I missed last week’s game against Birkenhead but kept in touch by the marvels of texting and phone calls. By all accounts a great improvement. Please to see we were able to hold for 50 minutes. We will have to continue this form against today’s opponents Onehunga Sports who come to us with 2 wins a draw and one loss. Lets hope with the support from the grandstand we can bring in our first points. To Gordon, Steve and Anja keep up the good work with the reserve team. Great to see the improvement and results your team is achieving after the struggle of the last few years. To the ladies team I am looking forward to tonight’s social. Those of you who haven’t got tickets, ask the ladies. The socials are very memorable. The club raffle is our main means of fundraising. It will be out shortly. Look out for the tickets. Again this year we have great support from our sponsors and our members working to make it happen. Top prize is a 60 inch television. See you on the sideline. Come and have a chat. I’m always willing to listen and chew over any new ideas for improvement. To all other club players and members young and old, enjoy your day. Be there for the club draw. Cheers

Hi and welcome to all Onehunga Sports players and supporters.

This is going to be a crucial match for us if we are to stay with the frontrunners of the competition and with them being just below us but on the same number of points, we need to make sure we can take the three points today.

Funnily enough, this is what I told the players before last weekends game against Birkenhead and we forgot to show up, especially in the first half. Even though we went into half time 1-0 down, we had the favoured conditions in the second half and could have expected to get back into the game. This wasn't to be the case as Birkenhead proceeded to put in another 3 goals and it wasn't until the 85th and 89th minute where we managed to put 2 past former Manurewa goalkeeper Louie Caunter finishing the game 4-2 down. Louie did make 2 outstanding saves to keep us out of the game earlier.

Overall, it was a lacklustre performance by our side and Birkenhead did deserve the 3 points. We will really need to step it up today if we want to have a chance at finishing near the top of the league.

Good luck to all Manurewa sides this weekend and especially to the first team as they seek to get their first points of the season.

Today we welcome Onehunga Sports to Memorial Park. They have had an encouraging start to the season and find themselves in a top four spot coming into this weekends round of matches. Our lads will have to be prepared to fight and battle for every ball if we are to get anything from this match.

Our last two matches have seen us suffer two poor losses. The 7-0 loss to Three Kings on our home ground is totally unacceptable. Our last match away to Birkenhead saw our best 45 minutes of the season. But again going down to 10 men we fell off the pace and conceded sloppy goals in the second half. We need to stop using the excuses of having an inexperienced young squad and show a little more desperation and intelligence if we are to turn around our season and start picking up points.

We need to put in a good shift today to put these performances behind us and redeem a little bit of pride. The squad appreciates the support that we are receiving from our loyal club members and today we hope to put in a performance that befits this support.

Cheers H and Nath

Hi

This year so far has been a struggle for our senior sides and this has to do with the step up in leagues each team are playing in but in saying that last weekends results show that some teams are on the improve.

Our Assyrian star side got there first win last week and it was a good one with a 7-0 win over Mangere and speaking to Ash he was a much happier manager than the week before when they went down to Western Springs 4-2 in the wet, which Ash puts down to the loss as the his boys couldn't pass a ball with 2 inch's of water on the pitch. This week they have a local derby against Papatoetoe.

The Div 3 side are yet to win a game but considering they have only been together for 5 weeks things are slowly coming together. Last week they had a 4-2 loss to Western Springs. If the boys can stop leaking goals they have the strike power to score goals. This week they have a bye.

The over 30s are also yet to win but if anything is go by there last game where they lost 4-2 but had at least 6 good chances to score the boys are looking forward to this weeks game against Ellerslie. The boys just need to get there shots on target and be a bit more tight in defence and there results will come. Last week they had a bye to rest there old joints and body.

Our under 19s have had 2 losses in the last 2 weeks but Brian was happy with the boys even though they lost there was patches in both games that gave him plenty to be encouraged about. If they can do a 90 min performance the results will come as well. This week they play Waitakere City and they will be looking for a win as they haven't won a game.

On some good news we now have a div 9 side. So that means that the numbers that have come in to the club late will be playing some football it will be a mixture of some U19s and senior players and if you would like to play either let Andy or myself know of your interest.

Cheers Gigsy

P.S Please get those FEES payed.

Ladies Report

Since our last programme the ladies have had two games, one against Onehunga Mangere and the other against one of our divisions two Clendon sides.

I was away for the O.M game (dying at a half marathon course in Orewa) and I owe a huge thanks to Karl Miers for stepping in and looking after the team. However he now has over me that the girls only win so far has come from his coaching! I hear the ladies played out of their skins, well done on that win ladies, hopefully there are more to come!

Last weekend's game was against our old mates Clendon which we knew was always going to be a hard physical game and it didn't disappoint. Unfortunately a few lazy feet caused some penalties in the box, combined with their fast paced strikers which cost us the game. Sarah took her chances when I put her upfront, so well done to Sarah for 2 cracking goals.

This weekend we have another Clendon side to play. If last year is anything to go by it will be another physical game, we will be out for revenge as this is the team that has cost us our keeper for this season. Unfortunately I would say quite a few of my ladies will be sporting hang overs from our thrift shop social tonight that I'm hoping you will all be attending. If you haven't got a ticket yet see of the ladies this afternoon or grab one at the door tonight.

Massive thanks again to Robynne for stepping in for our goalie, I know the girls really appreciate it and so do I!!

Good luck to Brody and the ressies as well as the first team and all other club sides.

Stevie Youth Report Hi Everyone

We return to games today after last weekend off for the School Holidays so I hope you had a great break.

With the season only 3 games old, we have 4 teams who have not lost a game with many others who have had 2 wins. Keep up the good work. Some of our youth teams are still looking for extra players so if you know of anyone who would be interested, please let us know.

With a few issues surrounding the Youth Player of the Day presentations and the Youth Draw over the past few weeks, we are trialling a new system for the month of May. Players of the Day and any Youth Player in the clubrooms, need to register with the Youth Committee next to the Junior Registration table between 2.30pm and 3pm. Our presentations and draw will be done directly after the Juniors.

Laurette Hummels Youth Chairperson

Hi everyone, First of all a warm welcome to everyone.

This is the first year for Aaron Lawrence, Yashneel Singh and myself coaching the U17s. Different from managing the senior team. We have a great bunch of guys. The team have played 3 games with a win to kick of the season and then 2 losses, but its a learning curve for all. Tomorrow we play Waitemata away. Looking forward to the fixture and to hopefully 3 points.

Also I would like to thank Mark Armstrong and Gordon Craig for helping us with trainings. As most of you know they are the best coaches the club have. Good luck to the 1st team and reserves.

Hornets 2013

It is a start of a new season which means new faces (some of which are included in our photos alas could not get one of everyone for this newsletter but next time) and new experiences for the 7th grade Hornets of Manurewa AFC. Martin is coaching and Kirsten is managing and the kids well they are having fun which is a big part of any sport. After all if you don't have fun why do it? Seeing the team embrace the beautiful game and get so excited about scoring a goal or for some of our players preventing the other team a goal makes getting up for Saturday morning sport worthwhile. As for the kids well aside from playing, hanging out with team mates, and scoring there is nothing cooler than getting that awesome new blue player of the day trophy.

We are as a team are looking forward to a year of games, fun and some more fun with the Hornets, to learning new skills and working well as a team. Hoping to showcase the Hornets during a first team match at half time this season so keep an eye out for one of our many cool teams here at Manurewa AFC.
