moving along and we can't wait to see the photos! Beckie expect to be called in when we're short and Trish don't party too hard at uni down in the Waikato! Coach Brody...... don't be a stranger. One of our biggest losses is Fionna, our goalie, out with an injury (thanks Clendon), big big shoes to fill, let's hope the team steps up!

Welcome to Kerri, Brenner, Caitlyn, Michelle and Shannon! We're excited to have you onboard. Hopefully Lisa and Angela will soon be convinced to join the ranks!

Our pre-season game against Huntly went well with a 2-2 draw. There was flashes of brilliance and triangle passing, hopefully we start to see this more often. New comers Brenner and Caitlyn held the team together in the midfield showing their skills and pace in the midfield. I'm hoping their calmness under pressure and the time they take to look before passing the ball will rub off on all others!

We're looking forward to our social on the 4th of May. Make sure you get amongst it! Get along to your local 'thrift' shop and bag yourself a bargain to wear on the night!

Our first game is tomorrow away at Bay Olympic. We've had success against them in the past and hope that it continues tomorrow! Thanks to the committee and everyone that's put all the effort into getting our season under way! Good luck to all teams this weekend.

Stevie Youth Report

Welcome to all our new players and their families and to our returning players and families.

This year on our committee we have Paul Hill who rejoins our committee, Ang Shutkowski and Trevor Bright who have come up to Youth from Juniors and finally Tutana Dickson who has returned to committee duties. You will find their details on the Youth page of the club website if you need to contact them.

Our numbers this year have increased slightly from 2012. We now have 19 teams in the youth section of the club. Big welcome to our 11th grade teams—their first season in youth football. It is great to see an additional all girls team this season.

With our summer being very long and dry, it has already caused a disruption to trainings with the council preventing ground usage to get some remedial work done. We hope that this will not continue for long and we are endeavouring to do our best to get all teams onto a training area.

To all teams across the club, have a great and enjoyable season.

We wish the Hoani, Nathan and the Premier team all the best for the season.

Laurette Hummels Youth Chairperson

Reminder: The Youth Section has prize giving for all Youth Players of the Day at 5pm each Saturday. This is followed by a Youth Draw for a $15 non alcoholic bar tab. Any youth player at the clubrooms at this time is eligible to enter. Be there at 4.50pm to register.

Junior Report

With over 200 players in 22 teams across 6 grades, there is lot of excitement for the coming season.

Today saw all the 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th teams playing at home in an in-house programme as part of the annual MAFC Club Breakfast activities. These grades will be back at Bruce Pulman Park from next week where they take part in a Small Whites cluster with Papakura, Drury & Clendon.

9th & 10th also started their session today with home & away games across Auckland. With the late finish of cricket and the early start of football this year, it has been a bit of a scramble to sort all the bits and bobs, but hopefully its all down hill from here.

Thank you to all the parents who have put their hands up to help train / manage teams, without your help, our children would not be having fun out on the field.

If any parents and interested in joining the Junior committee, please see the notice board for contact details.
