Manurewa AFC Club Rooms P.O. Box 75 122 War Memorial Park Manurewa Gibbs Rd Auckland Manurewa Phone: (09) 267 1120 www.manurewaafc.org.nz Welcome to the first home game of the season at Memorial Park.

The top two sides started last week with a loss to for our Premier side—they now know what's needed. Well done to the Reserves for their first win.

This week we welcome Birkenhead's two top sides and look forward to hosting them at the park today.

Today we see the changes our club administration has been working on with the return to the club of our small whites who have been based at Pullman Park Papakura for the last few years as part of the whole of football plan. To Kieran and Todd thanks for your efforts in making this happen. It's now the clubs responsibility to make it work.

On the other side we start the season with a club breakfast which is quite fitting as we welcome on board the Wiri Licencing Trust as the clubs first team sponsor for the 2017 season. Although they are long time supporters of the club, it is great to see them become sponsors again. We look forward to a long term arrangement which benefits both The Trust, Club and the community.

Today with our Premier and Reserve team players here please take the time to have a chat and get to know them. Also coaches introduce them to your team members. This year the players have committed to getting to know you all from the youngest to you more senior players.

See you at the games today.

Reserve Coaches Comments

Welcome to Birkenhead today and all the best to both your reserves and prems.

Last week was the start of an exciting year ahead for both our reserves squad. With a lot of new faces and younger players moving up from SAE academy, the start of the year has been all about setting our standards and getting to understand how and what is required from our young players.

We had a good start to the season against Bay Olympic and happy to start off with a win and a good performance. Congrats to Benny for getting on the score sheet, well done to Jamie for being my man of the match, and also to all the players who played their first game for Manurewa.

Our aim this year is to play an energetic and entertaining brand of football so that people want to come and watch us. You will also see some young players make their debuts into senior football, with 5 SAE 2002 born players already getting a taste of this during pre season.

All the best to all other teams having their first game of the season and go Rewa!

Cheers. Marty

First Team Coaches Comments

After earning promotion to the premier league in the last game of the season last year, we now face as tough a challenge football-wise than most of out players will experience, staying up in the division this season.

It is the clear goal of the club to not only remain in the premier league, but remain here for as long as possible.

Having retained many of the key players from last year, we also welcome in some new ones. I hope all the supporters get behind them and show the support Manurewa has been known for in the past.

We had a solid pre-season, with some good results, but more important- ly, some flashes of quality and potential from the boys that will need to last 90 minutes each week if we wsnt to be competitive.

It is a big step up for most of the players, and we need to adjust as quickly as possible to be able to get results.

Last week's result against Bay Olympic showed we were more than capable of matching it with the teams at this level, and would have been a different result had it not been for a couple of mistakes, mistakes that we were able to get away with last year, and unfortunately we wont have that luxury this season.

Birkenhead arrive having established themselves as one of the top club sides in the country and an NRFL Premier League title contender year in year out. If we want to remain in this league, we need to prove ourselves against the best, and there's no better chance to do that this today.

Today we welcome Birkenhead who won the last year.

Last week the first team played Bay Olympic , going down 4-2, with goals coming from signing Luke and Sander. The reserves won 1-0 with a new look team and a lot of new faces. Coach Marty has done a great job getting these young boys ready for senior football.

The rest of out senior teams KO their season today. Good luck to all teams and hope everyone has a wonderful season.

{Strength & Honor}

Youth Report Welcome to another season here at Memorial Park. Special welcome to families new to the club.

This season we have 17 youth teams in total, one being an all girls team. Our season starts today (weather permitting—at time of writing this the weather was not great!) We wish all teams good luck for the season ahead.

Introducing your youth committee for 2017—returning members are Ang Shutkowski, Brenda Gadsdon, Megan Proffitt and myself. New members are Octavia Jacobs and Wayne Jensen. Thanks to you all for your on going support.

All the best to all Manurewa teams today.

Laurette Hummels Youth Chairperson

The start of the season has, as always, been very busy time as teams are compiled, uniform issued, gear is sorted…. February registrations catch out a lot of parents, even the returning ones, as it seems too soon and “summer hasn’t finished” resulting in many to “do it later”. We try our best to reshuffle and squeeze late registrations but unfortunately, at some point, there is just no more room and it is quite sad for any child to miss out on the great experience that is our football season. Other challenges faced each year include having the council contractors mark out our 7 fields as they are only given 1 week between the summer and winter sports to mark hundreds of fields for all winter codes around the Auckland area, and this year we were informed just last Monday that only the number 1 fields at each park will be done for this Saturdays games, which may result in some postponement of Junior and Youth games, from 9th grade up. Not wanting anyone to miss out, the Control Board has purchased a small line marking machine which will be used if our fields do get missed…just hope the weather holds out. The Junior teams this year include 5th Flash 5th Infinity 6th Bear 6th Lions 6th Kickers 7th Eagles 7th Gators 7th Hawks 7th Panthers 8th Avengers 8th Legends 8th Yellow Fever 8th Blue Bombers 9th Cyclones 9th Hurricanes 9th Tornados 10th Jaguars 10th Leopards 10th Griffins And last, but not least, 10th Falcons which is an all-girls team.

Hopefully all teams got a chance to get their boots dirty today and have a great time on the field this season,

Junior Committee
